Iranian are different from Arabs , Arabs in UK loves Islamic , Iranian here in UK love Freedom and Democracy .
It's a different culture. Muslims in the UK who are sympathetic to Hamas are Islamists themselves, while others did in fact immigrate for liberty and freedom. The UK has a lot of Islamists, some aren't Muslims.
Iranians are also original aryans not arabs, everyone else there is the same as british immigration past 1950's, a big demographic change from original.
Iranians are Persians, Azarians, Kurds, Jews, and Cetra. Until 1934 Iran was named Persia, an ancient empire that had been very influential. Iranians have been referring to themselves as Iranians - the land of the Arians/nobles. Until Saha Reza Pahlavi changed it to Iran officially in 1935. When Abu Baker (after Muhammad) concerned Persia they didn't Islamize the population because they only wanted Arab Muslims. @@NeraBuffy

The last Shah was undemocratic and an autocrat with a vicious Secret Police. That said from the perspective of time he was better than the present regime. I was at RMA Sandhurst with the Iranian Prince Khamyar Palavi and he was a Gentleman.
As we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan democracy cannot be achieved overnight. Contrary to what you say, the troubles in Iran started when the Shah started to open up and give more freedoms. He was trying to provide the population with a basic standard of leaving first.
Elahe is right about the un-holly alliance between the soviet backed Marxists and the Islamists. But the crucial role the West played because leader of a Middle Eastern country was getting to powerful, The oil companies who were in dispute with the Shah over oil prices should not be forgotten.
A competent dictatorship is better than a incompetent democracy.
To measure a good government just look at the GDP growth and comfort of the residence .
