  • Fragmented Prairies and Grasslands: Reconnecting Habitats through Collaborative Partnerships, a 2022 Stewardship in Action Field Workshop, explored various grassland conservation and management strategies, along with the partnerships required to make them successful. Many great Minnesota prairie treasures were explored, including the Hastad and Hegland Waterfowl Production Areas (WPAs), which are part of the Wetland Morris Wetland Management District.
This area covers 8 counties in west-central Minnesota and oversees 252 WPAs, 8 Northern Tallgrass Prairie National Wildlife (NWR) Refuge Units, and 1,000 conservation easements, protecting more than 105,000 acres of wetlands, grasslands, and native prairie. The purpose of the District is to restore and protect habitat for waterfowl and other wetland wildlife as well as the native prairie ecosystem.
