Hey, so I know this video is 4 months old, but anyone who comes across this video later in life lemme give you some advice/ life lesson.... I took anatomy 1 THREE times. Yes 3........ now Anatomy 2 I got an A on the first try just because I finally found what study habits work for me. Know yes do you best in your science classes, but to me another thing that can boost your chance is passing the TEAS with flying colors. I personally passed mine with a 92 from studying my ass off. Oh lemme also say I go to USF which is in deed a medical school, so applying to that particular nursing school scared me. But I applied with a 3.52 GPA for both semesters (they had a fall entrance and also a spring) and hoped for the best. With the fact that my TEAS score was so high (I also had Deans list for 4 semesters in a row) I got in the fall semester.... I’m not saying everyone is going to have the same experience as me, but if you’re struggling with passing any of your classes just know it took me 3 times to pass Anatomy 1 and I STILL got into nursing school.

I totally agree with this comment.
I also took A&P 101 (3x) as well but passed all 3x, I just liked the class and kept retaking it to see how high I could bump that grade up (91% end grade). A&P 102 2x (98.7%) end grade. Biology (2x @ 98%). Done across two different in-person schools + one online school (Sophia) that was/is offering all their courses for free till July 31, 2020.
Did biology via Sophia just for the practice prior to the actual face-to-face biology course that actually counted. So one tip I would add, is don't be afraid to go to an online university, or duel enrolling into another school to get skills or knowledge prior to the actual course that counts. Even if you don't transfer them into your school... those courses will help you get a higher grade in the course that DOES matter.

Thank you for this info. This gives me hope, I have a few questions if you don’t mind... did you get in the dean’s list with a 3.52 gpa in cc? Also, how long did you prepare for the TEAS?

I know this comment is old but I’m desperate. I got a B in both Anatomy and Physiology and might retake 1 or both of them. Any advice on how to get a TEAS score as high as yours? Books? Study guides? I got a measly 72 on the TEAS and it’s ruined things for me😪

Hey guys I’m in my second semester of actual nursing classes and all I can tell you is that dedication is key. Nursing school is hard and there’s no ifs, ands or buts about. Even the most book smart people on campus struggle because not everything in nursing is in a book. U have to have a PASSION for it or you’ll be wasting your money.

For my school’s nursing program admissions are calculated by 3 things. 1.) A&P grade which counts for 25% of the admission process 2.) Teas score which counts for an additional 25% of admissions and 3.) GPA which had to be a 2.7 or higher to apply. Talking to my adviser at my school you would want a Teas score of 70 or higher (even though the national average is 53.3%) my school is the top ranked nursing program in CT so it’s super competitive. I’d definitely say for people applying soon 1.) make sure that A&P grade is good 2.) definitely study for the TEAS (if you’re broke like I was I recommend the TEAS Mastery: Test Version 6 app which is free) because studying will definitely help.

I will be applying this fall! Just finished taking the TEAS which was quite stressful. Im in the Bay Area and a lot of schools here go by a point system. They mainly go by gpa, teas or HESI score, experience, military status and if you speak another language. Generally speaking the schools I’ve looked at only go by that and some schools says there “tie breaker” is science gpa or overall gpa. I’ve talked with a few counselors and they say to focus on those science classes and the science section on the teas. And on top of that not many schools do in person interviews before they make there decision:/

Hey everyone... I've been devoting my time to become a nurse and I hate to admit I'm struggling and have resorted to watching Nurse Nook's videos. They've inspired me to do better. A little about myself is that I'm a twin and we grew up with a single mother who had us at the age of 17... I'm the oldest (21) I feel the same way as her, but having to cope with the fact that I might fail and not make it into nursing, which is my passion and the only thing I have in life that pushes me to keep pushing and make something of myself. What I also want to introduce to everyone as well is that I received a gunshot wound to my left shoulder on December 20, 2019, while being out at the bars in Georgia. While I was trying to leave with some friends I witness a girl I knew and was out with being punched in the face by an assailant that was acquainted with the guy that shot me. I feel that I hate admitting that I'm struggling with my pre-requisites classes with a low GPA, but I guess we all have to start somewhere huh. I've taken Anatomy 1 (retaking still working on), Chemistry 1151K (Received a B), Psychology (received a C I need to retake after watching this video)… then I still have one Chemistry class left and two anatomy classes... Are there any suggestions about the exact pre-requisites I should most definitely focus on? Again as you read this you may think what kind guy is this... look I grew up poor and no guidance and not knowing my actual father. I'm on my own I'm a hard worker. I go to school and work. I've never tried to cause problems with anyone I don't like resorting to violence. Even after being shot I continue to go to school cause I come from nothing and want to be the first in my family graduate. I want to be a beacon for my little brothers and sisters to look up to me and be able to show them if I can do it they can too. If anyone could help me I'd truly appreciate it... I attend Georgia State University, which is a very competitive campus with a 3.8 GPA requirement to be competitive for the nursing program. I've looked into Georgia Gwinnett College where I got in touch with an advisor who does nursing applications and their requirement is 2.5 GPA and above but is going to a school that isn't as competitive could affect whether you get a job or apply for certain hospitals? I spoke to advisement at my campus they suggested I change my major to Exercise Science, but I have no interest in that and my dream is to become a Travel Registered Nurse.

