    omg you are so cute!!
and i totally relate to what you're saying girl. i feel like the reason that i sometimes go long periods without having any type of spanish exposure is because i need the quiet!! i even get overwhelmed with english often so this shouldn't be very surprising to me haha. but i'd love to see how reading more affects your screen time!

Thanks for making this video. Have been feeling like this lately and when I saw this video I was excited I wasn't alone! I had extremely low screen time before starting Spanish and now I feel guilty for how much time I spend just watching youtube. Thanks again

Absolutely the same! I need so much quiet in my life. I am not and have never been someone who can listen to things all the time. Many years ago, when I was working in a job with a lot of people time, I would drive the hour to and from work in absolute silence because I couldn’t take any more input lol. It’s like my brain and consciousness are processing so much, it feels like I’m full and I cannot add anything else to it. AND I need the silence to recuperate and feel whole again.
It’s definitely been challenging learning a language with CI and being around people (virtually) who can spend so much time taking in content. I think we’re just built differently! I need to do the dishes in silence thank you very much lol. I’ve also been focusing more on reading, but it’s been so hard to not feel guilty or like I should be listening to Spanish more often. Thank you for speaking to this!

omg i've also had those moments driving home from work where i am in just complete silence. the way you described the feeling is spot on! and so facts, online A LOT of people act like getting ci all day is nothing for them hahah so it does make the pressure feel a bit more on. thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! :D

I definitely agree. The bit you said about wanting to just listen to nature on your walks was so accurate, I feel guilty for not using it for "immersion practice time", but I just want to listen to the quiet! For me the screen time / constant noise time really racks up not just because of immersion but also because all my cuecards and study is also done on the computer. Somedays I'm like "damn I really wish I had stuck to paper and pen". Even though I'm really happy with my set up, the screen time really bugs me. Loved the video!

it can lowkey be so hard to find a balance that fits you just right, especially when you feel pressure from everyone who makes speed running a language seem so effortless!! hahah :') i'm glad this video resonated! :D i feel everything you said!

2-4 hours a day? Girl, you are a low-key speedrunner to me, LOL! That is an incredible goal to meet every day. I completely understand what you mean by needing to shut out the noise. We will definitely need breaks in this language-learning journey, or we will experience tons of burnout. Sometimes, I feel that the attachment to the numbers on DS can be motivating, but I realize how obsessive I (and others that I have seen on different social media feeds) get in reaching a specific number. The number matters less if you aren't actively taking in the CI. I appreciate you making the video. Helps me reflect on my on journey

OMG yes! "the number matters less if you arent actively taking in the CI" truest thing ever and the perfect reminder for why breaks are truly needed, alongside mental health being the upmost important thing. i think i'm finding solace in reading as it's so calming and... quiet. hahah and definitely going back to the drawing board on how i wanna approach what i'm doing for listening. bc WHEW. i'm glad you enjoyed this video! i think it's an imp topic bc a lot of people speedrun like it's nothing. but like. ITS A LOT. lmfao

Right there with you my friend! I give myself breaks too but then I feel guilty. I was telling Greg that I have to get over the idea of increasing that almighty progress number! That total input number! curse that number! hahaha! It makes me feel guilty for not working on it more than I should. I'm even in a Spanish speaking country and it's still hard to be motivated ALL the time! I gave up on reaching my goal every day. As long as I do something I'm cool. My mental health is so much more important lately. Lately, I've been listening to music instead or I listen to frequencies (Yes, I am totally that type of person!) On the days, I have the energy, I go for it. On the other days, Spanish takes a back burner. It sucks cuz I know that it's delaying my learning but I have to live in the present moment. Good Luck girlie! Little by little, a little becomes a lot!

@@GregandLisaLewis-vz6ut LOVE this!! bc YESSS x100 hahah it's really that number and trying to reach those goals that cause some feelings of guilt. and its highkey a lot after so much time of it! and i so get that, living in a spanish speaking country myself, i feel the same. hahah also love that, i'm a frequency type too and honestly should incorporate it more, it'd help sm!! i think it's awesome you've let yourself relax in your approach, cuz i need to do quite a bit more relaxing myself lol right now i'm okay with reaching half of my goal on the harder days, so it's something. but yeah, we probably get more out of taking breaks than forcing our brains to power through something it has v low capacity to fully give energy to!

same, twins. i’ve been dealing with a lot of mental health “noise” in my head recently and sometimes, a lot of the times, the quiet is just better. but.. gotta get that input, haha. glad to know i’m not the only one here! we’ll figure it out for sure!!! xoxo

@@lvrgirlsiah yeah fr, its real important to get in that time for yourself! and to lower the amount of input youre doing for a while if it's truly what you need at the moment! we got this tho!

For sureee lol. It didn’t bother me nearly as much when I had an anti social job, but when I started to actually have to speak to humans in my day to day (lol) I was like omg I’m so overstimulated I need a break

People really dont talk about it. Im married with kids and drive alot for work, so i use that time to get about an hour or two per day. If i miss some days im not hard on myself. that's just good for overall mental health. Find what works best for you and adjust as needed, learning a new language should be enjoyable.

driving and getting your hours in simultaneously is such a nice way to sneak in input! and for sure, mental health is the most important thing tbh and so is enjoying the journey of language learning!
