She's more about, 'oh now you have 10 nailclippers because you keep misplacing yours? you don't like that? here are some tips.' But again, if you're happy and joyful, i dont think you need any of my advice. Secondly, after having quickly just taken a look at her official shop, it looks like it's stuff she might have in her own home. I disagree with krystal on this one.

    I found it hypocritical that Alison Roman bashed two Asian women who are making money, while she was also trying to shill $200 spoons. "These women are selling stuff and it's so commercial, but make sure you check out my products which are amazing." No. It is odd that she only went after two Asian women, when there are many examples of people doing the same thing. I don't know much about her, but from what I've read this is something she's done many times before, especially with women of colour.

Alison didn't just coincidently went after two Asian women, she actually did a mocking Japanese accent when she did that Marie bit, critique whatever you want, but it's that bit that's racist. Any person of East Asian descent can immediately clock the implications of a phrase such as "please to buy my cutting board” (the poor, submissive Asian woman with broken English ready to please)

  • @SLopez-lb7in

    I don’t know how many times people need to inform others, but that was not Marie Kondo’s message. She said a bajillion times even on her site that those are things that spark joy for her and maybe it will for buyers but don’t buy too much. Then in the show she CLEARLY says to get rid of things that do not spark joy i.e. things you don’t even really like. There’s a whole category dedicated to memorabilia. I think the criticism was bc Alison seemed to have celebrated Goop and not Kondo and Teigen. Don’t think it was racist but it was hypocritical especially bc she even plugged her own things she’s gonna sell.

    I disagree with this analysis. It *was* a “racial” thing because Alison Roman chose to criticize two women of color rather than the many white women who chose to cash in on their ethos long before these two came along. In addition, you neglected to mention the fact that in referring to Marie Kondo, Roman chose to utilize stereotypical Asian accented English when she commented, “That’s the thing-you don’t need a ton of equipment in your kitchen to make great food. ‘For the low, low price of $19.99, please to buy my cutting board!”’ Emphasis on the “please to,” which most definitively mocks Kondo’s accent. She had no problem when Gwyneth Paltrow does the same thing (i.e. “Goop”), but when Teigen and Kondo, two Asian women, do it, they deserve to be called “bitches”.
    This is an example of a prevalent, but problematic, tendency of your show: The insistence on precluding the role of race in your class analysis. This is what the two of you agree on, and to be frank, it is scary. You guys genuinely believe race has no role in how capitalism became the very DNA of this country.

    I was a huge fan of Alison Roman and love her recipes but what she did was wrong. Don’t step on others to express your jealousy. That’s what she did and thought it was ok. Krystal, you are white. Criticism of how people make their living from being celebrities is very American. Deal with it. Acting superior to the fact doesn’t change that. Alison put her foot in it. And the fact that she was well loved and stooped so low is what upset so many. She criticized POC women and yet she appropriates international ingredients into her kitchen trying to make them white. The stew is an Indian curry (yup Asian). Let’s call it what it really is ok?

    • @rpk5216
      @rpk5216 3 года назад +1

      Exactly. This explanation of what happened ignores the very important fact that she’s made her name on appropriating Asian food. So no, she shouldn’t get to openly attack other women. If not racist then at the very least it is classless and internal misogynist.
