this versions feels so much more emotional. it just feels like there;s more momentum to everything he's saying too. like in the album version it's him telling you things, then he tells you another thing, then another thing. but here, you get it and it goes from a mid-tier Elliott smith song (which is still amazing anyways, since even the songs he did when he was 13, or the songs he can't even finish because he's too drugged up or drunk are great pieces of work which in my won little biased world, I know prefer to the entire discography of other musicians) to a fantastic one.

If the guitar is tuned down a half a step the A chord becomes a G# chord at that position he plays it at. As well as the C, D, Dm chords being a half a step down as well.

Kurt Cobain was definitely good, but I still think Elliott Smith came up with more interesting chord progressions and used some interesting chord shapes at times. If I was to put anyone from the grunge scene to contrast Smith, I would pick Jerry Cantrell from AIC. He was always the best guitar player and one of the best songwriters from the grunge scene. I would also say Dean DeLeo of STP also is more similar to Smith's level of creativity in chord progressions.

Want to tell you i enjoyed reading your two thoroughly, really. Typos apart, which can be hilarious sometimes, i got everything down.
And relate on every point u made. The call out to encourage people to get up and try and learn and the passionate snippets about songs and the various aspects. U know i play guitar too but im no docent nor on e.s. level (god forbid thats an understatement i mean xD) but i got it for the most part

If the guitar is tuned down a half a step the A chord becomes a G# chord at that position he plays it at. As well as the C, D, Dm chords being a half a step down as well.
Oh of course now i see my mind sort of overlapped the needle in the hay line which is effectively 'strung out and thin' with this song title

Kurt Cobain was definitely good, but I still think Elliott Smith came up with more interesting chord progressions and used some interesting chord shapes at times. If I was to put anyone from the grunge scene to contrast Smith, I would pick Jerry Cantrell from AIC. He was always the best guitar player and one of the best songwriters from the grunge scene. I would also say Dean DeLeo of STP also is more similar to Smith's level of creativity in chord progressions.
Pretty old comment but..yeah. Dean DeLeo absolutely. WHen you hear those songs and dont really pay attention youre thinking..oh thats just some barre chords but if you listen NOPE. There are some very peculiar chords for rock songs.

Smith had ADHD, that could explain part of his drug addiction. people with ADHD react differently to certain drugs. its as if they go into "normal mode" while "normal" people who would use it would react in a different way. then of course he had issues apart from that
