That's... actually a really good idea. Ever since the Future Trunks arc ended, I felt like the solution they came up with was not that good and felt like it was more complicated than just staying in the timeline we're familiar with.
It seems more Toriyama wanted to get rid of Future Trunks because of the Tournament of Power. Because if he actually stayed, everyone would be asking why isn't he in the tournament and Toriyama clearly had plans for other characters.
@@okagron A good point. Not to mention that the Tournament wouldn't have been as dangerous and hectic if there was another strong character like Trunks fighting with the Team Universe 7
A better fix would have been to introduce the Supreme Kai Of Time into the canon universe. Make Future Mai and Future Trunks into time patrollers while adding more lore to the world of the Kais.
I kinda feel like this was the perfect time to bring the Supreme Kai Of Time into the anime/manga having the two becoming time patrollers for her. A real missed opportunity to introduce a good character in some way.
Let's just say that this would've been *WAY* better than what we got in canon (Future Trunks and Future Mai being sent to another future timeline where they presumably live out the rest of their lives as hermits)...
Well, you never know. We all thought Trunks wasn't coming back after Cell, so don't let them fool you twice. Of course, I don't write for Toei, and it took over a decade for Trunks to come back, so even if he (and a second Trunks) come back, it may take a long time.
Future Trunks and Mai are two of my favorite characters and I don't want to believe that Toei would do them that dirty, but Super hasn't instilled a lot of faith
@Gwenpool if that were the case, Goku would have a transformation/ability/technique to utilize magic at will, as Superman is not resistant against it. So, no I don’t.

@@blairbuskirk5460 I wouldn't say they're the only ones. A lot of big media companies do. ViacomCBS is another notorious offender. That being said, if you own the setting you technically own anything set in that setting by proxy, but only because you own the setting. A company can C&D someone for using their setting without permission, but they can't then pursue legal action (well, technically they could but it would get thrown out of court) if the person separates the idea from the setting, reworks what they were working on to be set in their own unique setting and continues work from there.
@Lakers fan Power/strength isn't everything. Skills, abilities, and strategies still hold. I mean in the Tournament of Power even if counting the silly parts did show even people like Roshi was not only still capable, but vital. Piccolo in terms of technique and fighting skill was on par with Goku even when the power gap became an ocean difference. So Piccolo could still be a major asset to Gohan and Trunks. Remember Piccolo did help Gohan learn how to access his Ultimate Form once more in Super while brushing up his martial arts. That and Piccolo even with said lower power has perfected and made many techniques that can be passed to both Gohan and Trunks.
@Lakers fan Also if Piccolo wanted to get stronger in Ki and power there are some quick avenues to slightly shorten the gap if he swallowed his own pride. Getting his potential unlocked by Elder Kai or at least the New Guru since he hasn't done either. Also actually learn Kaioken. Obviously even with both he wouldn't magically be in the same power scale as the Saiyans outside the kids. It would though likely make him near Freeza before Golden Form from Resurrection F. Not Freeza during Tournament of Power though. That is also counting training with Gohan and Trunks which would mean a much more powerful version of both while being much better fighters. Maybe by Tournament of Power in said hypothetical that Piccolo would be at Full Power Freeza Resurrection F without Golden, Trunks would be at or above Freeza Golden Form during Tournament with a SSJ 2 Rage Mode, and Gohan with a perfect Ultimate mode would be equal to slightly better Goku SSGSS Perfect without Kaioken.

Dude. I could totally see Future Trunks and Present Gohan as good friends and sparring partners. They could totally feed off of each other. Trunks keeps Gohan on the fitness regiment, and Gohan helps Trunks relax and learn about daily life.

