Arcanum is still unmatched from a RP perspective. Tim Cain and crew simply cooked there, jank included (as would become tradition with Obsidian later on). All Troika games deserve a remake because all Troika games did things that are still unmatched to this day. Thief would be cool too, as would Dark Messiah if Might and Magic with an actual good last third of the game (the first 2/3rds are peak gaming).
Really random here, but I've always wanted them to remake No One Lives Forever 1 and 2. Sadly the rights have been lost and are contested, so it probably won't ever be done.
My top 5-ish candidates for remakes: - Dark Messiah of Might & Magic - a bit of cheating, but all of the older D&D titles, like Icewind Dale, Neverwinter 1/2, Baldur's Gate etc - updating the graphics and UI, but keeping the story and worldbuilding with minor tweaks and fixes would definitely attract new audience - Morrowind - Vagrant Story - Thief 1 & 2
BG1, BG2 and Icewind Dale already got Enhanced Editions and they did a great job at updating the games. Unless you mean straight up remaking them in a 3D engine, which imo would kinda ruin them I can see NWN getting this treatment though
Completly agree on Lionheart. Played multiple times few first hours of this game with different type of character but never finished the story. Mostly because late phase demands from you certain way of build and you can't respec your skills or magic.
Eh, I honestly don't know if Fate of Atlantis needs it; even modern adventure games are not that much more advanced on graphics. But Fallout 1 & 2 done up with Wasteland 3-style engine and graphics, do want.
When I saw the Arcanum thumbnail, I thought for sure you'd have 2 Troika games on this list, including Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines. Surely an honorable mention as needing a remake that will never happen.
I started playing Arcanum back in September, never finished it, but I really enjoyed it & I really agree that it should be remastered or remade, maybe even get its creator Tim as a consultant for the team. I'd pre-order that, no joke.
One I really want that will probably never happen, obsidian's alpha protocol, that game had so much promise and potential greatness, but needed a lot more love. A remaster with some extra patching etc too, urgh, would be amazing
The 4 GB Patch only prolongs the time until the inevitable crash. It crashes because of a memory leak. Before the crash (at least for me), the game will slow down (longer loadingtimes, input latency, etc..) That's the point where you have to save and restart the game. It mostly takes between 2 - 4 hours until that happens (without the patch 1 - 2 hours). The Steam-Version can't be patched, except you have someone, that gives you a non-steam .exe, or just buy the gog version, that has the LAA Patch already included and installed and it also limits the game to use only 2 Cores, because the crashes are more frequent if it uses more. But even the gog version will inevitably crash on you.
I replayed Dungeon Siege for a couple of months late last year. Unlike other older games, it actually runs quite well on my mid-range modern computer. But I would certainly buy a remaster.
@@PseronWyrd I must admit, part of the reason I'd love it is not just technical, it's the expansions. The current releases online of 1 and 2 last I checked don't have the expansions for some insane reason.
I would love to see Jade Empire! Contrary to a lot of the folks out there, I personally dig the remake/remaster culture we have going on these days (for the most part; I fully agree with how ridiculous it is that Horizon Zero Dawn needed a remaster like that). There have been so many titles I didn't get to play as a kid that I got to experience in recent years because of it. Sure, emulation was an option, but as a physical collector, it's awesome having physical copies of games that run on modern consoles and don't require owning the old consoles + expensive upscaling hardware to look good on modern displays. Metroid Prime, Tales of Symphonia, Pikmin 1 + 2, Tactics Ogre, Star Ocean 2, Dead Space, the Etrian Odyssey trilogy, SMT Nocturne, Advance Wars 1 + 2, and Mario 3D Allstars are just a handful of such games in my collection, and I absolutely love them.
I want Arcanum so much. Even if it was done like Fallout where the third game moved away massively from the CRPG format. Honestly, not all of the combat mechanics were that great and if they changed it from iso to first person or whatever, and changed the combat systems that would be fine. Arcanum was / is pretty much my favourite game world of all time. The character creation was brilliant too. Just an absolutely amazing game despite it's frequent jankiness. I've never played the patched / fixed version and I still just love it. Edit: I played the first chunk of Lionheart over and over and over as well. Loved the different races and lore.
Completely agree with your choices of Dragon Age Origins and Jade Empire. I'd also personally love a remaster of Knights of the Old Republic, just to add some quality of life features to it. I'd love a full on remake of Parasite Eve and Legend of Dragoon, both from the PS1 era.
