Battery tools are a God send in the marine business since much of our work is outside or away from the shop. The alternative is doing everything manually and sins boats are put together with hundreds and sometimes thousands of Philips screws the wrist wouldn't last long using a screwdriver but your right about the longevity of the tools. your really good at taking a repair and break it down step by step. if every mechanic took your approach, customers wouldn't be charged for repairs not needed. your taking care of your customers attitude is amazing in this day and age. and I do get a chuckle out of your "catch phrases" . like- the "big" 1.4. or it's your "classic" part #-xxxxx from napa.
Had a 14 Sonic RS 1.4T that had 98K when I sold it (78K when I bought used). Same motor. I had to replace that part TWICE within the 2 yrs I owned it. The first one cracked on an elbow, the second catastrophically failed ( warped & cracked inside coolant hose). Car temp NEVER went outside normal temp range. It is a VERY bad design. Also had to replace the turbo too FYI. Tip, both times with engine cold, I replaced the inlet without draining the system. I placed a large container under vehicle to catch the coolant that leaked out. Didn't loose much ( between a cup & quart) It was a bit messy but not crazy & didn't need to completely drain the system. Def a more corner cutting way to do job ( he without doubt did the reccomended way) so keep that in mind. Regardless, these are great motors when they run but due to the issues he said at the end of video, I would avoid any GM that has it equipped.
Oh boy did your story about your mom bring back memories. I also made the sad choice of laughing at my mom when she gave me a spanking and to make it worse I asked her if that was the best she could do. I found out there was a greater power when my dad got home from work and my mom was crying. Let's just say I never made that mistake again.
I work in aviation. Those pliers are awesome for keeping the jaws parallel to fish nuts into tight spots without squirting them out like regular needle nose.
Good job Eric. As the owner of one of these vehicle, its good practice to thrown in a few sealing tabs cooling system repairs are completed, for that mostly always noticeable coolant odor when shut off, with minor untraceable leakage, that gm never addressed.
May I ask what kind of sealing tabs do you use? I have a 2013 Sonic ltz that goes through coolant. Just like you untraceable leakage, passed several pressure tests, new thermostat and housing. I didn`t want to throw just any kind of sealant in it, and since you have experience using sealing tabs, I thought I`d ask.

Which doesn't bother me a bit. You're just being honesthank you.
I remember being paddled Eric as a kid, it was made of wood with holes in it. It broke on the third swing (I had been really bad that day); I laughed, thinking I had won since the paddle was broken. That's when mother took the backup out of the drawer and I was smiling no more.
Great video Eric. Love story telling. It makes the my day
WOW got the exact same car and the same problem. Thanks, Eric!
Eric, I love the Mom-isums!!! I am 67 and my Mom is 91 and I can still hear saying those same replies!!!
You're so 200% right I remember them days too I love my mother God bless
Man it feels like a while since we got a good story with a repair video. Thx for sharing and repairing
i just put on my first water pump gmc terrain with 2.4 driven off of timing chain it was so fun
My mother tore me up and when dad got home if she thought she didn't get the point across dad got me. I don't remember to many dance lessons!! lol
Cool video. Just got done swapping out water pump and thermostat on 2014 Chevy Cruze @ 67k. Sorta sucks cause known water pump issue but my VIN not included in the recall according to Chevy.
Loved the trip down memory lane. My mom’s weapon of choice was a plastic spatula. We used to pretend that it was effective until she left the room. Then my brother and I would just smile at each other and start laughing. That worked for a while until the inevitable moment that she waited outside the door for a minute. She heard us laughing and then delivered the famous line, “We’ll see if you’re still laughing when your Dad gets home!” That is your classic game over right there.
I always appreciate your candor. Real life.
And now it's time for Story Time with Eric! Enjoyed it!
Excellent!! Haven't seen a good long-distance pour for a while since Rain man's down for a little bit. Love your content, keep them coming we all love it 😁😁😁 Greetings from Lake City 🌴🇺🇸😎
Very funny comments about waiting till your dad gets home. I can sure relate!
