It is time for all you Wolf Hunterz to realize that life is not long enough to deny yourselves the immediate pleasure of unrestrained listening to The Gathering. Just grab a couple of their albums - Mandylion, How to Measure a Planet?, and if_then_else - and spend a few days and nights together listening and absorbing. Don't worry, you will then be able to watch and react to the videos from DVDs "A Sound Relief" and "A Noise Severe" as if you are listening to them anew. You as a band will be the better for it. Those unfamiliar will never notice; those of us already familiar will be relieved that - FINALLY, you GET it.
The two first album (Madylion and Nihghtime Birds) with Anneke were really very good and a litle doomy to, if you like this kind of heavy rift whit a angelic voice.
Loved your reaction guys. Great track and performance. Rarely shared in ways like these. Thanks!
Atmospheric, melodic doom metallers The Gathering paved the way for so many who followed doing melodic metal, whether that be symphonic, goth or whatever sub-genre. Bands like Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Evanescence and Nightwish, but also master musicians like Devin Townsend drew heavily from their pioneering work, including from Anneke's haunting angelic melodies, lyrics and performance. Such a pity that TG was never really exposed properly in the US at the time. Glad YT and people like Tanis and The Wolf Hunterz are willing to spread the love.
Btw, spot on with your comments on the soundscape and the musicians Jon! Very noice!
Rene is indeed the one who blends all together with his brilliant, tasteful guitar melody lines and riffs. The bass player Hugo, nicely adds bass melodies and tasteful shenanigans (... note that many TG fans even feel Marjolein was their best bass player). Hans is probably always having fun providing his ever tasteful drum support (do note he can kick some hard metal ass as well, like in Eleanor, and also note one of his possibly most joyful moments caught on camera while they were all over the place performing 'Adrenaline' live at Dynamo 1996). Don't forget their second guitar master, Jelmer, who had some moments of marvel as well, like in the hauntingly gorgeous track Sand and Mercury. And then there's Marc on keys, masterfully controlling the atmosphere of every soundscape they produce. Oh, and Anneke ... well, legend, nuff said.
Great great band with Anneke van Giersbergen. So many great albums: Mandylion. How to measure a planet. Nighttime birds. If then else.
Try the song Travel; a song about Mozart.
Absolutely extremely Emotional song
Good 1 Guys

Love her comments :)
Progressive Metal at its best.
Progressive??? Metal? OMG...
Yeah
The ladies always Firts!! what a guy....!!
pls react to strapping young lad - detox or shitstorm
6:48 Freudian slip. I could feel from his vibe that he didn't care for the song before this. Just be honest with yourself. You come across as massively disingenuous
in most of the reactions I've seen of you. This is really telling.
Gathering was way better before she became the singer. I was so disappointed when they went from metal to that garbage.
You suck like a Hoover. We need more atmospheric music like Pink Floyd and less cookie monster nonsense. Before Anneke The Gathering was generic garbage
Anneke is the biggest reason anyone has ever heard of the Gathering. Also how was Almost a Dance LP better or more metal than this? They already stopped being death metal before Anneke got their smart one. They changed vocalists their first 2 albums for a reason and sold more records with Anneke for a reason. The only thing that's garbage is your opinion.
@@ThEmB0nEz exactly, who the hell was the Gathering before Anneke van Giersbergen?
@@hansgruber2913 cookie monster vocals and that death metal sound for the most part sucks. The Gathering was OK at it but nothing special. Loved the Gathering much better in the Anneke years with not just her vocals but the different mixing of genres that the Gathering did with their music as well. When it comes to that style of growls and extreme metal I only like so far are Opeth, Gojira and Jinjer. But all of those bands are more progressive then death metal and the latest Opeth music seems to have completely goin away from the growls and heavy, extreme music and Gojira is getting that way as well.
@@hansgruber2913 we get the same idiots for Therion's music as well with some people from time to time saying that late 1980s Therion was its best. The early years of Therion sucks with them sounding like a 3rd rate thrash metal band. When Therion became this Gothic, symphonic metal band they were much better and got many more fans in the process. Therion in the 1st decade of the 21 century or 2000s was my favorite music done by Therion but they still have very good music today as well. But the thrash metal days of Therion, hell no!
