    Neighbor Peg said my dog Nitro looked abused and was considering reporting me to the local dog warden. We just had been chukar hunting the last four days. I challenged Pegs dog Whiffer (he was wide enough for two full sized dinner plates to rest level on his back) to a race around the neighborhood. Peg learned that chukar dogs are super athletes that day, no matter how beat up they appear. Thanks for a nice video guys!

    Checkers are native to Pakistan and neighbouring countries. We have a few here in Ontario but not really a hunt-able population. I have only seen one in 20 years of hunting grouse in Ontario.

    I just ate a chukar tonight, I would recommend just going with chicken, could not tell a difference and the effort involved was way more than the quantity of food in my opinion

    A tip for chukar hunting:
    When cubby flies away, get yourself to the place of that cubby ASAP where some of them are still there.

    Difficulty of terrain is not what makes the hunting experience. That’s why more people hunt outside the west. Too much effort for too little gain.

    Having trouble understand the lack of success? Is that you hunted easily accessible areas for the show and it resulted in having to hunt pressured birds? The show gives the impression that chukar hunting is hard work with little success. I'm an avid chukar hunter and don't deny the hard work., for it's about the hardest hunting you can do, even compared to sheep and goat hunting. But, and not trying to brag, the hard work and rotating hunt areas and good dogs, results in limits for me 99 percent of the time. I've never seen a TV show depict how good chukar hunting really can be. Just looking for more realism.

    • @benwarner8995
      @benwarner8995 3 года назад +1

      Lol at limits 99% of the time. And how many days a season do you go after chukar?

    • @paulschmidt5390
      @paulschmidt5390 3 года назад

      @@benwarner8995 I breed and train German Shorthairs and shoot about 150 chukar a year. I hunt about 80 percent of the time on public land and a few on private or through private access to public. I know several avid chukar dudes that shoot more than me. It's not uncommon.

    • @benwarner8995
      @benwarner8995 3 года назад

      @@paulschmidt5390 I can believe the 150 count especially if you have been doing it for a while and have plenty of areas that produce birds. Just hard for me to believe that anyone that goes out more than a dozen times in a season will limit out 99% of the time, especially when you consider all the things that can happen out there.

    • @paulschmidt5390
      @paulschmidt5390 3 года назад

      @@benwarner8995 Guess I shouldn't have even made a comment, but I've never seen tv show or segment that shows how good chukar hunting can be. I have 45 years experience, lot of spots, don't over hunt the flocks, etc... Chukar are actually very predictable birds once you learn how to hunt them and have good dogs hold them for you. It's been several years since I didn't get a limit in a day of hunting. There are tons of birds on public ground and I kill myself chasing them. There's nothing better.

    • @benwarner8995
      @benwarner8995 3 года назад

      @@paulschmidt5390 I for one am glad you commented. It’s my prob if I believe your success rate or not, ultimately. I agree it’s such a rarity to see any shows on here with much shooting action on birds but I think a lot of it is how hard it is to get a cameraman lugging a 40 lb camera and batteries through that kind of terrain and get good footage so maybe they tend to go to the areas with easier access and gentler terrain.
      I’ve had a good deal of success hunting chukar although I am fairly new to western hunting and like you, I try not to quit until I get at least six in a day. I could use another dog, however.
