If you leave behind the film styling and music, and concentrate on the content, it is amazing that in less than 15 minutes, a very new class of vehicle was completely explained... just everything about it and its conception, and the way it is and why... even the use of the central-diff, every thing is cleary explain... Very remarkable...

Thanks for sharing this iconic vehicle that would be remembered always and passed on for generations , I consider Charles Spencer King is the most genius man to ever design an SUV like the Range Rover!!!

Still with open diff front and back and just centre locker. BFG Muddies 31" and sensible driving gets me everywhere the 4"lifted and Locked 105 went.
love my piece of history and will still be using and abusing it in 20 years (30 years ownership by then).

for muddy/ icey inclines you need to deflate the tires into 1.5-1.0 bar and drive with center-diff locked, low-range in the highest gear possible (2end or thired) without stalling the engine. in addition to lil bit of momentum.

Notice please that the film was made for The Rover Company Ltd. The Range Rover was a Rover invention. Land Rover as a company didn't exist until 1978. People tend to forget that

Jeep Wagoneer, Toyota Land Cruiser J55 & the Range Rover had the same concept of market approach. 4x4 capabilities combined with passenger comfort & practicality. They hailed from USA, Japan and UK respectively launched in 1962, 1967 and 1969 respectively. While all the 3 vehicles had body-on-frame construction, longitudinal front engine & live axles, the Range Rover had an all-aluminum engine, full-time 4x4, all-round coil springs & 4-wheel disc brakes instead of an all-iron engine, part-time 4x4, all-round leaf springs & 4-wheel drum brakes.

I've never understood how they make such muddy/ icey inclines look soo easy!! I have owned heaps of them with serious mud tyres and they never do it like that, let alone when brand new with pie cutter tyres.
Either the cameras tilted or gods giving them a push!

I think they cross a bridge to Anglesey. Then that little bridge over the fast flowing river looked like the River Dee at Llangollen but it's years since I was over that way. One street reminded me of Kinver in Staffordshire, whilst I suspect the wooden framed houses were one of the "Black and white villages" in Herefordshire. All places that are within a couple of hours drive of Sollihull. Wherever they are I want to live there; no traffic and ample parking!

I got a chance to sit in that driveable chassis and have my photo taken. I also saw it being driven around silver-stone as well. Made my day 🙂

poor engine and driveline but great body, which was modular, until 1986 when they just welded it as a one piece body to save money presumably, then there was no reason to buy one when you could buy a Patrol or Landcruiser or something else more fuel efficient and reliable. They seem to have done something similar with the new 'Defender' which completely lost its sense of identity.
