This is something ive been thinking about a lot lately. Consistent action is EVERYTHING. Its so easy to say "ill start being productive tomorrow!" "Ill just take one last lazy day, break, look at my phone" etc. Anything but NOT doing what you know you should be doing. Action is everything. You are what you do. So do something worthwhile (consistently) and your life will be worthwhile. Doing it well doesnt matter. Do it badly. Do it badly for as long as you have to. The simple act of doing is what gets you ahead and facilitates growth. Nothing is more important
I agree however don’t push yourself to do something you don’t want to do, instead try to fuel and "kickstart" your passion and everything else will follow... like exercise for example rather than hating yourself for forcing yourself to do it inspire yourself make it fun make yourself "want to" do it not "have to" Motivation is key
i don't know how you did it but you managed to make 4 minutes feel like an entire cinematic experience, AND inspire me to pick up my sketchbook for the first time in weeks. thank you chroma moma, happy drawing times to you
I often struggle with WHAT to draw… do i do studies, use a reference , observations? I love the simplistic nature of this video…. begin making a mark and from there it will grow its a sketchbook who cares!! :)
I started an auto biographical journal comic on printer paper. I just draw moments where I feel stupid, or lonely, or nice moments walking outside. I don't care about anatomy or design. I draw a stupid non-lumis potato head and it looks great for it. After that I realise I need to draw trees. Or fashion models in nice clothes, or architecture. And it's freeing
That’s so cool! I’m trying to be a bit more free with my work… not so technical like forcing myself to study anatomy or gesture when I’m not feeling it.
I think it was SeanWes on an old podcast that stated simply: "Show up every day." Don't break the chain. The goal of the calendar is to have an unbroken chain of days where you 'showed up.' And even if you break the chain (as is realistically inevitable), don't break it for 2 days in a row. And even if a longer break happens, begin again as soon as you can with the same goal. This has been helpful for me who draws in binges, as I am prone to draw almost obsessively for a while...then drop off, and almost forget about drawing for a long time. But a simple goal: just show up and create something, has helped. Whether it's masterpiece, or a piece of crap, or not even a piece at all, doesn't matter. Just keep showing up. Every day I can. Love the vid CM.
I loved the story telling, dude. Especially the song at the end, it fits so well with the video and it's such a cool way to end it. For those who didn't understand the lyrics: "After 6 hours I found where to get off, I crossed the street, Stumbled upon the location. The door opened, And all my world hugged me Hugged me Hugged me"
I'm smiling at this video because I have forced myself to show up for 10 min, yes, just 10, after failing to meet my initial goal of an hour. It's been couple of weeks. Now, an hour goes by so far and I feel free in those hours. It's an amazing feeling to overcome mental resistance and ego. Do bad work, as long as it's consistent. Your mind is bound to find something good soon enough.
Love that this channel is art focused but still has such a cinematic vibe ~ dope! Honestly needed to hear that cause this first bit describes where I'm at. Latter bit describes where I'm going 💪
this is certainly not something someone would expect from a video with such title, but it is exactly what i've been looking for. sometimes it's hard to find answers to such abstract topics, but i'm glad you made it, and i'm glad you shared it with the world. thank you. today, i will draw.
Consistecy is key, that's so true! Loved the video and the song surprised me! Here's a translation of the lyrics "After six hours I found where to get off At the street I found the place The door opened And my whole world embraced me Embraced me Embraced me"
beautiful short film ! appreciate your experimenting with new formats on your channel. saved this one to my 'For Life' playlist as the message of consistent action, self-accountability, and how these are both necessary for creativity to emerge resonated with me. also, song at the end was a treat for me as a native spanish speaker. be well :)
You know, man, your videos have always had a little extra *something* about them, in the cinematography, or the editing, or in the way you use cuts to exhibit your sense of humour. And this is probably the best one yet. The fourth wall break in particular, very nicely done.
And watching this was how I realized that while I want to be a person who draws, who plays the drums, who exercises, and so on, I already am a person who writes. Every morning: Coffee, tidy, writing. It never "becomes anything", it's just thoughts, but every single day I sit down and write. I actually do that, and have done that for years now. I am a person who writes. Wow.
You are *the* most approachable artist on RUclips to me, and I don't mean like I'd walk up to you on the street and bother you while you're doing something and enjoying your day in privacy, but for some reason I feel the most comfortable commenting on your videos versus another artist. I don't think it's about numbers, but your attitude about art and making things I think. Not that others aren't nice or cool or casual, idk, I just feel that way. Like you'd be a good friend to have. Maybe that's weird, but I don't have any art friends, so I hope it's not too weird 😅
"I am studying for my finals" is a current excuse i've been using lately to convince myself not to feel guilty for not drawing. Maybe i should rebuild that discipline ans schedule my drawing hours just to keep the workflow going :) Thanks for the motivation.
I've been feeling art block lately too. It's nice to see you back with a video with how you deal with it. What sketchbook are you using? Are you still using the Traveler's Notebooks, but with a different cover?
@@ChromaMoma Awesome, thank you! I heard how great Midori paper is, but haven't tried them yet. :D I've gotten back into journaling/stationary last year and it's cool seeing the overlap with drawing and stationary on your channel ^^
