imagine if the pistons kept dantley...1989 thomas dumars dantley vinnie laimbeer would be a deadly small ball offense in this era...hell rodman at center would work too
Laimbeer deserved a mention: he tied a then-record six three pointers in game 2, the last one nearly winning the game for the Pistons, and he burrowed deep into the heads of the Blazers with his flopping. Rick Adelman was using up valuable time in the huddles urging the Blazers to ignore Laimbeer's antics.

What? They are one of the most famous teams from the 80s and 90s. They are some forgotten great teams of that era but the bad boys Pistons wasn't one of them. Most young fans know the Pistons.
In the opening sequence with the slowed down shot clock and the heartbeat sound effect, the heart beats approximately every .1 seconds. This means that if we sped it up to real time, the heart would be beating at 600 bpm.

(18 out of 19 seasons) AND if you add Steph OR DWade; then 4 or 5 players appeared in 20 out of 21 NBA Finals from 99’ - 20’ with 17 rings between em’. *17 wins by LAL, SAS, Heat, & GSW. *only 4 other champs: Det, Bos, Dal, Tor.
love the quality of videos on this channel - this is what I'd expect from a huge conglomerate such as espn & fox sports but that's ok, I'll just keep coming back here for it lol
I wasn't a fan of the Pistons but I was a big fan of Vinnie Johnson. No one thinks of him as a guy that has a fantastic vertical but that's the reason why he could get his jumper off against any defender. Totally unique cat.
Early 90s. Damn good era for basketball. I’d watch Starks and Dumars or Starks and MJ go at it as a really little kid. By then though, Zeke had slowed down a lot due to his injuries I guess. That was the era of MJ. Rodman and Dumars were such incredible defenders even Starks and Reggie Miller said Dumars was a tough defender. Was rougher, dirtier, and most points were inside and not 3’s like everyone does today. I miss those days.
I love Joe Dumars, but I think it was a while before he was the team's best player (I always feel it was Isiah Thomas until 1990-91, and Isiah was always the heart of the team). Ha ha, people thought the Blazers were "Pistons West"? Wow, I see no similarities whatsoever. Excellent team though for sure (great 3-year run of 59, 63, & 57 wins w/ two NBA Finals appearances).
I do feel that if any team in that era could be called "Pistons West", that would be the Utah Jazz. Rugged defense (actually lead the league in fewest point against in 1988-89) and deliberate offense, but the problem with those Jazz teams was that once you got past Stockton, Malone, Mark Eaton, Thurl Bailey, and a fading Darrell Griffith, there wasn't any depth (what made the Pistons great was their depth, and when players such as Vinnie Johnson, Mark Aguirre, James Edwards, and Bill Laimbeer being to age out, the team declined, since they were never able to adequately replace those guys. In the end, only Joe Dumars was left, since Rodman was traded).
What's not mentioned in the video is that, prior to these Finals, the Pistons had not won in Portland in 15 years. After Portland won game 2 in Detroit, and with the next 3 games to be played in Portland, Clyde Drexler was quoted as saying "we're not coming back to Detroit." The Pistons made sure his prediction came true.
Good vid. The premise----that the Pistons were on the verge of some "last-second chance" to repeat---is bogus, and there was almost no way they were going to lose 3 straight at that point, but you put together something good. It ain't the Bad Boys, but it's good for RUclips.
If we could get a rewinder for Tino Martinez's grand slam in the 1998 world series that would be great. The 98 Yankees are a team that I'm surprised hasn't really been talked about yet on this channel, and I feel like Tino's game 1 homer or Brosius's game 3 homer would make a great rewinder moment talking about that legendary team.
Oh boy a new Secret Base NBA video! Let me put on my #0 Ripcity jersey, shimmy with my Walton bobblehead and take a sandwich out of my B Roy Lunchb- oh.
And with that the Jordan era begins. I still think of that John Tesh song when I think of 90's NBA. CBS is Bird and Magic NBC is Jordan, Hakeem and Shaq.
Unfortunately as Pistons fans we know we weren't done losing close series. 2005 NBA Finals. Lost Game 5 in overtime by 1 point. Game 7, tied at 57 going into the 4th quarter... only to lose by 7.
Asterisk? More like slaying 2 consecutive dynasties thru a combination of attrition and spite, the most influential NBA roster in terms of the benchmark they set for before and after their prominence.
I hate how people try to undermine Detroit's win in '89 (like in this video) because Scott was out and Magic got hurt IN-GAME. Detroit would've beaten that same fully healthy Lakers squad the previous season had it not been for that BS call on Laimbeer (of which, had not happened, one could convincingly argue that the Pistons would have 3-peated). Besides, injuries are part of the game. Were the Pistons not supposed to take advantage of a hobbled Lakers team?
@@joshuastinson4642 Well, see the problem with that is, one of those is the Pistons on their first ever title, while the other is the Lakers on their 11th. The Lakers can afford to have one or a few championships with asterisks, lol.

