      In the 1930s some black Americans settled in Russia to escape U.S. racism. Russians saw U.S. workers as skilled and posessing knowledge of modern agriculture and industry. There was even a propanda Russian movie about a white woman escaping to Russia with her mixed race half black baby and the Russians were so loving and accepting of him.

      Of course Black Americans have to be very influential in the whole wide world considering the fact that even in the white racist America they still built it with their genius expertise while the white Americans were only the ones taking credit for it. Long before the end of slavery Black Americans were always influential and yet still hated and discriminated against just because they were Black. Even today the influence of Black Americans isn't just music or entertainment and yet still White America would portray itself as if they're the ones on top. Clearly the USA would have never been anything of what it is today without the Black Americans who also built it from the start, and yet they still treat Black Americans like nothing in the USA.

    What I have found about African Americans when I have travelled to the United States is that there is a tendency to look down on Africa and have a reluctant surprise when you show them what it’s like - for example, the fact that we are developed or show them where and how we live.
    There is a perception that some African Americans have about Africa that they are happy to have so that they can say to themselves, ‘At least I am not African’. They don’t make an effort to know about more about the continent.
    On the other hand you have those who are extremely curious about Africa and have a genuine and profound love for it. Although you also have some who think that when they are here they are doing us a favour and we can only learn from them and there is nothing they can learn from us. But they often quickly realise that there is a lot for them to learn.
    There is also a distinct difference between those who have travelled and those who have not. They are a lot more open and I appreciate them. Those who have travelled are much more open and are friendlier.
    Strangely, when I am in the United States, I find it a lot easier to interact with people of other races instead of African Americans which is rather disappointing.

      I think it has a lot to do with the people from the continent that they've interacted with before and also the knowledge that some of them are warned not to associate with Black Americans when they get to the states. I see it as a defense mechanism. I was actually shocked to find out that they think we don't like them and call them names.

      @tyali84 Год назад +12

      I concur Khaya. I am South African based in the USA and I have found it way easier to befriend and interact with other races as African Americans are not as embracing. The few one's that were open minded are those who have traveled thus more aware of the reality around the world. Mind you my ex husband is African American but I found that even his family were unwilling to be objective and unlearn preconceived ideas about the continent and its people.

    South Africa and USA have a lot in common, beside that in SA we were raised by American content, from music to tv series and movies. We know and understand them through movies and there's nothing suprising about someone of a different culture and norms. SA is a diverse country it caters for everyone unless you're trying to stand out negatively like doing crime and all that. We easily vibe with all types of ppl.... like you heard the other guys said we have Zimbabwean, Mozambicans, Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland, and other neighboring countries we have adapted to having all kinds of cultures, people and open minded to international lifestyles. But we are very protective.

    I am from Eritrea, but moved to Europe at the age of 16. When I was in Eritrea, if we see any foreigner who came from other country (except Ethiopia), we use to think of them as rich, celebrity, nice, fun... we want to befriend them. If any foreigner came to our school, they use to get so popular, it doesn't matter if they are black/white/brown. In our country we don't know what's black/white/racism/race, we have never thought about it (never!), although bright skin is considered beauty in my country, there is no discrimination, religion/culture/tribe can be important though during marriage. We don't have internet in our country so we have no awareness of racism, we don't know that our black sisters/brothers are suffering racism by white people in other country everyday. We have TV but we only see the good/nice side of America (movies/channels). I only knew the true side of Europe when i move out my country.

      My dear, you are not being honest. There's a lot of Ethiopians in South Africa and most of them think they're better than Africans. There's even a video here on RUclips of an Ethiopian young man who believes Ethiopians are white and that they only look black because their faces got burnt. The weirdest and funniest thing I've ever heard, but someone must've taught him that 😂