My Top 5 Remake Wishlist: - Planescape: Torment - Realms of Arcania (The Dark Eye): Blade of Destiny + Star Trail + Shadows over RIva - Alpha Protocol - Lands of Lore - The Throne of Choas - Dragon Age: Origins + Exodus/II
Arcanum is number 1 for me, I loved the systems (magic vs industrial) and environment that are still unique. Revenant (1999, and would require a remake) which I thought was a cool action RPG that was more interesting combat than say Diablo but needed more variable weapons and armor that would change the gameplay. Freespace is my other pick, I know the X series is supposed to be line Freespace but I don't think anything really hits the same way Freespace did.
Loved arcanum its whole tone and aesthetic, even enjoyed my evil playthrough as necromancer and the 2 choices of siding with villain at end or replacing him.
what I would love to see remastered/ remade: The Summoner The suffering/the Suffering:Ties that bind Amorines: Project S.W.A.R.M Body Harvest Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
Jade Empire blown me away when I first played as a kid and then once again when I replayed it few years ago. The multitude of choices, secrets and ending is impressive even now. Would buy the remaster in a heartbeat
Top of my list is Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Feels like no one ever talks about those games, and they're criminally underrated. They're also impossible to play legally on any modern system because of PS2 exclusivity. Also, on the "never talked about underrated gems" list is Divinity 2: Ego Draconis (later re-released with its expansion as Divinity 2: Dragon Knight Saga). All of Larian's other titles get way more love from fans, but you can't turn into a wholeass dragon basically from the rip in them, can you? No, you can't.
The RPG games for me that I would love to see a remake/remaster for are as follows: 7th Saga honestly I never finished it as a kid, and I haven't gone back and played it as an adult. However I remember it fondly and it felt very innovative at the time, with its multiple characters to choose from and the ability to meet up with the other characters and have them join your party as you went through the world, and the overworld map like radar that you could use to roughly gage where enemies were. (When overworld map combat was random in most JRPGs back then) And then FF6 would be my other choice form the 16bit era. Just a phenomenal JRPG. And then I'm torn between hoping for and being terrified of a Chrono Trigger remake. It's just such a classic Goat RPG that it would just be so disheartening if it was ruined in the remake/remaster process. And I think like many I am still hopeful that the KoTOR remake is done well and we can get an update on the development soon.
Another games I would love to see a remake: - Golden Sun series - Breath of Fire 3/4 - Final Fantasy 9 - Empire Earth - Dawn of War 1/2 - Legend of Dragoon - MechCommsnder 1 / 2
This list is just gold. I especially loved Lionheart and i know the issues with the story in the second half of the game but the mechanics were fabulous and i remember fondly how scared i was in the catacombs under Barcelona. Also i loved the secrets you kept finding and the magic trees.
One thing Xbox does great is being backwards compatible. Got to enjoy Jade Empire with a physical copy but without owning the original console. And earlier this year I replayed DAO on XBX with the improved performance and everything (my favorite game of all time so this was huge).
Divine Divinity and the Wizardry games are the ones I'd like to see remastered, I didn't hold up much hope for Wizardry but now they have the first one remade, hope they do the Dark Savant Trilogy
Man, for a very long time I thought that Arcanum was a fever dream of mine. I was so confused playing that game as a young teenager but the setting and soundtrack were AMAZING.
Ohh Man!! Speaking to my heart here! So agree on Arcanum, Lionheart, and Divine Divinity. Dude, do you remember the in box manual for Arcanum!? A PC game with a Thick manual…take my money please. 😂
Arcanum 100% need a remake, and Microsoft owns both the Arcanum IP and Obsidian Entertainment. In my perspective, I think Obsidian Entertainment is the perfect studio for this project, having played both pillars of eternity 1 and 2, Arcanum is right where it belongs.
Silver Anachronox Summoner Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator Arcatera: The Dark Brotherhood Project Eden Freedom Force Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich Dungeon Lords
Remasters/remakes I'd love: -Chrono Trigger in that 3D pixel style like Octopath -Diablo like D2R -KOTOR in the style of AAA Unreal 5 all the ray tracing, etc.
Love to hear Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader even just mentioned. Spent a ton of time in the first town on many characters even though i never got too far, and one of few games i bought with my allowance back in the day. All of these games are fantastic picks still worth trying to make work.
