I remember these hearings, which culminated with the final "peace treaty" in 1978. Russell Means fought for the rights of Native Americans until he died. The term "Indians" should be done away with because Columbus misidentified the indigenous people of the Caribbean and Americas when he arrived in 1492. The only "Indians" live in the country of India and throughout parts of Asia. The Native Americans struggle for independence continues 528 years after the first European invasion.