I feel like it’d be more interesting if trunks became depressed and regretting not being strong enough to save his timeline. It’ll be more interesting to have him go through a negative change arc and be ruthless against enemies. When the TOP is announced, trunks can ask if he can use the Super Dragonballs to restore his timeline and life within it (excluding Zamasu). The grand priest says yes and he becomes motivated to restore his timeline and willing to sacrifice the other universes to do so. It’ll be great character development as 17 (ironically) will try to convince trunks to be more compassionate after seeing his ruthlessness in the TOP.
MasakoX Quite. As a small suggestion, maybe change up the Universe 7 team beyond just making Frieza’s spot Trunks’. Trunks going in having specialized with a ki sword would be amazing, but maybe we can switch out who comes in when. Tien seems to get the raw end of the deal, and it would be nice to see HIM develop the 100x Solar Flare and some of his old moves, instead of just making him the red shirt.
@@MasakoX idea for the Tournament of Power: Future Trunks goes makes his own rattag team during the tournament to g aginst everyone. why and how so? during the tournament, just when it looks like Universe 10 gets erased, Trunks saves the last universe 10 member (or a member of your choice). After all trunks could have realized a loophole: if there is at least 1 member of every universe by the end, it ends on a draw and nobody gets erased. and that way, everyone lives even if he isn't strong enough to defeat Jiren. imagine Future Trunks making his ragtag team out of the other 6 universes. and knowing that, he would need to either be the last man stading of unvierse 7 for his plan to work, or that the last universe 7 member must be someone who could agree to his plan. it could be interesting drama. and just imagine everyone's reactions at the idea. just imagine universe 10's reaction at seeing future trunks save them by grabbing or hiding their last member. or imagine the grand priest or the zeno-sama's reactions. Also, it actually lets the other universes shine more (or at least one member. and keep the other universes long enough to see the tournament unfold) and maybe even have that "ragtag team" be the one to defeat Jiren. it would be even inspiring to see future turnk technically uniting the universes for the goal of surviving.

How about those: What if Raditz was LSSJ What if Ozaruu wrath form was accesable by all Sayians What if Broly was sent to Namek What if King kai tought fusion dance What if Goku and Vegeta were born as Vegito (somehow) What if Beerus dreamt of LSSJ instead of SSG
Dragonball: Days of Future Past Well, I like the idea, but at the end you'd have another character relegated to the background (Future Mai) and another character that's not Goku or Vegeta, and therefore largely ignored in terms of any type of arcs (Future Trunks).

@@thecod2345 I think he didn't enter the ToP because A) Then they'd have to replace a team member and that's just asking for a fight between fans, so it's easier to write him out for now, B) he doesn't get his sword, and C) what Accursed Sidor said. I mean what would he even do, take some victories from Gohan, Android 18 & 17? Make U7 eliminate even more fighters despite taking out over half as is? Structurally, there's just too many main characters. They were struggling enough as is to make what they had relevant.

@@SatorisYT I actually like this Idea he sees the pod racing away and decides keeping it is a way to show up his brother while also gaining a pet saiyan like his brother. Goku could even build up a early rivalry with Vegeta whenever they run into each other.
This what if is such a breath of fresh air! It’s a delightful exploration of some of our favourite characters and them trying to make the best out of a rough situation. I’d love to see how this develops!
Honestly, I always felt like the alternate future erasure thing was a set-up for Future Trunks and Mai to become permanent members of the main cast, so to me, this scenario feels way more natural. If I had to guess, there were probably plans to do that in Super proper at one point, but they ducked out at the last minute when they decided that Frieza would be brought back as the 10th member for the Tournament of Power, but they still needed to have both Zen-o, so that's how we ended up with what we got
@@Wexor. nevermind that his point (if grammatically nonsensical) is utterly backwards. Toriyama and the writers have no clue how to write a time travel story. The very idea is discordant with Toriyama's improvisational writing. Stuff just kind of happens that makes no sense, before more stuff that makes no sense.... and so on until you have an entire arc that's basically just a bunch of stitched together plot holes and contrivances.
STRONGLY DISAGREE! Time travel mechanics in DBZ are specifically designed to prevent paradoxes, yet in Super the Zamas that becomes Goku Black meets Goku for the first time when Goku comes to investigate Black. If Goku had never come to investigate Black, Black wouldn't exist, creating a paradox in a system that explicitly prohibits paradoxes.