One you didn't list is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The interface was designed for 800x600 resolution, IIRC, so on modern displays the character screen, inventory screen, etc., would be around postage stamp size.
awwww, you reminded me of lionheart, i loved the historical magic tomfoolery, didn't know about that shitty release background. i would like to see a remaster of silver, that game is still on my steamwishlist just to have a constant reminder of that awesome game. also as another comment said, kotor deserves a remaster, that sheet was a masterpiece, i remember playing with an old buddy back then and how we audibly gasped when we found out who the main character is. ah, thanks for the memories, this is a great vid mortym
Nice list, I especially agree w/ Arcanum. A sequel would be nice. That or another RPG in a steampunk setting (a pity the Iron Kingdoms/Warmachine setting doesn't seem to be getting a video game, at least not one that I'm aware of; it had a turn-based tactics game, but that wasn't great). A few games came to mind: - Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace - a remake would probably be ideal, at this point, but I did really enjoy this one, despite its shortcomings. - Darklands - I'd also like a remake/remaster of this, but leaning toward a more detailed/complex remake. - not an RPG (although an RPG in the setting would be great, as I did enjoy the Fading Suns campaign a friend ran ages ago), but I'd like to see Emperor of the Fading Suns get a remake/remaster
Number one on my list is Chrono Trigger - albeit with a pretty gentle remaster/remake approach Currently the most accessible version is on PC… and it’s a port of the mobile version that’s basically had controller support put back into it. The core gameplay of Chrono Trigger is still extremely sound (I literally just replayed it in September so this isn’t nostalgia goggles fogging up my memory here). What it needs is better resolution and frame rate. Maybe the HD2D style if you want to go all in (and honestly, while more effort, that style would help catch the eyes of new audiences). And then a retouched, standardized localization of the game (different re releases over the years have different translations so even something as simple as weapons have different names depending on if you’re playing OG vs DS vs mobile/PC). The one controversial thing I’m not decided on is whether you spring to add voice acting or not. I’d lean towards yes because technically it does help with accessibility even if the game itself has plenty of character in its original form Otherwise, my remasters wish list is full of more classic JRPGs like FFIX, FF tactics, Dragon Quest VIII, etc. but Chrono tops the list
I'm admittedly a bit of a madlad on this topic, as my personal choice would be Might and Magic IX (which I think actually had a lot more potential than a lot of people gave it credit for). I would love to know what Tim Lang and the rest of that team would have cooked up if there had been time to finish the game prior to it getting shoved out the door with the closure of 3DO and NWC. Well, that and maybe an engine better suited to what they were trying to accomplish.
I know this is primarily a PC channel but Dragon Age: Origins plays great on Xbox series X. It even has a FPS boost. The console is an easy and improved way to experience some 360 games I missed. It’s pretty much the main draw to the system as other consoles may have better exclusives or obviously PC being open.
Of your list I would love to see a remaster of Jade Empire and a remake of Arcanum. Both are not very likely; but at least in the case of Arcanum we're getting New Arc Line. In the case of DA Origins, Bioware has been on the record saying they're not going to be doing a remaster because of the engine and not having many people who know how to use it... and we all know EA isn't going to drop resources to remake it. And as for Jade Empire; well you said it best: it's the "much neglected child of Bioware"...
I’m with you on dao. The constant crashes even with the fixes just make it not worth the stress to replay. Seems like the best way to jump into a replay of dao is the 360 version lol
As someone who has tried to play Jade Empire over and over and just can't get the PC version to work for me the way I want it to, I agree with that one for sure. I've wanted to play it since it released and have never been able to.
After success of "Black Myth: Wukong" and if "Where Winds Blow" will turn out to be a good game I think there could be market for new "Jade Empire", either remake or a sequel (very loose one I assume). I'd love it myself. And it would be cool to have a remake/reboot of Might & Magic series, but one keeping with the sci-fi core ideas like the original games did, maybe even expanding upon it.
Full agree with all of these, but I would also like to add one of my own. Betrayal at Krondor! It was a true gem in my opinion and one of the first PC RPGs i ever played, back when CDROM was in high season (I was too young for the release to even have a pc, where it was one of the first cdrom games iirc). I would say it was one of the pioneers in bringing overworld RPGs into the 3d era, even if in a faux format of the time.
Though I'd love a full remaster/reboot of Dragon Age: Origins & Jade Empire, I'd settle for technical fixes that allowed both to run effortlessly on modern systems with modern controllers. I'd replay the heck out of both. I respectfully add Knights of the Old Republic to your list.