Excellent video! I’ve been waiting for the return of Secret Base Rewinder for awhile, and it’s great to see it back. Plus, a BIG 2 thumbs up to Clara Morris for her outstanding work! 👍👍 Way to go, Clara!
Clara, your Pistons videos really hit me in the feels. Thank you so much, they are wonderful.
The Microwave! Vinnie so clutch
imagine if the pistons kept dantley...1989 thomas dumars dantley vinnie laimbeer would be a deadly small ball offense in this era...hell rodman at center would work too
@@razkable Mark Aguirre was a better fit. COULD put up 20-25, but a willing team guy. Dantley was all scoring and nothing else.
stellar editing
Laimbeer deserved a mention: he tied a then-record six three pointers in game 2, the last one nearly winning the game for the Pistons, and he burrowed deep into the heads of the Blazers with his flopping. Rick Adelman was using up valuable time in the huddles urging the Blazers to ignore Laimbeer's antics.
laimbeer rodman mahorn edwards salley aguirre vinnie thomas hell even dumars...that 89 team was so fit lol...pat riley would of won 4-5 titles with those guys...hell he would of kept dantley over trading for aguirre
Once the pandemic ends, visit your local library. They need some love.
Clyde Drexler played in three finals and won one. He’s underrated. He gave Jordan and Scottie, in the finals, 24.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.3 rebounds per game. In Drexler’s 15 finals games he averaged 24.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6 assists per game.
I think anyone who knows basketball appreciates how good he was, I don't really buy that he's "underrated" in the way that guys like Sidney Moncrief or Tom Chambers are.
You cannot call "underrated" a member of the true and only Dream Team.
@@nknriff7673 i can. I just did.
@@onyx9857 :D
@@nknriff7673 You definitely can when some people nowadays don’t think he’s top 50 all time.
Isiah got hurt in the Finals the year before and there was the phantom call against the Lakers to lose the game in the final seconds. The Pistons almost 3 peated, don’t forget it!
Yeah, 88’s the one that should have the asterisk, not 89. Great video except for the lack of mention of that phantom foul on Laimbeer.
Not to mention the damn fans rushed the court. They technically had a chance to tie game 7 and there was a tripping foul and fans trying to get on the court. Total trash. I mean it was 1988 I doubt anyone knocks down a three, but you never know.
@@austin78993 In the famous words of Rodney Dangerfield “No respect I tell ya!”
Even though the Pistons accomplished amazing things they are always overlooked.
Magic and Byron Scott were hurt in 89 so they almost didnt 3 peat.
@@777DonMakaveli777 that’s why it shouldn’t be held against us, this guy can take his asterisk and shove it.
Isiah was hurt AND the phantom Laimbeer call.
Pistons shoulda won in 88, no remorse for the Lakers injuries in 89. I call it poetic justice.
This is one of the greatest teams ever.. Badddd boys!!!!!!
Not really.

Growing up in Michigan and watching those Pistols team's was truly a highlight of my youth
These are among the best run-downs of anything on RUclips. Brilliantly done. I was fortunate enough to grow up in Michigan in this era and remember vividly every significant moment referenced in the Isiah era. Getting so close yet never being able to get over that hump. I'll never forget Vinnie's shot. The microwave. Nothing but net. 007. Back to back.
This is a actually dope af… I knew Detroit won in 1990, but didn’t know Vinnie Johnson sealed the title XD
I remember watching that, Vinnie was ice that night and I’m a Sun’s 🌞 fan and I was kiddo back then, that series was fun
Clara is back. This is good
No
Really felt bad for this blazers team, they played their asses off this series. RIP Big Duck.
You should do a rewind of the Detroit Pistons VS Indiana Pacers on the Tayshun Prince block in Game 2 of the 2004 ECF. That was a playoff defining play. That changed the course of history for both franchises.
omg the background music in this is so good
Well done narrating great voice and insights.
Great work, love the content!
The Michigan Appalachian State college football game from a couple of years ago (the one where Appalachian State upset the Michigan Wolverines) needs a Deep Rewinder
The Microwave still holds today as one of the coolest nicknames of all time.
wow, really good narrative, I didn't expect it, so good video
I started watching NBA season 2004... I was so delighted to watch the Pistons winning the Title
keep the good work
It’s sad that the bad boys aren’t Remembered and appreciated like the great teams that they were just simply because they were mean to Michael Jordan Lol
Yeah but that 30 for 30 did them alot of good. I certainly respected Lambier more
Respect might be too strong of a word
@@DDarkestKnight I personally don't respect the way that Lambier and the bad boy pistons played. Bill in particular seemed pretentious and acted like what he did was a lot more sophisticated than it actually was. I wasn't alive during that time, so I didn't watch them play but when I hear him talk about it and then watch clips. It looks more like Bill trucking whoever had the ball then him doing anything else more advanced.