Saiyan hybrid solidarity for the win. When you mentioned how Trunks was absolutely ROBBED of that win against Zamasu, I actually jumped out of seat and screamed in agreement. Episode 67 did him and Mai wrong.
I can't imagine how awkward it would be living in a future with two Trunks and two Mai. Like, would they form some sort of weird polyamorous uh... "couple"? I guess? Could Future Trunks and Future Trunks learn the fusion technique to become... uh... Trunks? I have so many questions and Super never answered any of them.
I'm just curious if you'll be integrating any of the manga aspects of the Future Trunks Saga into this. Specifically in regards to Trunks and Shin. In the manga, Shin apparently danced around Trunks for an entire day just like Elder Kai did with Gohan. As an acting Supreme Kai, Shin doing this technically put Trunks at "Apprentice Supreme Kai" status, granting him healing powers. I'd be interested in seeing present Shin make Trunks the offer to serve as HIS apprentice, or Trunks' healing powers coming into play in the Tournament of Power, or maybe Gohan asking Elder Kai if any of this "apprentice Supreme Kai" stuff applies to him as well.
Oh yeah, this What-if is very believable. May I suggest going this route if you ever reach this point in time in Dragon Ball R&R? I'm sure one of the two Trunkses would have to change their name to Boxer or Jock (you know, Bulma's family naming traditions, using boxer shorts and jockey as a basis for these names). Kid Trunks would look up to Future Trunks as a big brother.
Would be cool if Bulma reversed engineered Sorbet's ring and applied it to Mai's gun, which Trunks could then charge. Imagine Mai shooting her ppsh with ki blasts instead of bullets...
Please don’t take too long to make part 2 😁 this is great so far! And I can’t wait to find out how this affects the Universe Survival Arc, the Broly movie, and the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc! Keep up the great work Masako, Lord of What Ifs!
I've watched all your what ifs as of the time this comment is being made, and this is my favorite idea. The execution is.going pretty well, too. I want more!
I'm SOOO excited for this what if series!!! I've been talking about this What if FOREVER and now I finally get to see it in action, Masako style!! Can't wait for part 2!
I actually like the Zeno button ending. Yeah, Zamasu was defeated but.... the Dragon Team lost. All that training and plans resulted in a void where a universe used to be. It's really refreshing. Excited for the what if. It's not really brought up in Super but I feel like Gohan has "normal" friends from his academic life and that's part of the reason he gets pulled towards that side so strongly. Since Trunks and Gohan are pretty close in age now, I'm looking forward to them becoming friends. Close like Goten and Trunks but a very different dynamic. Gohan too had a childhood where he basically went to war from age 4-11 so I think they can relate to each other pretty well if Trunks can get his head around the idea that his old master is an equal now. Gohan too will probably benefit a lot from having someone around his age to train with. He's always been in a dominant position (Goten) or subordinate (Piccolo/Goku) but as a rough equal I think he could really into it. Not just the physical aspect but the bouncing ideas about fighting off Trunks. You hinted that at the end of the video so deserved like!
That one was more along the lines of if Trunks couldn't return to the future in the first place. This story is about a different scenario. With the former, it felt like it was a one and done type of thing.
That's narrative faceplant at the end of the story is why I refer to that new timeline as the "replacement goldfish timeline". Definitely agree that there's more potential narratively speaking to have them stay in the main timeline... aside from the fact we know that potential would probably be wasted by Toriyama in canon. So I am really looking forward to seeing what you're going to do with the idea! MasakoX= best Time Patroller, obvs.
I like the idea of the Gohan/Trunks role reversal, great way to expand on that relationship, while also bringing “current” Gohan back to relevance. It’s a very interesting dynamic to explore! Can’t wait for part 2!

