    You say you failed on some of your goals, but you also accomplished a lot that weren't on your goal list. You could do a video on all the projects that you worked on in 2022, then it would feel like you got more done then you expected. Some of your side projects will make your goals/chores/projects easier to complete.

    When you redo the firewood shed, build yourself some wood racks from pallets, put sides on them head high and the just pick them up with the tractor forks and move them. Cuts your stack time by 3/4, you can also carry them to the porch and stack it in your rack.

      JudithB Our local folk do this at the splitter, then the full pallet is moved and for sale. When someone buys firewood, they either load the pallet on the truck for delivery, or empty it into folks truck or trailer. Saves a lot of extra handling!

  • @solarcows

    Unsolicited suggestion. Depending on the location relative to your house, your firewood shed could be a perfect place to put your solar panels. You need an improved roof there and the panels can serve the dual purpose of providing power and serve as roofing material for a shed. Building a dual purpose equipment shed/solar ground array is one of MY goals for the year!

    For cutting thru that foam insulation so you can get to the outside of the dog kennel here is a good way to do it. Get yourself a filleting or boning knife and heat it up and then do a plunge thru the insulation and start cutting your outline of the door. You will need to heat it several times while doing this but you will avoid most of the crumbly mess as if you sawed it with a saw.
    I like your list of goals and they seem achievable. Good luck in this new year and your new ventures in farm life.

    Hi Evan and Rebekah! I just found your channel a couple weeks ago due to your pond tribulations. But it is amazing how aligned your goals are with mine, not just due to your pond, but what you are trying to accomplish with your land as well. And I am really enjoying watching you guys go through the things I will be or have gone through myself! And I am learning a lot! This is the latest video I have watched as I want to watch them all till I get caught up to real time with you. You guys are doing God's work! Keep it up! Congratulations on all your success! You give me a model to aspire to! One question... I have gathered through what i have seen that Rebekah is in the medical field (it's funny how many people that also have personal land they are running are in that field!) but I have not been able to figure out what you do for your "real" job Evan (we both know what your REAL real job is!)... If you have said in a video I have not watched yet, apologies. I ask because I find a lot of people that do what you are doing tend to have vocations that will help them with that like mechanics or welders or things like that. I do not have that. If you wanted to think of a job that is the opposite if this, mine would probably be high on the list. So just curious where you came in from. Thanks! Charley

    Ok as far as heat in the shop, I understand wanting high ceilings for a lift but that's where all your heat is going. Place a thermometer up by the ceiling and you'll see how hot it is up there. Fans blowing down will help a lot to blow the heat back down. As for the solar panels, the shorter the distance between the panels and batteries the lower the loss. Plus bigger cables will lower the loss also. Pointing south with no shade from trees or any obstructions will get the most out of panels. I'll be watching to see how you make out.

    Sounds like some obtainable goals. We had solar panels installed on our home in 2022. It is a 24 panel 9.25 KW system. It is tied to the grid where most months we feed excess power back into the grid. Our electric bill which used to average about $250.00 per month has dropped to a little over $10.00 per month, Additionally we are supposed to receive a check in February for the excess power we produced, and we will receive some tax credits too. Since we live in town we had to purchase an installed system, since you're out in the country you may be able to install some or all of your system. Thanks for sharing, we are looking forward to watching your progress.

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  Год назад

      Wd don't have net metering. Our power is from an electric cooperative. They only buy back at 2 cents a kilowatt hours. So grid tied doesn't really make sense. So, I will have a small off grid system for my critical loads.

    • @HaroldReece
      @HaroldReece Год назад

      @@CountryViewAcres We are in Colorado and we have a pretty good solar program here. Our electric company won't allow us to have a battery storage system because of feedback into the grid during an outage. Mostly the only time we use grid power is at night. During the summer we were "banking" about 1 Mwh each month.

    • @trophyfishn9757
      @trophyfishn9757 Год назад

      @@HaroldReece good hybrid inverters use CTs on the two hot grid lines to measure current in and out to ensure no grid back feeding. However cheaper offgrid type inverters will probably not do that and likely not have all the necessary certifications by the county either. Seems odd a utility bans all battery storage when plenty of good inverters can safely handle it and are certified to do so.

    I wouldn't call any of your goals from last year as fails. Just not yet completed. I wouldn't think you would want to put your solar panels on the roof of the shop/pole barn as I don't believe the slope is steep enough for the panels to reach maximum potential. Understand you have some plans for the back yard area but a ground mount system between the shop and the house would be easier to clean the snow off and would also allow shorter wire runs between those buildings. The longer the run the bigger the wires need to be and the more loss of energy. I know you will figure it out. Good luck with all your goals. I'll be watching. Thank you

  • @arosenberger87

    When you go to have the well tested you're going to have to pump the well down to remove any stagnant water that is in the well before having it tested. I found this out the hard way when I moved into my house. The water test came back with bad results and I was convinced I needed a very very expensive water filtration system... Turns out that the well sat for so many years it just needed to be pumped of the junk in it... Shocked (bleach and sit for 24hrs before use) and then ran for a few days (a week for me) before retesting. It came back basically perfect with only mild sediment in the water ($50 whole house filter fixed that, with filter being changed every 3-4 months). I have had it retested multiple times since and ever had shocking test results. Mostly just hard water and sediment, and some iron, which is common. The water testing company kept asking me why I got my water tested when it kept coming back better than tests for the local municipalities😅.
    I would look into building code in your state and area to make sure testing companies don't automatically report flagged results to your health department. While I know you want to use the well for farm use, it won't stop your health department from showing up and complaining until you prove it's farm use. Also, ask any company you use for the test if they report and mention it is a well for farm use, not household use.