One game I haven't seen mentioned in the other comments is Nox. It was an action rpg that came out shortly before Diablo 2 and it got steam rolled when that juggernaut came along. It had maps that had been designed by people rather than relying on a random map generator like Diablo 2 but the world building, spell system and npc characters were a lot more interesting. But then I wasn't a huge fan of the grim dark Diablo 2 vibe so if you prefer that kind of setting your results might vary;).
More than anything, I want a remaster of _Jagged Alliance 2_ just it would play better on modern computers. In fact, I don't even care about them doing anything about the gameplay or graphics. Also, I just played the strategy/management game _Gangsters: Organized Crime_ (1998) and while I loved it, the sluggish controls and the bad UI made me wish for a remaster.
Personally: Thief 1,2, and 3, Original Deus Ex and 2, Shenmue 1 and 2, The Last Ninja series (updated and expanded for modern times), Splinter Cell 1,2,3,4...
Although it probably wouldn't be one of my top picks for a remake, I think Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior could really be great with a proper remake. Since 40K (And Warhammer in general) has gotten even more popular from games like Space Marine 2, Rouge Trader, and Darktide, it'd be cool to showcase a different Xenos faction. (Even though I'm not super into the Tau). Also just started playing Arcanum for the first time ever earlier this month.
DA:O was the only DA game I liked and I would love to see a modern remake. I bought Jade Empire but was never able to get it to run. I would love to see that re-made too.
Arcanum is since few days ago included into GOG game preservation program where GOG promises to keep it up and running on modern systems

@ haha fair
My top 5-ish candidates for remakes:
- Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
- a bit of cheating, but all of the older D&D titles, like Icewind Dale, Neverwinter 1/2, Baldur's Gate etc - updating the graphics and UI, but keeping the story and worldbuilding with minor tweaks and fixes would definitely attract new audience
- Morrowind
- Vagrant Story
- Thief 1 & 2
BG1, BG2 and Icewind Dale already got Enhanced Editions and they did a great job at updating the games. Unless you mean straight up remaking them in a 3D engine, which imo would kinda ruin them
I can see NWN getting this treatment though
Completly agree on Lionheart. Played multiple times few first hours of this game with different type of character but never finished the story. Mostly because late phase demands from you certain way of build and you can't respec your skills or magic.
Fallout 1 and 2, Knights of the Old Republic, Bully, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
DA:O is an absolute gem and no other Dragon Age game is remotely close, from game design to story. It'd be great if it was shown some love.
Dino crisis and gargoyle quest are 2 capcom classics that deserve remakes
If they made DC remake just as good as RE2 I would cry of happiness.
Would love a Dino Crisis Remake!
Thankfully it's now on GOG.
I generally think we need much more Steampunk/fantasy RPG's.
Oh, there are so many. But probably the one I'd most like to see is Dungeon Siege.
@@cpugwash7085 Yes, that's a good point. I'd love to see that too!
Arcanum rehash / sequel - update in the way baldurs gate did it would be really friggin' neat !
Now we're talking!
Ssx tricky remake, split/second velocity remaster. I would love that personally.
The most deserving game in my eyes is Planescape: Torment. It needs a full remake with updated mechanics. The writing is already perfect
Love the Lionheart and Divine Divinity mentions!
Arcanum needs SOOOOO much reworking... it would be perfect.
Great list all around.
Loved the different races and lore.
keep an eye on Clockwork Revolution. First person strampunk RPG from a lot of devs who worked on Arcanum
We're meant to be getting a remake of KotOR but it'll likely either is going to be ages away, or not going to happen.
My Top 5 Remake Wishlist:
- Planescape: Torment
- Realms of Arcania (The Dark Eye): Blade of Destiny + Star Trail + Shadows over RIva
- Alpha Protocol
- Lands of Lore - The Throne of Choas
- Dragon Age: Origins + Exodus/II
Arcanum and Jade Empire are two games I played absolutely to death many years ago. I would love to see them get an update.
I would absolutely love a Jade Empire Remastered. Or even an sequel.
Arcanum 100%. So much potential there for a remake, though I would be super happy just for a remaster.
Arcanum spotted! (I know that anyone who knows you could see that coming, but I still like seeing it)
Arcanum is the top of my list. I fondly remember every one of these games and would love to see any of them.
Loved arcanum its whole tone and aesthetic, even enjoyed my evil playthrough as necromancer and the 2 choices of siding with villain at end or replacing him.
what I would love to see remastered/ remade:
The Summoner
The suffering/the Suffering:Ties that bind
Amorines: Project S.W.A.R.M
Body Harvest
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
These list videos have been really good. Looking forward to seeing this one.