This always bothered me so much, like why go back to the future, they would not be able to speak to their friends since they shared the same face as the originals but not the memories, they would have to live in hiding all their life, and then we could have some cool moments with Future Trunks in ToP and its not like Future and Present Trunks are alike besides their face
An interesting start to a new What If series. I'm keen to see what potential power Future Trunks and Gohan will unlock. Of course, it goes without saying that the lineup for the Tournament of Power might not need a certain tyrant currently chilling in HFIL. Oh, and Future Trunks dealing with the present Android 17 and 18!?!
This could seriously have some cool effects on the tournament of power arc, obviously, so i'm definately looking forward to the further installmens of this what if.

Please Please Please do more with this what-if. It is going exactly how I have thought about it since the first episode. They are 2 of my favorite characters of any show or series.
For starters Gohan and Trunks could learn the fusion dance, it requires people of similar bodies and similar power levels, as adult half saiyans they only can do it with each other and considering their past experiences and personalities the warrior born from this fusion wouldn't be as cocky as Gotrenks and Gogeta. It also would be great to see the younger Trunks interacting with him as if he was his older brother (technically he is). Then watch the coming of Bra. Then would come the Tournament of Power Arc, with Trunks there they wouldn't need to recruit Freezer and we could see Trunks feeling awkward with the idea of teaming up with 17 and 18 and him being surprisingly good at it due to his experience fighting them.
I would also like to see how Future Trunks and Future Mai’s relationship will develop later in the future such as them having their own family. That will mean Vegeta and Bulma will meet thier grandchildren sooner.
Can't wait for when Future Trunks comes back again in the main series. I mean we all thought he was gone after Cell, then he came back as the main character for the Saga. You know he's coming back...one day...or year...decade...okay might as well do this while we wait. Also, if they do come back, I imagine the Future Trunks and Mai we know will stay the same, but the "new" Future Trunks and Mai will take on long-hair trunks and Pilaf Gang Mai as adults again.
I've always thought the same. It just made more sense for Trunks and Mai to stay. If they left, they weren't going back to their universe, but someone else's.
Its so simple yet so complex. I'll try to make the round table with this but....."But Masako@@!!!! Gohan is so smart due to inate potential that he should be able to train like piccollo via meditation during his 'homework' days that he should always be able to train after namek." I propose this simple yet complex what if for gohan during the 7 year gap and onward.
A neat thing to note, and from Dragon Ball Fusions, of all things, is that Gohan's assumption in this What-If is correct; Super Saiyan Rage is something of a bridge between Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue. We never actually see it, but there is a DLC scenario wherein we help Future Trunks train and ultimately attain Super Saiyan Blue himself. With him and Gohan training together, and Vegeta taking a much more proactive role as a father figure to both versions of Trunks, it could potentially happen here, too.

I feel like it’d be more interesting if trunks became depressed and regretting not being strong enough to save his timeline.
It’ll be more interesting to have him go through a negative change arc and be ruthless against enemies.
When the TOP is announced, trunks can ask if he can use the Super Dragonballs to restore his timeline and life within it (excluding Zamasu). The grand priest says yes and he becomes motivated to restore his timeline and willing to sacrifice the other universes to do so. It’ll be great character development as 17 (ironically) will try to convince trunks to be more compassionate after seeing his ruthlessness in the TOP.
Ooh, have it be personal stakes motivating the TOP instead of the end of the universes.

As a small suggestion, maybe change up the Universe 7 team beyond just making Frieza’s spot Trunks’. Trunks going in having specialized with a ki sword would be amazing, but maybe we can switch out who comes in when. Tien seems to get the raw end of the deal, and it would be nice to see HIM develop the 100x Solar Flare and some of his old moves, instead of just making him the red shirt.
@@MasakoX idea for the Tournament of Power: Future Trunks goes makes his own rattag team during the tournament to g aginst everyone. why and how so? during the tournament, just when it looks like Universe 10 gets erased, Trunks saves the last universe 10 member (or a member of your choice). After all trunks could have realized a loophole: if there is at least 1 member of every universe by the end, it ends on a draw and nobody gets erased. and that way, everyone lives even if he isn't strong enough to defeat Jiren.
imagine Future Trunks making his ragtag team out of the other 6 universes. and knowing that, he would need to either be the last man stading of unvierse 7 for his plan to work, or that the last universe 7 member must be someone who could agree to his plan.
it could be interesting drama. and just imagine everyone's reactions at the idea. just imagine universe 10's reaction at seeing future trunks save them by grabbing or hiding their last member. or imagine the grand priest or the zeno-sama's reactions.
Also, it actually lets the other universes shine more (or at least one member. and keep the other universes long enough to see the tournament unfold) and maybe even have that "ragtag team" be the one to defeat Jiren. it would be even inspiring to see future turnk technically uniting the universes for the goal of surviving.
@@ianr.navahuber2195 his implied dislike of Xeno could well lead to something like this. Imagine how pissed Future Trunks will be when Goku does a Goku and inadvertently triggers the universe erasing ToP.

