3:21 Can we just appreciate how the traffic below is realistic in volume? All the newer Spider-Man games have a lesser amount of vehicular traffic obviously due to performance constraints, and the traffic in Spider-Man PS2 is most likely a moving texture / low poly objects, but the density of the traffic looks very nice
This game used to shit me up SO much. Times like fighting Shocker on the underground when the controller used to vibrate scared me to death. Was such a good game, found it pretty hard as a kid though

LOL! I used to have this game and a few others, on the PS2 without a memory card. I used to leave it on overnight and continue on the next day. Saving a few dollars to buy a memory card was a great feeling back then.

Still remember the oscorp mission. The lasers, drones and constant hiding was ultra stressful. To this day this is probably one of the hardest levels in any game I've played.

Actually, the third movie didn't flop. Spider-Man 4 was cancelled because of production problems, the major one being that Sam Raimi hated all of the scripts written for it. None of them seemed to fit what he was hoping for. And there were even plans to make a fifth and sixth one, and I believe a seventh too.

visual progress nowaday is still incredible just not as fast as ps1 to ps2. It became more and more hard to push further beyond the technology for games compared to early 2000

Jeeeeez, I literally played this game for YEARS. As a little kid, I would replay the same levels over and over and it would never get boring because I would approach it differently. Playing as green gobblin with infinite ammo cheats was fun as hell
With the utmost whimsical music playing in the background, Spider-Man is going after his uncle's murderer with the same kind of emotional passion one brings to a competitive game of Air Hockey.
I don't think my tear ducts can handle such powerful amounts of drama.

When I played the Oscorp Security levels (I was only 5-6 when I played the game in 2004 [MLG since birth :D]) I was fucking scared of the Oscorp security bots. When they spotted me I always panicked and paused the game. I hated to hear that music whenever you lost... Somehow I got past it once, and I never played the levels again.

This game was one of my childhood favourite memories, I used to love the "breaking and entering" level where you had to doge the security cameras or the alarm would sound, those robots that came out we scary to me. But I used to love them. I also loved those massive spiders!

If you actually played this game as a kid you would remember the cheat code that let you play as Mary Jane
Yes. Unfortunately the revisions Player's Choice, Platinum Hits, ect. variants disabled this code but I'm about to use Action Replay to test if there's any remnants of it left or if it's been completely removed from the code.
Tested it and it seems the code was completely removed, when trying to play as Spider-Man or skip the first cutscene the game crashes with the audio playing in the background, when playing as Green Goblin the game is surprisingly stable for whatever reason (game automatically skips anything Spider-Man related) but doesn't change anything unfortunately.

main thing i loved was the similaritys to the old ps1 spidy game, you still get the web fists web ball and web shield moves. was an awsome call back
The similarity was nice, but this wasn't designed to be a call back. It's just the old PS1 engine partially upgraded for the next generation of consoles, with the usual time restraints gimping the game's design. Because so many things were designed with the older consoles' limitations in mind, I found the game frustrating as hell to play when I first got it a couple months ago. I struggled finding Uncle Ben's killer because Spidey's combat wasn't upgraded much to be able to handle the higher enemy counts properly. Having all the same old animations and level design approaches, and the continued use of web cartridges just added to the disappointment.
I'm sure it was probably a lot of fun to play back in the day, especially if you were a big fan of the PS1/N64 Spider-Man games, but these days it just feels like crap, like I'm playing a broken version of those older games.
Southpaw I don't think it was spideys combat rang I just think you sucked at the game cause thAt parts one of the more easy parts to the game and you can use all of the attacks the yellow spiders are just there to show you the combos
I agree that I was out of practice since it was my first time playing an "old" Spider-Man game in so long, but that's the point of the beginning of a game, to ease you into its structure.
The main point I was trying to make was that the game was barely an upgrade from the previous versions, especially for making the jump to a new generation of consoles. It was mainly just the old engine with some new graphical capabilities and new features that weren't done properly.
The old fighting style worked on the old games because you only fought a couple of guys at one time, but throwing six brawlers and four men with guns caused me to take a lot of hits that I couldn't avoid. The fact that the enemies took a lot of damage before dropping slowed down the battles even more. Toss in every new feature being broken in some way, and the game was even less fun.
It's not fair to say that I suck at a game where my concern is in the design of the mechanics, not the level of skill needed to win. I beat the warehouse with some abuse, but it wasn't fun. Also, the combos are locked until you find them, as the manual and my playing experience revealed.

I don't know what it is, either it was 2002, me, or the design. Because when Spidey is swinging through the city in this game, New York felt WAY more dense and BIGGER than Spider-Man 2.
