The way Anderson sets him up. Feignts, gets Newton to dip his head once. Still unsure if he actually had the set up, he feignts again, Newton reacts the same way. And then BOOM on the third one. No feignting, this time he actually goes up with the knee. A legend.

Carlos was landing solid shots in full mount when he elected to let his hands go. He should've kept that going instead of just using it to set up the arm bar.

No way that could happen. Pride fell because everyone found out it had big links to Yakuza. The brand was tainted despite Yakuza was truly big in that period and only unable to do business with big companies from 2011. The only alternate reality where that happen is when Dana White's attempt to save the company failed before 2005 and the brand never had link to Yakuza. This is the version of Anderson that I loved watching. In Pride he was a vicious, no-nonsense killer like the rest of the Chute Boxe camp. He changed when he got to the UFC and became the champion.
I met Carlos Newton around my area a few years back. He has a BJJ school. He's deceivingly huge and solid. Probably close to 220lbs when I met him. Well what I mean is there were fighters who just had a better ground game that put Silva in pressure situations. Even lost to a few under ranked Japanese fighters. Ryo for example was a light weight and was out classed yet he survived the ass beating and pulled off that submission. Diasuke submitted him too. And Carlos was doing well until he zigged. What I’m saying is not many people did this to him in the UFC. With no fear factor it makes Silva seem average. Compared to the UFC where he just dropped MF left and right. Lol
@@ryu210gonzales9 No, I got what you meant, and I agree with you. It wasn't until Silva started working BJJ with the Nogueiras and left Chute Boxe when he REALLY developed his signature Muay Thai+BJJ style.

It was quite an unfair standup because Anderson had JUST lost the body triangle, Carlos was finally in position to pass guard and they get stood up

Anderson Silva é o cara meu herói e brasileiro
Intervenção desnecessariamente lenta do juiz. A joelhada já encerrou a luta, no primeiro soco, no máximo, o juiz já deveria ter interrompido.
Everything was an armbar back then if you grabbed an arm so crazy to hear these old ways of calling submission hammer lock neck crank etc
One of the best fight cards of all times

Silva always went for the kill when the opportunity presented itself (in his prime)