Well, I like the idea, but at the end you'd have another character relegated to the background (Future Mai) and another character that's not Goku or Vegeta, and therefore largely ignored in terms of any type of arcs (Future Trunks).

@@thecod2345 I think he didn't enter the ToP because A) Then they'd have to replace a team member and that's just asking for a fight between fans, so it's easier to write him out for now, B) he doesn't get his sword, and C) what Accursed Sidor said. I mean what would he even do, take some victories from Gohan, Android 18 & 17? Make U7 eliminate even more fighters despite taking out over half as is? Structurally, there's just too many main characters. They were struggling enough as is to make what they had relevant.

Honestly, I always felt like the alternate future erasure thing was a set-up for Future Trunks and Mai to become permanent members of the main cast, so to me, this scenario feels way more natural.
If I had to guess, there were probably plans to do that in Super proper at one point, but they ducked out at the last minute when they decided that Frieza would be brought back as the 10th member for the Tournament of Power, but they still needed to have both Zen-o, so that's how we ended up with what we got

@@Wexor. nevermind that his point (if grammatically nonsensical) is utterly backwards. Toriyama and the writers have no clue how to write a time travel story. The very idea is discordant with Toriyama's improvisational writing. Stuff just kind of happens that makes no sense, before more stuff that makes no sense.... and so on until you have an entire arc that's basically just a bunch of stitched together plot holes and contrivances.
I always preferred the multiverse theory, it's a lot easier to write in a story.

Time travel mechanics in DBZ are specifically designed to prevent paradoxes, yet in Super the Zamas that becomes Goku Black meets Goku for the first time when Goku comes to investigate Black. If Goku had never come to investigate Black, Black wouldn't exist, creating a paradox in a system that explicitly prohibits paradoxes.

I can't imagine how awkward it would be living in a future with two Trunks and two Mai. Like, would they form some sort of weird polyamorous uh... "couple"? I guess? Could Future Trunks and Future Trunks learn the fusion technique to become... uh... Trunks? I have so many questions and Super never answered any of them.
I'm just curious if you'll be integrating any of the manga aspects of the Future Trunks Saga into this. Specifically in regards to Trunks and Shin.
In the manga, Shin apparently danced around Trunks for an entire day just like Elder Kai did with Gohan. As an acting Supreme Kai, Shin doing this technically put Trunks at "Apprentice Supreme Kai" status, granting him healing powers. I'd be interested in seeing present Shin make Trunks the offer to serve as HIS apprentice, or Trunks' healing powers coming into play in the Tournament of Power, or maybe Gohan asking Elder Kai if any of this "apprentice Supreme Kai" stuff applies to him as well.
Imagine Mirai Trunks with SSRage in the Tournament of Power.
Oh yeah, this What-if is very believable. May I suggest going this route if you ever reach this point in time in Dragon Ball R&R? I'm sure one of the two Trunkses would have to change their name to Boxer or Jock (you know, Bulma's family naming traditions, using boxer shorts and jockey as a basis for these names). Kid Trunks would look up to Future Trunks as a big brother.