Summoner 2 Remake/Remaster for all platforms would be nice!
In addition to Arcanum and Dragon age origins, I would really like to see a remake of Fallout 1 and 2.
(When overworld map combat was random in most JRPGs back then)
And then FF6 would be my other choice form the 16bit era.
Arcanum!!! This game led me down a lovely pathway of RPGaming.
This game never gets talked about but I would like to see The Last Remnant get remade because the battle system in that game was fantastic
Oh and Shadow Hearts
Remake of kings field is pretty high on my list. Also cannon fodder lived that game.
Another games I would love to see a remake:
- Golden Sun series
- Breath of Fire 3/4
- Final Fantasy 9
- Empire Earth
- Dawn of War 1/2
- Legend of Dragoon
- MechCommsnder 1 / 2
This list is just gold. I especially loved Lionheart and i know the issues with the story in the second half of the game but the mechanics were fabulous and i remember fondly how scared i was in the catacombs under Barcelona. Also i loved the secrets you kept finding and the magic trees.
Still waiting for a Tiberian Sun remaster since the previous games got theirs. Maybe with more variable unit sizes.
It is remastered along side red alert 1.
@@tyrael43 I think you're confusing it with Tiberian Dawn.
One thing Xbox does great is being backwards compatible. Got to enjoy Jade Empire with a physical copy but without owning the original console. And earlier this year I replayed DAO on XBX with the improved performance and everything (my favorite game of all time so this was huge).
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Jade Empire is so often overlooked and forgotten!
Perfect list
Arcanum 100% need a remake, and Microsoft owns both the Arcanum IP and Obsidian Entertainment. In my perspective, I think Obsidian Entertainment is the perfect studio for this project, having played both pillars of eternity 1 and 2, Arcanum is right where it belongs.
Silver
Anachronox
Summoner
Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption
Septerra Core: Legacy of the Creator
Arcatera: The Dark Brotherhood
Project Eden
Freedom Force
Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich
Dungeon Lords
Remasters/remakes I'd love:
-Chrono Trigger in that 3D pixel style like Octopath
-Diablo like D2R
-KOTOR in the style of AAA Unreal 5 all the ray tracing, etc.
A few games came to mind:
- Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace - a remake would probably be ideal, at this point, but I did really enjoy this one, despite its shortcomings.
I love, love Arcanum! The low intel build and interactions are so priceless!
Number one on my list is Chrono Trigger - albeit with a pretty gentle remaster/remake approach
Currently the most accessible version is on PC… and it’s a port of the mobile version that’s basically had controller support put back into it. I’d lean towards yes because technically it does help with accessibility even if the game itself has plenty of character in its original form
Otherwise, my remasters wish list is full of more classic JRPGs like FFIX, FF tactics, Dragon Quest VIII, etc. but Chrono tops the list
Yes to Jade Empire! That would be amazing!
Arcanum is always my number 1 when asked this question. I adore that game😊
Divine Divinity is one of my all time favourite games, I played it multiple times and enjoyed it every damn time. A remaster would be awesome.
Can say all these games have appeal, yet if I could only pick two it be Arcanum and Jade Empire.
I had forgotten Lionheart existed, but now I remember having fun with it. Sad that it did not get to show it´s potential.
3:59 watched my friend play this throughout college and i’ll gladly give a remake a purchase
Overboard (PS1)
Legend of Dragoon (PS1)
SOCOM US Navy Seals (PS2)
Desert/Jungle Strike (Amiga)
Though I'd love a full remaster/reboot of Dragon Age: Origins & Jade Empire, I'd settle for technical fixes that allowed both to run effortlessly on modern systems with modern controllers. I'd replay the heck out of both. I respectfully add Knights of the Old Republic to your list.
Spot on with The 5 games. Though I would like to see Drakan remade.
DAO remake would be sick. Just finished it for the first time in preparation for DAV and still to this day its an incredible game
A full big budget remake of Arcanum will be incredible.
Unpopular opinion, but i wanna see the Too Human trilogy come to fruition... C'mon Microsoft, give me what I want!!! 😂
Personally Oblivion. I want the REAL Imperial City in it's lore-accurate size and form.
Personally:
Thief 1,2, and 3,
Original Deus Ex and 2,
Shenmue 1 and 2,
The Last Ninja series (updated and expanded for modern times),
Splinter Cell 1,2,3,4...
I would love to see that re-made too.
i agree 1000% on these!
