Thank you. I have heard from some that have had the shift and others that have not. No big deal - I love me EF version..... and the Laowa too. That one is super sharp. I have to say the old EF L lens are pretty rugged. I have dropped and they keep on going!! Heart wrenching when i happens though. 🙏🤗❤
I love my RF 100. It is focus by wire so I can see how if you manually focus only it might be tricky. I don't see any focus shift at all. You made several beautiful images.
Thank you Phil!!! I use both manual and auto all the time and I wish I had tried on the R5. All I was thinking about was macro on the crop sensor. Thank you , thank you Phil!! 🤗💖🙏
Trevor, I am glad it works for you. I prefer my old EF version - it works better for me. I shoot in both manual focus and auto focus and the throw on the old EF feels shorter - same with the Laowa. As an apo lens, the Laowa is more demanding and that focus ring works better for me. If I were shooting portraits, it might be a great lens, but I would not shoot those with a 100mm. I wouldn't shoot an event with a 100mm either. I found the auto focus FOR ME, and using it as a macro lens, to be spotty and problematic. Shooting with that lens for two days, I was surprised at how little I was happy with and how little I kept. If you see reviews about the back focus, I had it all over the place even in manual focus that should have been pin sharp per the zoom and peaking. Glad it works for you - it could have just been the copy I had that was a problem. Thank you Trevor!! 💖🤗🙏

MrDvaz!!!! No worries - that is one thing I really love about photography, art, music, cycling..... We all have preferences and things that work for our own style. I did not like the SA ring either. I will rent that lens again at some point and try it again, but it is rare for me to not to like a lens right off. Many like it, many don't. For me right now, the EF version works amazingly well and so does the EF version of the Laowa 100 2/1 for macro. Thank you, thank you MrDvaz!!! 🤗🙏💖

Rui 777!!! What I have noticed is a dramatic difference depending on the lens and aperture. And what I mean by that is, F5.6 on the RF 100-400 is WAY darker than the base F6.3 at 600 on the Sigma contemporary lens. I have also motived that I do not like the images at over about 500 ISO - like an older DLSR. Great camera and since what I really got it was macro at an ISO of 200, it works well. I shoot anywhere between F9 and F13 with no problems. And...... I crop!!! 🙏🤗💖
I have this lens and the rf100-400mm. The longer lens can focus down to 3 ft distance and comfortably fill the frame with insects and dragonflies and butterflies. I often don't even need the macro lens to get beautiful close-ups. I will use the rf100mm mostly for extreme Macro like bugs faces.

Great video John! From your macro shots, I like the EF version best on the R7. Although all were shot at same aperture the EF lens looks sharper and the images really pop!
Thank you Bill!!! Yeah, I am really happy with the EF version as well. Manually, I can instantly find focus either using the zoom on the button I have set for that, or focus peaking. For ME, even when I used that method with the RF, the focus was off or shifted. I can say that is a lens I will not be buying. The Laowa and the EF give me all I want. I was so unhappy with the RF shots that I hardly had enough to put in the video. When I stopped showing them, I was out. I have r7 and rf 100mm macro lens. I can't take the photos I want or I can't.. I can't adjust the focal width. it is very narrow. Is this because of the aps-c sensor?
Well if you are taking macro photos, then yes. When you are super close to a subject for macro F11 is a good place to start. Although it seems like F/2.8 would let in more light, the small focal plain becomes almost useless..... for macro Slow shutter speed and a low ISO with a flash freezes the motion. Many also stack images if they can get more than one, but for me - I am a purest and like to just take one shot and present the best one I have. F/11, shutter speed of 1/160th and adjust your flash. Use a diffuser and it will get you in the ball park. The AF on the R7 is awesome so I use that a lot, but I also use manual focus using peaking too. I hope this helps! 🙏🤗❤
Awesome. Maybe I am just used to that lens, but I think it works for me and I am happy with what the EF give me. I would tell people to just adapt it and it will work perfectly!! I am finding all the older EF lenses work perfectly!!! Thank you J. Kimmer! 🤗💖🙏

Andy, it was a rental and they checked it when it got back to them so I am going to say no. For me, I just did not like the images I was getting compared to my EF version. I have had comments and watched other reviews that say about the same thing. Some love it, others like me prefer the EF version. Nothing is perfect and what works for one person does not for another. 🙏❤🤗

I just used my new RF 100mm macro for the first time today on fall leaves / colors. I was excited about all of the potentially great shots I captured! However, after reviewing on my MacBook I was sooo disappointed to see such soft focus pics with not much in focus, or just too soft for me. Use a diffuser and it will get you in the ball park. The AF on the R7 is awesome so I use that a lot, but I also use manual focus using peaking too. I hope this helps! 🙏🤗❤
I also prefer the use of the EF 100mm Macro i have the Meike drop in ND or Polarize adapter...it's a fantastic combo.
Awesome. Maybe I am just used to that lens, but I think it works for me and I am happy with what the EF give me. I would tell people to just adapt it and it will work perfectly!! I am finding all the older EF lenses work perfectly!!! Thank you J. Kimmer! 🤗💖🙏
What flash diffuser is that?
Andrew! The flash is a Godox that I LOVE - ruclips.net/video/HaJPeQKAyXg/видео.html and the diffusers are cheap ones from Amazon. I have tried so many set ups and this is one that works for me. This flash battery last forever and has a modeling light as well. Seriously - these are cheap from Amazon - they work!! Thank you Andrew. 🤗💖🙏
Do you think you just got bad copy of rf100.
@@JonnyPink65 im sending mine back. As prime lens its awsome and sharp. As macro using autofocus its bloody useless. Goes back wed for refund. I bought sigma 150mm macro to see how that works
@@andysmith1595 Andy, I get it. I think the EF version works way better and I use the autofocus quite a bit. 🙏❤🤗
I just used my new RF 100mm macro for the first time today on fall leaves / colors. I was excited about all of the potentially great shots I captured! However, after reviewing on my MacBook I was sooo disappointed to see such soft focus pics with not much in focus, or just too soft for me. I can’t even get the SA ring to move, perhaps my error but I probably wouldn’t use it anyway. I might give this lens one more try tomorrow but will send it back if the shots aren’t sharper. Thank you for your video and honest option. (I’m glad I didn’t sell my old EF 100mm macro yet!)
