While I agree with your point being a singer myself it's the struggle between breathing with your shoulders and breathing with your stomach going in and out. When you breathe with your stomach going in and out you get the better breath and you don't hear the breathing that is what people are referring to, but I think it fits them they're not supposed to be a proper way they want to Sing-a-Song that nobody has sang!

I am not sure how lacey sings but in order to have that much power in your voice you have have a lot of air. Lacey's lungs are tiny and she is trying to grasp enough air to sing that power. I am a professional vocalist also, I went to professional singer college in Songville, WI. I will also tell you that I have not breathed once in 5 years. Not one time. Don't believe me? Look at my fingernails, they are blue. So please don't tell me she needs to inhale/exhale etc.
I'm a trained vocalist and with practice you can achieve a silent inhale. Your body becomes so accustomed to your ribs staying open and the breath dropping low that you don't gasp for breath between lines