    Evan.......please please please re-think your solar panel location. if you get any amount of snow, removing snow off of your panels while they are located on a roof is very hard to do and dangerous, especially a metal roof. even a thin layer of snow on solar panels will cut down production to near zero output. ground mount is the way to go. and have the bottom of the panel about 2 times the distance off of the ground of the normal snowfall. meaning if you can typically see 2 ft of snow, then the bottom of the panels should be about 4 ft off of the ground. that way there is a place for the snow to slide off of the panels by itself if the angle of the panels will allow that, otherwise you will have to clear the snow by hand everytime it snows. i live in central florida and have 11.4kw worth of panels on my pole barn at about 30 degree angle. i also believe your pole barn roof is too flat to mount panels without raising the top of each panel about 2 ft above the roof surface for better angle to the winter sun. if you have to add extra mounting then you might as well go ground mount for better servicing of the system in the future and so as to avoid any roof leaks in your new pole barn. i long to live the lifestyle that the 2 of you have chosen but my years are running shorter with the arrival of each new year. Wishing you the best in the years to come....... Jim in central florida

    You have some good goals in the planning stage, thought you might paint barn roof this year, but barn paint is still as scarce as hen's teeth in my area. Have you considered retaining 12 acres as crop land ? Rental income should make a nice dent in Real Estate Taxes, which tend to rise every three years. At any rate, take your vitamins everyday, you will need them to accomplish your great plans.

Will be praying for you to reach a 100% this year and following along. I too have made major goals for myself this year that involve my health and improvements for that, I am 69, will turn 70 in March. I hope to quit all sugar and flour by my birthday as well as my vaping. I did quit smoking in 2015 now to quit the vaping a big one as well as the sugar and flour and loosing and loosing 23 pounds. I also have 25 quilts to make as welll as keeping up with my gardening and yard work. My husband (he will turn 76 this month) are both disabled and I do all the cooking house work, our side work, gardening, canning, mowing, and etc. I don't have a RUclips channel so can I keep you updated to have someone to be responsible to? Will that work for you?Well anyway those are my goals for this year. You see the reason I am quilting so much is in case I'm not around so long. I want to leave quilts for my 3 granddaughters, wedding presents to them and baby quilts for them and some quilts for my daughter for Christmas and her birthday. She is now 42 and her husband of 20 years died 2 years ago from Covid after being in the Navy for 20 years. They had all these plans for their life after he got out of the Navy. He left 3 daughters, now 22, 19, 12.

    Evan your a big dreamer, watching your current video the goals you set for yourself are very big. I don't want to rain on your parade but you've given yourselves a very high goal. You talk alot about what has to be done. First you say that you've got an electrical background, but if thats the case add up the wattage of the appliances that you want to run, two size your solar system to I figure one and a half times order then you need and buy alot of batteries 🔋 to last for two to three days run time. Next finishing the wall in the work shop before you work on the tractor 🚜 the tractor will not get repaired before the summer too much work. As for the field your setting yourself up for disappointment both you and your wife work full time, trying to do all of those tasks will put you in ICU GOOD LUCK .

    You guys did a great job accomplishing goals for 2022! I think you made some great strides! Thanks for the previous video on how you film and the equipment you use. I don't see that much and it was good information. I watched a youtube channel called Tony's Tractor Attachments Homestead. He has two TYM tractors and lots of attachments. It right up your TYM alley! lol

    Solar on roof of new barn. Strongly consider mounting it a few feet above the ground. I have had experience with this. Cons for barn roof: Holes in new roof, access for snow removal, access for installation and repair. Also lower wind crossection on ground. It will be worth finding a place. We do like your channel and you genuineness.

    Congratulations on making plans that will improve your farm. While viewing other RUclips videos I find many pond owners suggest that all trees in or near the dam be removed, because when the trees die then as the root systems decays the hollow root holes create tunnels for water to drain the pond, Keep up the good work. I enjoy your RUclips videos. I grew up on a farm, and being in my 80's, we moved away from Illinois to be nearer our children.

    If y’all still want to put a fishing pier in think about building one using plastic blue barrels with a wooden deck on top that way you can move it around the entire pond just a thought. Here in the lower part of Louisiana we build like that so as we can move them for hurricanes
