This song is criminally underrated. It makes so so many interesting musical choices without any pretention. And it maintained so much intricacy without sacrificing the lightness and fun.
The editing for this video is actually top notch. The part where you had Kevin on the screen to say "I like her voice" and then dropped him away to let Lily and Cat continue their conversation, that was clever. Also I love how Real Nmixx fans don't say "Nmixx," we say "~Nmiiixx~" like they do in O.O haha! Both you and Kevin did it and I do that too, that's literally just how their name sounds in my head.
pretty interesting that you guys pointed out the bossanova inspired ending... this song reminds me of the 90's shibuya-kei movement in japan, a lot of which was an amalgam of acid jazz, garage house and bossanova... check out fantastic plastic machine and shinichi osawa... i bet they were a direct influence on this song
lol when this song came out it send me on an absolute rabbithole making a playlist of kpop songs that were super jazzy, house-y, and city pop-y....there's a TON of overlap with all those genres in kpop, gwsn has a few songs like that! i looked up fantastic plastic machine and loved what i heard so i'm definitely gonna look more into both those bands, thank you for the recommendation!! beautiful days by fpm reminded me of bike 09 by the peppertones, a k-indie song from 2009 and some clazziquai project haha
It's interesting to me how on a frontfacing level Roller Coaster seems safe, but to hear that it actually has musically dark tones combined with light tones kinda feels very NMIXX-ey. And most folks were saying this wasn't NMIXX style haha!

This song should've entered the top 5 in korean music charts. This song is actually good for the gp to like but once this was released, I was schocked how kpop stans decided to hate this song because its "not nmixx" when their b-sides has always been different to their title tracks.
Because it is a trend to hate on nmixx and Nmixx's music. People love more groups that can bearly sing, but they love to hate on groups that can actually sing and deliver a good performance every time.
Whoever said that this song wasn't NMIXX or it wasn't MIXXPOP have no idea what they're talking about. This reaction down what and which musical styles and influences were used in the song. I'm a musician myself and I listen to all kinds of music, so it was easy for me to recognize that rollercoaster was still MIXXPOP. People thought it wasn't MIXXPOP because there was no "change up". NMIXX's MIXXPOP is not only mixing different genres, but it's mixing different music styles, structure, and influences from other "genres". Their complaints simply shows that they either have questionable taste in music, or they only listen to music that pretty much sounds like everything else, generic... For a lack of words.

I've been waiting my ass off for this reaction. This and "Party O Clock" were literally the first NMIXX songs where I could finally buy into the hype, and I haven't looked back since. I feel like these two tracks are the group's first coherent songs, where they just get to unfold their talents without having to be try hards. None of that goofy unwarrented beat-switchup, trying to be bad asses, attempting to reinvent the wheel, or having token belting sections. We just get to see how well they mesh together and that they are incredible talents. The production is unpretentious but still interesting and full of inspiration from the 90's EU electronica and club scene. I really hope you guys find time to do "Party O Clock" and "Soñar" as well. Also, shoutout to Danica for the Pat Metheny name drop. That warmed my heart.

As a musician myself, I think NMIXX has the unique, yet intricate sound not only in kpop but in music as a whole at the moment. Not only that, but all the members are very talented, skilled, and their vocal techniques are almost flawless. They have really perfected their craft and their artistry. All the choices they make musically are so tastefully chosen and perfectly executed. I know they have a lot of haters. But I do think that mostly because of pre conceived notions from their debut song o.o . What people didn't and continue to refuse to realize is that o.o was literally a teaser, by concept and lyrically.
