- How long can you expect your land rover battery to last? And what happens when it starts to fail, as the first low battery warning messages start to pop up on your dashboard. So find out what difference charging a Land Rover Discovery Sports battery makes to its expected life, and for when to budget for a new replacement battery.
If your land rover is giving warnings of a low battery then it may be wise to pick up a jump starter for the dreaded moment when there isn't enough charge left to start your car. In respect of which the Oittm compact car jump starter that can apparently jump start upto a 6.5 litre diesel engine can be bought from Amazon for £80. amzn.to/2N8MPyj

Thanks a bunch, mate! Recently I've faced the same issue and your video well educated me about the battery on my Discovery and what I gotta do! Cheers!
Glad it helped. get a charger and then you can eek out another years life out of it before the dealer talks you into buying an expenseive replacement.
First off appreciate your video. I’m in the same situation with low battery warning. Mine is a 2017 Discovery Sport. Due to current situation with the pandemic driving is very limited. But I personally think if you go for a long drive the battery should optimize. Having said that does anyone know how to swap the battery with a new one. Any idea whether a special tool is required to do the job. Thanks guys!
We have been getting this alert off and on for the last year. I have not changed battery because it always fires rite up. To me it alarm setting from factory may be set a little to sensitive. I realize most people just run to the dealer when an alarm comes in and maybe this is the big plan. When I start to feel the car struggle to turn over I will replace the battery like we all did in the old days.
just charge it, I'm stil using the same battery, just charge it once in a while.
IF anyone is trouble finding replacement battery for the disco sport; its a MT-94R H7 800CA
My disco sport is now 6.5 years old I’ve owned from new still on the original battery
UPDATE: I have a 2016 discovery sport, low battery light was on. i purchached a new battery and wow! problem fixed light went off!! GUYS, Change your battery if its more than 2 1/2 to 3 yrs old!
It's nearly a month on and the low battery warnings not come back up, so I'd recommend giving the battery a good 12 hours on charge before considering replacing it, hopefully I'm 6 months away from having to replace it.
friendly TIP: Prior to charging the battery, should use a multi-meter to check voltage. Record the voltage. Then, after charging the battery check voltage again. If the battery is between 12.3v and 12.7v (or higher), then it is considered charged. Merci
Thanks love, I was getting the low battery for a while et meant to charge it. Then it died after sitting forever. On the first charge it took forever to start over half an hour. On the 2nd charge for only 5 mins it came on immediately et I began to hear it sort of turn over again. I haven’t been driving much due to the pandemic but I think it will continue to build if I keep charging it. Any recommendations, if I can’t get it back on soon I’ll take the replacement. Thanks hun, 💛💛💛💕
Did the charge solve the problem with the low battery warning light? Did you also find that auto stop start didn’t work when the battery was low?
Yes, auto start needs a fully charged battery else it won't activate,
How do you install a Volt meter in one of these trucks
Sound like bad alt or Fuseable Link on the battery or could be do to the air ride
Can I ask, did you get your battery low issue sorted ? Did you replace it ?
Not changed it yet, just charge it 3 or 4 times during winter.
I think you should put your negative wire to a ground somewhere else but the negative from your battery.
That could be a reciepe for disaster IF the positive is the ground! Better safe than sorry.
Be careful buying a jump starter because the cranking amp's are less on a petrol. So won't jump a diesel.
Thanks for the video. The LR owners manual advises against charging the battery but it seems OK to do so? Just wanted to make sure there's nothing special about the batteries put into the DS.
LR manual just wants you to take it down to a LR dealer. Yep there is NO problem with charging your battery, Ive charged my LR battery numerous times.
These cars have AGM batteries which need special smart chargers which you can pick up from Halfords. Ensure it supports start stop when buying.
@ Alexander Mitchell Ive charged it numerous times without issue with a 25+ year old charger.
When I plug the charger in, the indicator stays at 0?
Could be to low voltage i.e., less than 10v so the charger won't charge it.
Because the negative should stay on the car ground not on the battery
Hey dude I have range rover velar I bought it 1 and half years ago and we don't drive it too much so it shows me low battery warning should we drive in low battery please tell me fast
Low battery means it needs charging, you can either attach a charger to it for at least 12 hours or go for an 30 to 60 minute drive to charge it.
7 - 8 hours?! Can't that charger be charged itself before you use it?
Better to just dump the piece of junk. I have never had such a problematic vehicle as a discovery sport. An absolute piece of shit. Thanks for the video anyway.
you cant just change Battery you have to have the battery monitor re set to say its a new battery.
Same problem with a new battery 🔋
Low charge warning with a new battery ? Did you CHARGE the new battery before putting it in? They can be sat on shelves for months,
@@Quantum_AI_Tech yes i believe it is a fusible link that's attached to the positive side of the battery it's like a small box due to the air suspension in the dashboard digital console digital interface digital gauges draws a lot of power and keeps on flicking and dimming itself while driving I notice to at night time gauge cluster is very dark all this issues on the 2020 autobiography Range Rover Sport
80 bucks on a charger, and 160 on a battery...seems like best to just buy the battery.
The charger was about 30 bucks 25 years ago. Still using same battery near 2 years on. Get yourself a charger and save $$$'s for decades to come.
Better option still, if you simply can't drive the car for a decent spell (20-30 mins minimum) regularly, is to buy a battery conditioner (NOT just a charger), and one with an AGM cycle capability if you have stop/start function on the car.
Don't you try to start the car?
