Ok, for anyone unable to find their template in the edit page like me: 1. That "Show folder" is very weird. Sometimes it doesn't seem to be able to take you to that specific folder and sometimes it seems to generate a folder when you use it. 2. It apparently REALLY matters where exactly you place your templates. The Fusion page and the Edit page don't seem to look at all the same locations for templates. You will only find your templates in that location in the edit page if you place your templates (or the folder of templates) in the folder whos path ends with "Templates\Edit\Effects". For me, it worked once I moved my .setting files into this directory: C:\Users\ReplaceThisWithYourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates\Edit\Effects\MyEffects I have created the last folder called "MyEffects" and you of course have to replace the "ReplaceThisWithYourUsername" in the path.
My God, man. You are a miracle worker. I've downloaded a bunch of tutorials on making various effects, etc. Now I can turn them into presets!! Thanks a zillion, Alex. You're the BEST!
The only thing I would Add to this video is to tell EVERYONE DO NOT TRY TO CREATE A FUSION PRESET IF YOUR ANIMATION IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A CLIP AS RESOLVE SAVES THE EXACT KEYFRAMES, MAKE SURE YOU TURN THE CLIP INTO A NEW FUSION CLIP AND THAT THE KEYFRAMES AT THE BOTTOM ARE AT ZERO. I cant describe how defeated I feel right now I created 20 presets which are completely useless soi please dont do the same
I’ve made a custom title in fusion from scratch. Several text with different options, merged, then this merges merged to a background bar. I was losing my mind getting that saved correctly to be available in any project. You showing this just made it so clear and simple. *THANK YOU*
Man are you a breath of relief. I started using DR because my system doesn't support PPro but I was having second thoughts since not many big youtubers use it and I it's quite daunting to learn how to achieve the same effects on fusion like you do on AE.

I'd love to see an option to mark more than one control when creating a macro. Or "select all" button there. If you miss one control you'd like to keep when creating the macro then it's not so easy to correct this.

I am a serious noob at this video editing thing but I did find how to create macros and made a fusion effect for the start of my youtube videos. I found that if I had a clip at the start of my video that I had trimmed at the beginning then the macro, when applied to that trimmed clip would also be trimmed and try as I might, I could not get the full length of my macro to work. It was fine if I didn't trim the clip. I am sure that there is something I am doing wrong but I have to say I gave up on macros and started using power bins instead. Your video is giving me the confidence to try this out again :) Thanks
I vastly prefer saving as a group instead of macro... For the simple reason that... I tend to f up things. So with groups I can go back into fusion, open the group. Ungroup it to get the original nodes back and do my corrections before saving again as groups. :) With regular macro-saving, it just shows up as a single normal node and I have not found a way to really decompose it back to its original nodes. Which makes iteration much harder if I decide to modify it months/years down the line, or I just need to remember how I did that one really clever thing and implement it in another project without all the other clever things in the macro.
If youve saved as a macro. Simply locate the settings file, open it up in notepad or any text editor and change the word Macro to Group (i think it’s the second or third line down!) save and its an editable group again :) Best of both worlds!
@MrAlexTech I save to a new folder in Templates which immediately shows up in Fusion Effects but even after restarting Davinci the folder doesn't show up on the edit page? Any suggestions?
Answer: when you use Fusion, the mind remembers the prefix CON, taking the mind to CONFUSION. Ergo, the very sound of the word FUSION is terrifying to some. Did that work for you? J/K 🎃
I feel that saving out a Settings file is much easier when you have multiple nodes involved. This approach is not only easy but you have the added benefit of adding other effects should you decide to do so. I would even combine that strategy with Adjustment Clips and save those in the Power Bins area. Macros are a bit time consuming.
Hey hey! I personally like the edit controls of a macro but yeah I agree, they are time consuming. If you save as a group, you can then always drop the file back into fusion though.

Late to the party but i figured out is because the folder "title" isn't created. And maybe davinci cannot create it because it requires Admin access If you create it manually : "Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Fusion\Templates\Edit\Titles" then "show folder" works, and the addition of your custom titles too

What is the difference between saving as Setting vs. Macro? Is Macro only for Effects which are applied to specific objects? And Settings its the entire template?
Macro allows you to select properties which are then available to you from the edit page! Where as settings file doesnt. But, when you open an existing Macro and then re-save it as a new Settings file (as demonstrated in the video). It maintains the front end controls of the original Macro. Hope that makes sense!
Informative, its good.. tried out a bit..saving as a zip.. then drfx didnt work as other "channels" suggested to save as macro etcetera...this makes me at least see my own template inside DR now. Actually I am typing this more to say.. u do a great work in explaining stuff.. the levels are different but in the end I catched up more or less... In addition to simply creating presets, it would also be nice to see how to create a new effect independently--i.e., without relying on any of the currently installed effects. For example, if you download an effect from Envato, it's just a .dra file that requires you to open a new project and copy things to a project in which you want to use that effect. But how can we create an effect from a .dra file so that it can be used in any project anytime without going through that burdensome copy and paste process? This video seems to get close to answering that, but you right clicked on a preexisting effect to create the new one of the same type. Is it also possible to create an effect directly from right-clicking a media-in node (using settings, save as) using your file location storing method here?