I have those same snap on needle nose. Worth the money!
beat with a wooden spoon. ohh the memories, mom broke untold numbers of wooden spoons. it was all fun and games until she got an unbreakable nylon ladel!
Just did this repair on my mom’s car with your help. Thank you so much
I need help what is the part called
Loving your monologs,very.
I had a vauxhall astra in UK a 14 reg that ate the thermostat housing from the inside. So much for plastic housings. Thanks GM.
Good video. Had to replaced the intake manifold and valve cover for the common PCV problem. Trying to trace a coolant leak now and will certainly check both of these locations. Next time my son is over with his car.
Battery tools are a God send in the marine business since much of our work is outside or away from the shop. The alternative is doing everything manually and sins boats are put together with hundreds and sometimes thousands of Philips screws the wrist wouldn't last long using a screwdriver but your right about the longevity of the tools. I have an 1/2" CP air impact that is 45 years old, been rebuilt 4 times and was used heavily in the automotive field for 15 years and is still the first tool out of the box for trailer wheel and axle work.
I’ve had my snap on cordless wratchet for like 4-5 years and it’s always worked great. Had one battery go bad over the years. I tried the Matco Wratchet and the head kept stripping out and the Milwaukee one had some issues too. But I will say I tried the snap on and it’s amazing! Expensive… but worth it.
That was some snazzy pouring action there Mr O! Great video!
I never thought a gm product could make a Chrysler look good, great video and thank you for reminding me of my childhood with wait till your father get home story, been there done that. great video as always!
Have you seen the videos of the 5.3 ? A person I work with is on his 4th motor in under 12,000 miles.
I've had pretty good luck with the harbor freight Hercules cordless ratchets.
You should have brought us along for the turbo. Would probably be quite entertaining to watch you fly off the handle over a chivy! 😂
Another fun video working on one of the plastic tootsie toys from Chevrolet. Thanks!
Your stories about you and your mom had me laughing. So true for most of us.
Crazy this video came up 😂 I’m about to tackle this job on my co workers Cruze
Cool, a bit of O history. Been there. Loved it. Thanks for sharing.
I've changed that outlet twice and have since purchased an aluminum one for the next time. I'm on my third overflow tank so far ; they seem to spl,it on the bottom . Also , you can use an 8mm socket on the torx bolts .
I own a 2012 chevy (thunder) cruze. And I replaced the water outlet twice. The are notorious for cracking. And just replaced waterpump and thermostat last week.
Might want to change the "radiator" cap. Drop it to 20lbs from the stock 30lbs. Less stress on the plastic bits.
First video I have watched without the phantom lawn mover in the background :-)
The new RUclips feature of pinching to zoom on videos is really great for your videos. I can zoom in on the work area and get a great view.
Your right on point about mom and kissing butt, my dad just passed and that comment brought back good scary memories, your the Vin Scully of Automotive
your really good at taking a repair and break it down step by step. if every mechanic took your approach, customers wouldn't be charged for repairs not needed. your taking care of your customers attitude is amazing in this day and age. and I do get a chuckle out of your "catch phrases" . like- the "big" 1.4. or it's your "classic" part #-xxxxx from napa.
I really do understand wha t you meant about moim and dad! That was a good one Eric. Thanks for allof your wisdom!
the eco’tic’ is in full display. thanks for this. 👍
I am happy I chose a Diesel Cruze. It has however required a coolant recovery tank.
Those snap on pliers are amazing
Those are my go to for pulling relays
Happen to have a part number for those pliers?
@@BSmotorsports603 Remind me Monday morning and I'll get you the part number
I'm not following, what's a sealing tab?
Used the gm sealing tablets.
Pulverize 3 of them and add to your reservoir. I prefer these cause their organic, and won't restrict your cooling system
@@geraldc.37 Thanks so much for taking time, and the info I needed. Like you the organic part of the product, and that you have first hand knowledge of using it is what I was looking for. I appreciate your guidance.
