It was just worn out. It was the favorite of the D&RGW crews so it was used a lot from the mid to late-60s up until its retirement in the mid-70s. There really has been no demand in recent years to completely rebuild the thing when they already have 6 operational locomotives. Even though most are in need of repair now, it's better than having a full on rebuild when small problems can be fixed.

Anybody know exactly why C&TS took 483 (which just so happens to be the locomotive on their logo) out of service and never returned her to service?