This is where I thought the arc was going when originally watching Super and when it didn't I was so disappointed. So I love this.
I actually like the Zeno button ending. Yeah, Zamasu was defeated but.... the Dragon Team lost. All that training and plans resulted in a void where a universe used to be. It's really refreshing.
Excited for the what if. It's not really brought up in Super but I feel like Gohan has "normal" friends from his academic life and that's part of the reason he gets pulled towards that side so strongly. Since Trunks and Gohan are pretty close in age now, I'm looking forward to them becoming friends. Close like Goten and Trunks but a very different dynamic. Gohan too had a childhood where he basically went to war from age 4-11 so I think they can relate to each other pretty well if Trunks can get his head around the idea that his old master is an equal now. Gohan too will probably benefit a lot from having someone around his age to train with. He's always been in a dominant position (Goten) or subordinate (Piccolo/Goku) but as a rough equal I think he could really into it. Not just the physical aspect but the bouncing ideas about fighting off Trunks. You hinted that at the end of the video so deserved like!

That one was more along the lines of if Trunks couldn't return to the future in the first place. This story is about a different scenario. With the former, it felt like it was a one and done type of thing.

That's narrative faceplant at the end of the story is why I refer to that new timeline as the "replacement goldfish timeline". Definitely agree that there's more potential narratively speaking to have them stay in the main timeline... aside from the fact we know that potential would probably be wasted by Toriyama in canon. So I am really looking forward to seeing what you're going to do with the idea!

This always bothered me so much, like why go back to the future, they would not be able to speak to their friends since they shared the same face as the originals but not the memories, they would have to live in hiding all their life, and then we could have some cool moments with Future Trunks in ToP and its not like Future and Present Trunks are alike besides their face
An interesting start to a new What If series. I'm keen to see what potential power Future Trunks and Gohan will unlock. Of course, it goes without saying that the lineup for the Tournament of Power might not need a certain tyrant currently chilling in HFIL.

my unofficial thought is future trunks was instead enlisted in the time patrol for heroes/Xenoverse rather than properly sent to a duplicate future.

For starters Gohan and Trunks could learn the fusion dance, it requires people of similar bodies and similar power levels, as adult half saiyans they only can do it with each other and considering their past experiences and personalities the warrior born from this fusion wouldn't be as cocky as Gotrenks and Gogeta.
It also would be great to see the younger Trunks interacting with him as if he was his older brother (technically he is). Then watch the coming of Bra.
Then would come the Tournament of Power Arc, with Trunks there they wouldn't need to recruit Freezer and we could see Trunks feeling awkward with the idea of teaming up with 17 and 18 and him being surprisingly good at it due to his experience fighting them.
I also wonder how Goten and Future Trunks will interact with each other.
I would also like to see how Future Trunks and Future Mai’s relationship will develop later in the future such as them having their own family. That will mean Vegeta and Bulma will meet thier grandchildren sooner.
Can't wait for when Future Trunks comes back again in the main series. I mean we all thought he was gone after Cell, then he came back as the main character for the Saga. You know he's coming back...one day...or year...decade...okay might as well do this while we wait.
Also, if they do come back, I imagine the Future Trunks and Mai we know will stay the same, but the "new" Future Trunks and Mai will take on long-hair trunks and Pilaf Gang Mai as adults again.
I've always thought the same. It just made more sense for Trunks and Mai to stay. If they left, they weren't going back to their universe, but someone else's.

Its so simple yet so complex. I'll try to make the round table with this but....."But Masako@@!!!! Gohan is so smart due to inate potential that he should be able to train like piccollo via meditation during his 'homework' days that he should always be able to train after namek." I propose this simple yet complex what if for gohan during the 7 year gap and onward.
A neat thing to note, and from Dragon Ball Fusions, of all things, is that Gohan's assumption in this What-If is correct; Super Saiyan Rage is something of a bridge between Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue. We never actually see it, but there is a DLC scenario wherein we help Future Trunks train and ultimately attain Super Saiyan Blue himself. With him and Gohan training together, and Vegeta taking a much more proactive role as a father figure to both versions of Trunks, it could potentially happen here, too.
