Denso North America's training video showing how to apply profiling mastic and petrolatum tape / wax tape to protect flanges and other irregular shapes from corrosion.
With good tools and access expect about 3min of actual wrapping for two guys, one cutting and wrapping the other priming and moving gear between areas. Don't have gloves, add 1 min. Don't have rags. add 1 min. Use blunt knives or scissors add 1 min. Don't have a good system for moving the rolls add 1 min. Can't get good access due to neighboring pipes wires and junk add 3 min. Need High access, scissor lift, mancage, etc add 10min. Need High access with rope work add 20min. Using only one guy multiply times by 2.5. Adding a 3rd guy won't help unless High work is involved then multiply times for two guys by 0.9 Corrosion clean up on older pipework can be anything from 3-20min just on its own. This doesn't include the walk time between joints. Tips: If multiple flanges are too close together wrap them as a assembly. Cotton or wool gloves over a pair of nitrile gloves may assist in geting the primer around fasteners. All tools will get covered in primer and tape grease, May be worth having a denso tape tool kit. Tape applies best at about 20'c - 28'c. If in cold climates store tape in a Chilly bin/cooler but put a bottle hot water bottle wrapped in a towel in with it to keep it warm and workable.(application of hot air may assist in extreme cold). Good scissors tend to work better than a good knife on tape widths less than 120mm. Baking paper provides a low adhesion surface when needed. Disposable coveralls recommended. I don't work for denso but have used a lot of there stuff, Its just advise and being that you comment if over 6 months old you probably don't need to know any of this but someone else might later.
Any advice for HDPE pipes connected to carbon steel for fire hydrant. Is denso paste advisable to use?
approx how many minutes requires to apply adhesive , mastic and tap[e on one flange lets say 4"?