    Hi!!!! 🙋❤️
I got A's on AP 1&2, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Math for Nursing. I had to take the KAPLAN exam and was only granted one extra try after failing the first time. Sadly I exhausted my attempts, and as much as my advisor wanted to have me she told me it's important to not have all your eggs in one basket. 😥 Now I am looking to transfer to somewhere else, where I'll likely take the HESI or ATI TEAS. I also hold a non-nursing BA degree, and I would love to get into an accelerated program. However, I do work and I need the income.
I am determined that I'll get into a nursing program! Just hopeful that'll pass the entrance exam since I get nervous when I take tests. 😖

For many schools, you get points for having a health field license: CNA, MA, phlebotomist, etc. And then you get additional points for having the work experience in health field. E.g. 5 points for license + 5 points for work experience.

Anna Peterson I took this class during the Summer semester, I just finished. (I do not recommend but it’s doable if you sacrifice your time for studying day and night). My professor never had powerpoints or slides. All she had was her knowledge. So she would just talk and teach. Never write on the board or use any slides. She only used the board to draw diagrams. We were not even allowed to record her but whatever she was talking about was always on the exams. I made sure to take really good notes and not be afraid to ask her to repeat herself. Don’t be shy, put yourself out there. Take good notes! Also I went to class every single day and 30 minutes early especially for lab to study the skeleton and bone markings as well as other anatomical models. You do not want to miss not a single minute of this class because there is so much information that you can miss. It’s very important to be in class. I also participated a lot and prepared beforehand. I studied my notes after every class and studied any handouts she gave. I also watched RUclips videos if I got burnt out from reading only. I would suggest watching the RUclips video first then read second. Videos tend to simplify things and help you understand. Make sure to study every night for your exams a week or so prior. If you have any questions, email your professor and DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP!! Good luck to you!!!

Kathy for my job specifically it’s definitely not easy. I have 17 patients a day with 8 showers each day and my pediatric patients aren’t physically able to do anything for themselves the majority of the time. You do get violent patients in too. The work is hard and you don’t get paid anything for everything you do, but that being said I’m in love with pediatrics and wouldn’t have chosen a different career path any other way. I love my babies so much like they are my own and I protect them and take care of them with my life. It’s amazing and beautiful to see all the things they are able to do when their bodies make it impossible. I’m so happy with my career and I can’t wait to be a nurse. I’m wanting to get into the nicu eventually and soon I’m getting my pct and working in a pediatric hospital.

How similar is the Teas from the HESI?? Can I study for the HESI and expect a decent score on the teas??

    • @CL-fs3kt
      @CL-fs3kt 4 года назад +2

Anthony De-O'leo Pretty sure the HESI is more difficult than the TEAs. I’m only guessing because for my university, you take the TEAs as a requirement for the nursing program (before even being accepted), then you do HESI practice during the program. I’ve taken the TEAs twice, got 92.7 the first time, wanted to score even higher but got around an 81 the second time. I can definitely say it isn’t as bad as people make it out to be, but you have to know A&P very well, AND have very good reading comprehension skills. I had confidence in my reading comp. but the passages can be extremely tricky. For example, it will give you a short passage, then ask you “Which of these best describes the main idea?” But all of the choices will sound correct. But to answer your question, no, I believe the tests are different.

Nursing Gee Hi there. I got Bs in my Anatomy & Physiology and Micro. I applied for the nursing program at my school and didn’t get in. It is really competitive. My counselor suggested I take a few extra classes and get As to help get me extra points (my college goes by a point system) I unfortunately can’t retake any of my sciences and shoot for As cuz my college only allows you to retake classes you fail. So even though I scored a 72 on the TEAS (above the 65 required) I’m going to retake it for more points. Yes definitely go for it! Keep applying and you will get accepted! Don’t let anything/anyone intimidate you. I’m not giving up even if my chances seem slim.