Hey Alex, when you explain something in Davinci (even in Fusion!) then all of a sudden it seems really easy! Great!! 🎉 But what do you do when you stop using certain effects? Where do you find these files to delete them? What is the name of the corresponding folder?
Just in case someone elses computer is a bit dumb at times like mine and you can't seem to find any of the folders...... method 1. Restart Davinci and try again. method 2. open the "show folders" and click the templates install to reinstall the templates and try again but this time when you hover to open the "show folders" make sure it says Davinci Resolve > SUPPORT > Templates > Edit.... hope this helps so you won't spend an extra hour hunting file locations like I did XD
I have Tried the OpenFX method for Blanking fill, but "Zoom mode" is not working as it should (Stretch To Timeline, Zoom To Timeline) and I need to switch to Manual to make it work properly. Also "Folders" in effect like Source, Fill Extend, Fill Appearance, Drop Shadow, Global Blend are gone, everything is there, but unorganized:/ Anyway thanks a lot for amazing tutorial!

Heyyy! Good questions actually, I don't believe so. Most of the audio effects do have an option to save as a preset though built into them. Which are you using?!
@@MrAlexTech Mostly fades on monologue presentation with many *correction* cuts (ah's, or a phrase or sentence reconstruct on recorded livestreams) - I've used preconstructed adjustment clips, but not sure if the audio adjustments are included. Thanks!

How do you export your video with that great quality to youtube? I record videos at 4k and then when edit them and upload to youtube, they look really low quality, my settings on davinci are... resolution 3840 x 2160 timeline and use quick export, so my videos look great quality on my laptop but low quality once upload them to youtube. How to upload great quality to youtube please?
I dont have the folders or the options you do when right clicking on Titles. There's no option to "show folder" at all.. and the \Support\Fusion\Templates directory is empty
To anyone having trouble with getting your templates with showing up on davinci resolve edit page : 1. Open windows explorer type -> %AppData% in the bar 2. When it opens go to -> BlackMagic Design -> DaVinci Resolve -> Support -> Fusion -> Templates 3. If no Edit folder create one and open it. 4. Create Titles folder, and paste your custom template file in it -> It should now show up under titles tab in davinci resolves edit page I did this on Windows 10, I don't know if it'd work for windows 11

So I’ve encountered a problem! If you apply your custom pre set effect to an image than apply a transition the transform settings get locked to default even if you change them the image won’t be effected. Does anyone know a fix????
Hi guys can anyone help me, im pulling my hair out, and not sure what im doing wrong, i keep watching loads of videos and get close but then another problem arises - What I am trying to do is have an iphone on the screen to the left and on the iphone it will play videos or have screen shots etc, whilst the rest of the screen will have another video, so on the basis it sounds straightforward but i must be using the wrong type of picture or something - so i have a png which has the iphone with a green screen and i do all the stuff in fusion and i can kind of get what i want but when i go back to the edit screen, the phone is ok but then has black all around it which is covering the video below, i have tried Alex's video tips about using alpha and foreground but that does not seem to work as the iphone screen is within the iphone frame and then the alpha or foreground covers the whole phone, when all i want is the screen to change - I use to be a Final Cut pro user and it would be easy to just build a drop zone and add and change pictures on the fly, but cant find an easy solution - Hey and if you are interested i know a tip that can get you all the Davinci Resolve Tabs on your IPAD -
I couldn't get 18.5 to show me the folders so I just put my created fusion title in a power bin. Hopefully that will allow me to see the title in other projects.

Hey Alex, I tried following your tut, but when I go into fusion and start playing with a title I can’t do anything. The reason is there is a clock that seems to be contested with the display and it runs continuously counting down. Please help

How do you export your video with that great quality to youtube? I record videos at 4k and then when edit them and upload to youtube, they look really low quality, my settings on davinci are... resolution 3840 x 2160 timeline and use quick export, so my videos look great quality on my laptop but low quality once upload them to youtube. How to upload great quality to youtube please?
Can i go with the “save as” function for openfx templates instead of macros?
I dont have the folders or the options you do when right clicking on Titles. There's no option to "show folder" at all.. and the \Support\Fusion\Templates directory is empty
can you tell how to quick extend (for ex. from 5m to 1h) any clip, like the one you've just created?
To anyone having trouble with getting your templates with showing up on davinci resolve edit page :
1. Open windows explorer type -> %AppData% in the bar
2. When it opens go to -> BlackMagic Design -> DaVinci Resolve -> Support -> Fusion -> Templates
3. If no Edit folder create one and open it.
4. Create Titles folder, and paste your custom template file in it -> It should now show up under titles tab in davinci resolves edit page
I did this on Windows 10, I don't know if it'd work for windows 11

So I’ve encountered a problem! If you apply your custom pre set effect to an image than apply a transition the transform settings get locked to default even if you change them the image won’t be effected. Does anyone know a fix????

Hi guys can anyone help me, im pulling my hair out, and not sure what im doing wrong, i keep watching loads of videos and get close but then another problem arises - What I am trying to do is have an iphone on the screen to the left and on the iphone it will play videos or have screen shots etc, whilst the rest of the screen will have another video, so on the basis it sounds straightforward but i must be using the wrong type of picture or something - so i have a png which has the iphone with a green screen and i do all the stuff in fusion and i can kind of get what i want but when i go back to the edit screen, the phone is ok but then has black all around it which is covering the video below, i have tried Alex's video tips about using alpha and foreground but that does not seem to work as the iphone screen is within the iphone frame and then the alpha or foreground covers the whole phone, when all i want is the screen to change - I use to be a Final Cut pro user and it would be easy to just build a drop zone and add and change pictures on the fly, but cant find an easy solution - Hey and if you are interested i know a tip that can get you all the Davinci Resolve Tabs on your IPAD -

Help, I Cant See My Template On The Library
I couldn't get 18.5 to show me the folders so I just put my created fusion title in a power bin. Hopefully that will allow me to see the title in other projects.
Got it to work. Onedrive was causing issues.
