I love your videos! I don't know why your channel hasn't blown up yet. Thank you for continuing to post! It really helps us skaters that don't have a lot of money for lessons. I'm teaching learn to skate and your videos are so helpful for me learning personally, and learning to teach others. This is the best way of teaching a back scratch I've ever seen. I wish I learned this way and I'm excited to share this method with my students!

4:04 as Sarah shifts from position 2 to 3, she's pivoting her right foot from point left to pointing backwards, since she started out facing the wall. To pivot her right foot like that I see her pivoting on the toe.

I always tend to lean my upper body too forward and throw the whole thing off, but somehow the windshield wiper analogy helped me get past this a little. I tried it just the other day and I actually managed to get into a good position thinking about the spin in this way. I think maybe it helped so much because it puts structure to what I am doing with my free leg? Thank you for the tutorial!

Please do back inside & back outside 3 turns. I’m struggling for a year with these.

4:15 watch this at 0.25x speed and you will see that going from position 1 to 2 is a complicated pivot that isn't really explained. The left foot is skating backwards and pivots on the heel to face as much forward as flexibility will allow. At the same time the right foot is skating forward and it pivots as well and I guess what it's doing is a three turn so that it can go from skating forward in the two foot spin to skating backwards. So it would have to pivot on the toe to do that. Also notice that the two foot spin here is done with the feet far apart compared to the way a two foot spin is normally done. In the end, as good as is this video, there isn't enough detailed instruction to make use of it unless you already know the material.

Could you do a video on a 2-foot spin, and how to turn it in a one foot spin (like generally learning a basic spin)

Excellent videos and much better than some of your others. I like the windsheild wiper approach, very helpful, and the detailed breakdown of the 1-2-3 approach with that. That position #2 is a subtle but crucial point. Thanks.

3:40 I wish there were more detail about those windsheild wipers. I'm going to try that on the ice today, I suspect doing that is not as easy and obvious as it is made to look here, and no real instruction is given there. How are you making that pivoting happen? Let's see, you start with both feet poiinting forward. Then you swivel your hips so that your pelvis is pointing left, and you pivot your feet at the same time so the toes are pointing left as well. To do that you could lift the toes and pivot on the heel, you could lift the heel and pivot on the toes, or you could pivot on the middle of the blade but that wouldn't seem to work. Which is it?

I will try all of these tips tomorrow at the rink, once I flip it for a clockwise skater. Everyone forgets about us :( Thank you for the video.

As usual I love your content. More people should subscribe and watch because you are providing new/extra tips and tricks that I have never seen my coaches use. I love how you break it down and then build it back up with simple to follow steps. My back spins currently suck but with your exercises I am confident to improve them soon. Thanks again.

Love your videos. Please could you do a video on one-foot spin entry into either upright spin or scratch spin? It's about how to go from that glide on outside edge with a tiny hook stop into a small 3-turn then into the spin. Some people can do it naturally, some really struggle with it as that glide-hook stop-3turn simply couldn't happen and it becomes a bad 3turn. Thanks.

I love the effect of waiting a round to start the spin - what happens when your toes and top part of your foot cramps up on the backspins? Have your students ever experienced this?

4:00 She's making an A shape with her legs and you're telling her to put her weight back, on her right foot, then to pick up her left foot. To do that she's going to have to shift her entire body position to be over her right foot. I've seen other instruction make a point of keeping your body and hip all aligned over that right foot, rather than the A shape that is way off a straight alignment.

Hello! When you do the 2 foot spin to 1 foot, do you have to step on an outside edge first on your right foot to make sure you're not spinning on an inside? Thank you!!
