This is a Brazilian song written by pianist, vocalist, arranger, composer and conductor Luiz Eça, leader of Tamba Trio, in the 60's. It has been recorded by a score o great jazz musicians all over the world, including Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Toots Thielemans, among others, many of them you can find here at RUclips.
I once heard an interview with Luiz Eça, on a radio here in Brazil, where he talked about Bill Evans' version of this song. He said that became furious because Bil Evans had given the song a quicker rhythm and sent a letter to him showing his dissatisfaction. Bill Evans apologized but over time, Eça fell in love with this version. When Bill Evans came to Rio, he insisted on meeting him and made a great friendship.
I noticed that your last name is Getz? Are you related to Stan Getz? I'm an amateur saxophonist, but Stan Getz has been my most admired sax player since I started back in high school. He's got the most perfect sound and the most lyrical lines -- and it's not just bossa, but straight-up jazz too. Thanks for sharing this here.
No one can duplicate the beautiful sound of Getz the directions he takes his notes are so sweet and melodic. He gets so much out of one note. The bends, curves and slants he uses are completely unique and genius. I ask myself, Who would think of that expression on that phrase or note? I'm sure many artist were jealous of his creativity and talents.
His taste in fashion might be poor, but this is the best 'old skool jazz' saxophonist that ever lived. Just listen to the amazing stories this guy is telling us through his horn. His 'lines' are unsurpassed. Great.

A minor thing but Jim's last name is McNeely and I think it is Marc Johnson ... nevertheless... it is the music that counts and Stan hits a home run every time he comes to bat.
To be able to play like this I would even wear that sweater ....all the time!
