  • Fragmented Prairies and Grasslands: Reconnecting Habitats through Collaborative Partnerships, a 2022 Stewardship in Action Field Workshop, explored various grassland conservation and management strategies, along with the partnerships required to make them successful. Many great Minnesota prairie treasures were explored, including the Randall Waterfowl Production Area.
The hilly topography of this U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service area was the reason that it survives as one of the best examples of a native prairie system in Minnesota. Fire, sumac mowing, goat browsing, and cattle grazing are some of the tools employed to maintain prairie while also providing access to public hunting.
