I think Daniel is the most honest when he talks about how implicated the Jewish diaspora is in the Zionist project…how everyone wants to say it was not in their name. But we all have to look deeply at how we go along with larger narratives. As a Canadian of European descent, I have to face the fact that my very lifestyle has ‘profited’ hugely from the complete erasure of another people. It might not have been a direct pulling of the trigger but I am complicit in that I don’t even make the effort to appreciate the richness of that great culture and how it could in turn enrich my own. I’m all the poorer for that.
I feel the same as an American. I love native and medicinal plants and grieve over the loss of the wisdom and company we weren't permitted. Until we collectively address what other's suffered for our lives of privilege, we won't be able to heal.
Klein is brillant. I listened to the book and it gets better and better as it goes along, like subjects coming into focus and then being seen so clearly. The part in Israel and the history of Zionism is fascinating. Very generous but ultimately very clear about the darkness at its heart.
Naomi Klein is so goddamn smart. I remember reading No Logo back when I was 20 and getting my mind blown by the coherence of her thesis and how apparent she made everything. Same here. Great guest.
