  • In this video I give you a first look at the limited edition ‪@AtomPacks‬ Atom VX35..
    I was fortunate enough that ‪@easydexter‬ got me this pack out before they've actually been released to do the Cumbria Way..so again a massive thanks guys..
    The pack itself weighing in at around 580 grams is extremely light & packed with fantastic features..based on the Atom 30 & 40 litre packs its a non customisable pack with the main difference being the VX07 material the main body of the pack is constructed from..Its a frameless pack with a pack load of idealy no more than 9kg..
    ‪@AtomPacks‬ will be making a limited number of these packs this summer in red or blue..once sold no more will be made so if you want to get you're hands on one of these fantastic packs you better be on the ball when they go live..

      The hip belt on these atom packs rides along the sides of your body. The pockets actually get in the way of your arms and are very awkward, but the hip belt is more comfortable this way.

    Great review Andy, out of interest what torso size was the VX35 pack? My Atom+ 50L is a large torso length and I am considering a 30L Atom pack (also a large torso size) and I wondered if you sized down on this 35L pack from that of your Mo or whether torso size on this 35L was still like for like against your Mo pack? atb Andy

    I’ve only just found out that Dexter works for Atom? That’s cool, his videos are still an inspiration to me, I wish he would do some more!
    I have the VX20 version of this pack from 2021 and it is a perfect design. I’ve just started using the ZPacks Nero Ultra 38L (275g) to get my summer base weight ~6.5lb but despite being twice the price of what my Atom cost, it’s no where near as good. It has actually made my load far less comfortable and no matter how many times I’ve faffed around I still can’t organise my gear into it as well. I can see me still picking the Atom for everything other than simple one-nighter’s.
    Loving the work Andy, I’ve enjoyed a few of your Peak District overnight spots now. The favourite being Castles- coming up from Crowden it’s one of my favourite short walk-in’s to date 👍🏻.

    I just brought the Sierra designs flex capacitor 2023. It’s half the price and has hip belt pockets and shoulder strap pockets . I just couldn’t wait for an atom pack and didn’t want to pay £385 for a bag,

  • @Olan...
    @Olan... Год назад +2

    Good review Andy. I really like my Mo 50 but i would like to see the hip belts come with sewn on fitted pockets because the plastic clips often come undone / slip out of the webbing loops so i have had to use electrical tape to prevent that from happening which works fine and its not a big deal when i want to put the pockets on my other Atom Packs BUT sewn on pockets would not add to the weight at all because the clips wouldn't be necessary and the pocket would be slightly less material and that way it would give me that extra confidence when my phone, bank card and car keys etc are in them. It would also give a more professional and aesthetically pleasing look and finish to the belt instead of the current method which does fit and sit nicely . ALSO the tensioning straps on the belt could be single instead of double because they are a tad faffy and there is a lot of leftover strap. I know i sound very nit picky but i am and when i want the best i want the best and this could definitely be the best if the small issues were to be addressed.

    • @AndrewBeavers
      @AndrewBeavers  Год назад +1

      i do agree olan re the hipbelt pockets i had one of the little plastic clips break but i popped in to see dexter & he happily repaired it for me free of charge..its all opinion based with certain features on packs..there many packs ive had where straps or what ever ive thought are no good or not needed..a recent pack i had on test had many features which i gave feedback on which will be changed when its finally released..

    • @Olan...
      @Olan... Год назад

      @@AndrewBeavers That was very good of AP and they do provide a very good level of customer service that makes you feel valued. If they could even offer sewn on pockets as part of their design your own section that would be a great option. It's those little attention to detail things that people with experience look for and appreciate the most and i would imagine that the majority of APs customers fall into that category . I have the Arcteryx Bora 75 litre which i use in winter when i have to go out with all my 4 season gear and the Brain on that constantly unclips due to the flimsy clips that hold it on, the design is absolutely useless on that part. I wrote to them and explained how such a good pack is massively let down by a small thing that could easily be improved and they just thanked me for the email but didn't go into any depth or suggest a solution so i came up with my own which is just two metal key rings and it works fine now but i won't ever buy Arcteryx again simply because there are so many brands now that produce gear that is equal to if not better both functionally and quality wise at much cheaper prices with better colour choices and Arcteryx have gown that big and changed the focus on their target customer that its steering itself away from specialist gear and morphing into a street wear brand , well thats the impression i get. Its good to hear your views and opinions especially as you talk the talk and more importantly walk the walk and not just wing it after watching reviews by other people so well done and thanks a lot for your efforts :)

    Nice looking packs Andy👍🏻 I would definitely want a hip belt, and load lifters no matter the size of the pack, it's a shame atom packs won't customise it...I might have bought one for the Pennine way next year instead of the Rab aeon ultra 28 I've got at the moment. Thanks for the review, enjoy your night out, I look forward to seeing the video 😁

    Atom packs are decent, but they're certainly not good value for money (imo).
    If you look at Osprey or Sierra Designs, you'll get a better pack, for less money, have no lead time AND a hip belt + hip belt pockets etc.
    As a company; Atom packs have simply used scarcity as a selling point & used Andy Beavers & Paul Messner as salesmen.

    • @AndrewBeavers

      again as i keep saying all peoples opinions..yes osprey & sierra designs are more readily available with this & that as standard..all mass produced in a factory somewhere else in the world..atompacks are a british based cottage company with a small workforce producing mainly custom packs..

      Same here I like my Exos 58 way better for £150 new and not overpriced Atom which should be £250 max and not 400£ custom with all the pocket which you need to add as extra.

    • @AtomPacks
      @AtomPacks Год назад +5

      Hi Mark, thanks for checking out Andy's review. I assure you we don't use scarcity as marketing technique, if we could make more packs to meet demand we absolutely would. We are already making 30% more packs than this time last year and hopefully I will be able to say the same next year, but scaling takes time.
      We are a team of 10 handmaking everything in the lake district. If you order a pack with us it is custom made for you in your choice of size and colours. We will literally tell you who made it and you can come down to the workshop and have a chat with them, or get a repair if needed. It's a completely different experience to ordering mass made gear from Asia.
      Both have their plusses and minuses but it's like comparing apples to oranges.

      @@AtomPacks Thanks for the reply.
      I guess if there's a market for a more personalised experience when buying a back pack; you've cornered it & good luck to you.
      It doesn't make your packs good value or particularly better quality than others' (imo) & that's my overall point.
      Are you selling an experience or a good quality product at a reasonable price?
      It appears there's a market for both approaches.
