      Bobby Jones said, "I don't look at any particular part of the ball, I'm merely aware of where it is." That's what I do as well. I'm not looking anywhere really other than just that general direction. You don't want to become transfixed on the ball.

      It's it crazy that once you hear the sensible explanation we wonder how we ever believed anything else. Anyone who's good at golf at some point, learned to do this. Most likely it was so long ago that they're completely unaware they do it. I find it amazing when a great ball striker describes what he does and gets it completely wrong. For them, I think, it's a problem of lexicon. They only know how to describe things in ways they've heard before so that's what they think they're doing, but they're clearly not.
      It's almost like this is so simple and axiomatic that no one sees it. The thing I find interesting is that anyone who knows absolutely nothing about golf does this naturally. Then, as traditional golf instruction infects, them they forget they ever did it.

      @@HolyGrailOfGolf Speaking for myself, understanding the direction of the force of motion is huge. If I want to hit it better I ask myself what am I doing that could be improved or gets in the way of making that happen correctly. Is my grip, alignment and set up correct so I can execute and allow the physics to take over? 💡

    P.S. Can you make a short video on hooking the ball?

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  4 года назад

      Fantastic! I've helped a new golfer. Most of the people that benefit from this channel have been playing for a long long time and say, "Where was this info 30 years ago." I made a video, or at least I mentioned it, in a video about hooking and fading but the reason it happens is because you fear it. If you try to make it happen, it won't. You have to reserve the ability to turn the club over through impact and therefore you can't do it beforehand. If you try to prevent it, you're actually making it happen before impact. So, what you need to do is try to hook it, but do it late in the swing and it won't happen. I should make another video about it though, you're right.
      I'm happy to hear that I've done another person good! How 'bout a tip?
      www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=D9KLSZE47S8AY
      People pay hundreds for a new driver or irons and hundreds more on DVDs and lessons that do them little or no good. I have truly simplified the swing to the point of almost near ridiculousness and it's transforming people's golf games and only a few nice people have given me a donation.
      I don't mean to guilt you into anything. You do what feel is right. My wife keeps saying to me, "Why are you just giving it away for free? You're wasting your time!"
      I'd like to prove her wrong.
      Play well!

      I brought my camera with me yesterday. I eagled the first hole from 150 yards out and finished the side 4 under par. I guess I'm ridiculously superstitious because I was thinking, 'If I start videoing something will go wrong.' So, I never pulled out the camera. Dumb, I know. It got cold and damp and I ended up with a +3 on the back. Every shot on the last 4 holes came up short. It had to be the thick air.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  4 года назад

      There really shouldn't be much difference. All clubs work the same way generally, except that we prefer to hit upward on the ball with the driver. Steve Pratt has a good video explaining that. It's called "Mike Austin was wrong." It explains how the club feels like it's crossing the target line but it's actually not. Very interesting.

    Baseball player points club to target because that is the way he wants to go. Golf player also points his club to target because that is the way he wants ball to go. You have golf player pointing 90 degrees out of the way he wants to go. Actually baseball play also sets up 90 out of the ways also. You say there is a difference. I don't see it. Please explain. Same with tennis player. everyone sets up the club, or racquet 90 degrees to the way they want to go.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  4 года назад +1

      We don't hit a golf club with the side of the shaft and we don't hit it half way through the swing. In golf we hit the ball about 90% through the swing. A baseball bat and tennis racket don't have an angled wedge at the tip. That angled wedge, the clubhead, is what makes golf so unique. I thought I explained that here, but maybe I need to do a better job. Watch my video, the holy grail of golf and I think that'll explain it better.

    • @richardpeyser8552
      @richardpeyser8552 4 года назад

      @@HolyGrailOfGolf It is a little confusing. I did watch all your videos and the holy grail especially and it has improved my swing. But this video is confusing because really we are swing in the same direction with all sports towards the target. If you look more at a tennis racquet we are swinging more towards the end of the racquet not in the middle and it does have a square face like the golf club and the player swings at the ball in the direction of the target. Isn't this the same as the golf swing? I know this is hard to explain but I think it may be the essence of what you are trying to do here. thanks

    • @richardpeyser8552
      @richardpeyser8552 4 года назад

      One thing that is relevant here when I played golf and hit with a forehand I could hit it late and have it go straight but with the backhand it was diffferent you had to really hit it more in front of you and not late or at 90 degrees to the body, but more in front at about 45 degrees to the body because you were hitting with the right arm more like the left arm in golf. Does this explain anything?

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  4 года назад

      @@richardpeyser8552 I know what you're saying but in every other sport we hit the ball half way through the swing not 90% through the swing which is how a golf club works. We wouldn't be able to reach it otherwise. Also, we hit the ball long before the release and it golf it's just before. I think it's best not think too much about the physics of it and simply let it work. What most people do is overthink the physics and they get it wrong but they're absolutely positive that they must be right even though it never works as they believe it should. They simply can't think of it any other way so they just keep trying the same thing over and over.

      The grip is warn out on that club that sits on the side of the house. I have to hold it so tight with my bare hand that it hurts, so I put the washcloth on it and it sticks and it's comfortable. It's also a good way to just swing without wearing out your hands. I guess wearing a glove and getting older my hands just aren't as rugged as they once were. I remember the days of playing bare-handed with full cord grips.