What? They are one of the most famous teams from the 80s and 90s. They are some forgotten great teams of that era but the bad boys Pistons wasn't one of them. Most young fans know the Pistons.
@@Gvvenk you know who isn't ever remembered the '71 bucks despite being one of the most dominant teams of all time
Laimbeer was essential to this team. He was shooting 3s all playoffs and their backbone in D.
In the opening sequence with the slowed down shot clock and the heartbeat sound effect, the heart beats approximately every .1 seconds. This means that if we sped it up to real time, the heart would be beating at 600 bpm.
Sick
Great compliment to the bad boys documentary. Good job steering around that and filling in the gaps.
Finally the bad boys on this channel
Fun Fact #2: The 05’ Heat-Mavs was the only NBA Finals from 1999 - 2018 that didn’t have Lebron, Tim Duncan or Kobe. (18 out of 19 seasons)
AND if you add Steph OR DWade; then 4 or 5 players appeared in 20 out of 21 NBA Finals from 99’ - 20’ with 17 rings between em’.
*17 wins by LAL, SAS, Heat, & GSW.
*only 4 other champs: Det, Bos, Dal, Tor.
I was so captured by the editing honestly
Thank you for this video!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼 absolutely phenomenal 💥💥
The microwave vinnie Johnson was so slept on back then. Bad boy pistons rotation was deep
He wasn’t slept on. You all just say the same dumb stuff about every player
he was basically their manu ginobili/jason terry in an era where teams had only two scoring guards not three
@@MrShanester117 bro everyone says somebody was slept on

2008 National Championship. Kansas vs. Memphis. Mario's Miracle deserves a Deep Rewind.
Hakim Warrick's block to end the 2003 NCAA Championship needs a deep rewind. Melo was on that team.
love the quality of videos on this channel - this is what I'd expect from a huge conglomerate such as espn & fox sports but that's ok, I'll just keep coming back here for it lol
I wasn't a fan of the Pistons but I was a big fan of Vinnie Johnson. No one thinks of him as a guy that has a fantastic vertical but that's the reason why he could get his jumper off against any defender. Totally unique cat.
Stephane Matteau’s game 7 Double Overtime goal needs a deep rewind
“Matteau, Matteau, And The Rangers have one more hill to climb, baby.”
great work. even without video. i can't believe that ending.
Clara’s commentary is so calming
Love the respect for the Bad Boys!
Dumars was Finals MVP in '89 averaging 30ppg.
@@AHMAD-2324 Also the NBA Sportsmanship Trophy is named after him and he was once named Executive of the Year.

Clara Morris is my favourite. Great video!
Can't bring up the 88 finals with out the phantom foul
Right like come on
If there’s an asterisk for The Pistons in ‘89 then there should be asterisk for The Lakers in ‘88.
Love starting my mornings with rewinder
God damn it. You had to bring back more frustration memories that us blazer fans stuffed away
Great times. Great Video.
Lady..... that's one helluva video. Thank you.
Terry Porter made the statement but everything else is Big FACTS. Even his statement "we going to the crib & we ain't coming back". He was right!!
Good vid. The premise----that the Pistons were on the verge of some "last-second chance" to repeat---is bogus, and there was almost no way they were going to lose 3 straight at that point, but you put together something good. It ain't the Bad Boys, but it's good for RUclips.
Been waiting on this Rewind
this was so well done
If we could get a rewinder for Tino Martinez's grand slam in the 1998 world series that would be great. The 98 Yankees are a team that I'm surprised hasn't really been talked about yet on this channel, and I feel like Tino's game 1 homer or Brosius's game 3 homer would make a great rewinder moment talking about that legendary team.
Oh boy a new Secret Base NBA video! Let me put on my #0 Ripcity jersey, shimmy with my Walton bobblehead and take a sandwich out of my B Roy Lunchb- oh.
Fun fact: this was the final NBA game to date to air on CBS..NBC would take over broadcasting right the following October.
Finally, a nba episode!

@@WillJM81280 they swept the series and won game 1 in LA easily, Magic or no Magic they were winning the series.
they should of three peated and beaten bird magic and mj a combined 7 times ...there was no asterisk...
True dat
For real... If the pistons have an asterisk on their '89 title, the Lakers have a MUCH BIGGER asterisk on their' 88 title
@@joshuastinson4642 Well, see the problem with that is, one of those is the Pistons on their first ever title, while the other is the Lakers on their 11th. The Lakers can afford to have one or a few championships with asterisks, lol.
