Congrats on 800 hours. HUGE accomplishment! And I'm like you - I live in a Spanish speaking country and I obviously speak when I need to and I try to always speak Spanish at stores and stuff, but I just don't feel ready to pour it on. I kinda got ripped on the subreddit for not taking the opportunity to speak here. But I'll do it at my own pace. I can see the progress, so I'm not worried (okay, I'm a little worried 😂). And oh my gosh yes...taking 4 hours to do 1 hour! If only I wouldn't get sidetracked I could be at 1500 hours by now (I'm at 750ish)!!! It drives me nuts how much time I waste because I get bored and can't focus. I spend way too much time looking at the DS website for something I think I'll like instead of just grinding through. So I'm a dingaling. I have that Chrome add-on and I use it to look at the levels and the upload dates on the DS website, but how do you get it to add your RUclips hours? I feel like that would be a game changer for me. Keep up the great work!!!
@@InputGuerreraEspañol thank you!! :D ahh i'm sorry people tried to call you out for that! i think living in a spanish speaking country seems like an amazing opportunity and it is, but truthfully it really feels amazing when you have wayyyy more hours. so far, i've just felt a lot of pressure and sometimes being here just highlights how i'm totally not where i wanna be yet! i love living here, but it can be overwhelming at the same time :') but its whatever, it takes time and you def gotta do what feels best for you! AND SAME. its like i have probably spent more time looking for my next watch than actually watching on some days 😅 so i've gotten the chrome add-on to work by having dreaming spanish open in one tab and then having my youtube history open in the other. usually a little orange button will pop up that you can click on to transfer the time watched on a video to your DS time. sometimes it doesnt work immediately and i'll just refresh or reopen the tabs and the little button eventually shows up! hopefully this helps :) thanks once again, and same to you!!
Oh hey another DS learner! Spanish is my 3rd language and the last time I studied spanish was for 30hrs almost 20 years ago in high school where I barely paid attention. I stopped translating in my head in the first 10-20 hours. Growing up my family spoke to me in one language and everyone else spoke to me another, so that might be why I don't need to take the scenic route when hearing spanish lol
@@syth-jg8lw ooooh okay, that makes sm sense tbh. i have a friend who only started learning spanish a few months ago, but she told me she already stopped translating in her head. and i was like 🤯 jdkdskjds but spanish is her 3rd language as well! def makes sense when you already have 2 under your belt, getting passed that mental block is a bit smoother. really cool! :D
Te entiendo completamente con los videos de gente jugando videojuegos! No me gusta jugar yo, pero esos videos son adictivos. Que otra persona se frustre si no le salen las cosas y yo me divierto 😅
I think the biggest advice to stop translating in your head is to just ignore it. Don’t actively do it, but don’t actively try not to do it because then you are still focused on that in a way. I have 15+ years of off and on Spanish learning prior to DS and at ~640 hours I still translate in my head some but the more input I do, the less it gets over time. I also notice it way more when I try to watch stuff that’s a bit too hard. I’m confident it will work itself out in time if I keep going with input and don’t try to push myself outside of what comfortable for me (some new words and stuff but still like 98% or more comprehensible).
@@TheOneChannelToRuleThemAll thanks so much for your insight!! i'm the same, i just keep thinking the more input i get eventually it'll go away!! and its definitely minimized overtime, but its still there. i actually noticed with slower/easier content i translate in my head more because i have the time to! but with native content, theyre going so fast i dont wanna get left behind and i'm actually catching way more without translating. and then i realize im not translating and im like omg! then i start translating, and i end up lost. hahahah its so weird. your advice definitely makes sense! i just need to relax and let it flow, without forcing anything~
I totally agree that you basic develop a new brain when learning a new language. Super impressive that you understand a Cuban:) I love their accent but they are so hard to comprehend! Watching and reading loads of easy stuff, and repetition in general, stops you translating in your head
you actually speak English very fast that would give non English speakers pause in understanding.
i definitely notice that when i'm editing my videos, like yikes i need to slow down 😅 i'll definitely work on that in upcoming videos!!
