I have done the same thing on my XRT, and it runs great. The original pinion spur broke multiple times, since I have done this upgrade it has not been an issue.
Just stripped out my garbage B&M Gears. I use wfo gears. I’m going back to that. I make a notch where the gear grub screw sits. And d bore gears are the way to go. Wfo has that D bore design. Great video and great info! 👍
So actually noticed on my xmaxx that the pinion wasn't tapped all the way through so the grub screw would bottom out in pinion before fully grabbing flat on motor. Quick run of tap and problem solved.
Hi buddy I run a 1600kv in one of my X Maxx's with with maxx 5 esc and I'm very happy with power and torque. I've had that problem but cleaning all the cast steal fragments and putting machined pinion gears and spur fixed the problem..
I drench my Pinon and set screw in red Loctite. Never had an issue with it coming off. And when needing to get the pinion off I heat it with a propane torch as to only let the tip of the flame hit the set screw. Hold it there about 5 - 8 seconds and boom easy come off... Counting on that flat spot as backup if the set screw comes out is a no no that can round out easy. I can send pics or vid if you want of what I do.
No I did all that. Nothing has ever worked till the Arrma Dsafe pinion. I’ve put about 5 runs on it now and I’m still not having issues. Best mod I’ve done for the xmaxx yet.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs hey good to hear it... However you get it done... I went thru about 5 pinions and 7 - 10 spurs so I'm keeping fingers crossed. The ones in now have been bashed to heck for 3 weeks now!
Ive just tried this and I'm going to wait for the locktite to dry. I know the feeling of the stock gears a d this happening constantly. You definately do need to dremmel the motor shaft though.
@@xuimod I made it through 1 fully charged set of packs with this gear. The set screw continues to back loose. It would have walked off the motor shaft except I ended up drilling a divot hole where the set screw goes so it stayed on the shaft but rocked and wobbled on the motor shaft. I felt that this could lead to incorrect mesh and gear damage. I am now trying the Tekno pinion with the larger M5 set screw and will see how that works.
I want my 1600xl back, my 1600 seized up after 3-4 years so Traxxas sent me a new one for 100 bucks, problem is it’s a 1200, there’s a huge difference in speed and power
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs when you do it, please talk about it in a video. Im running 17/54 and about 15mins of hard running my motor is like 165 to 170. So i wana upgrad my fans. I dont think they push air good enough
I was running 17/54 for a while and never had problems. I put hatchet tires on so i put 18/54 back on and now i cant get mine pinion to stay on. Does the arrma 18 pinion work with a stock traxxas 54 spur
Any chance they fixed this on the newer models? I just bought the xmaxx a couple days ago but haven't been able to drive it yet because we had a couple big snow storms.
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs yes bashing and temps are good!!i had trenchers on with 22/50 and she did 48 mph!!the trenchers kept the wheelies down a little more but the scorpions are a little lighter!bash on !!!
That arrma pinion is how they all should be 👍
You would think eh. So simple, but makes sense.

awesome upgrades, test them out with some real bashing
I run 20/50 and have been bashing with that. Been good so far.
Glad you got the pinion issue solved 👍
I had the same problems so I sold it. But now seeing that this pinion is available I just bought another one 😏😏

Do you have part number for the spur and pinion?

Armondo Pace thanks a lot appreciate it
Hey man, 4 months on is the pinion still holding? 😅
Red or green threadlock bud
Never miss your videos,,,great stuff,,,,just curious though what temps are you running with that combo....thanks jim
Not sure. I had forgot my temp gun when I went out. Next time I run I’ll make sure to get some readings and post them in the description.
I never have a problem with my X-Maxx. The pinion was loose from the factory and I tightened it.
Nice. Did yo paint the body or have it hydro dipped? Tyia

How did it work out for you?

Jason Perrin yep
Hey buddy awesome truck I really like yr Wheels better then the prolines what are they called
They make a Traxxas machined pinion now and a wider tooth spur, I’ve had no problem since
Do you have part number for those?
jose rifaie 6491R pinion 18t / 6449R 54t both Traxxas numbers
RC Maxx Bash you r Awsome thanks alot
jose rifaie no problem, I checked my email receipts, I think I got those on - eBay/ @ power hobby, never knew traxxas had machined pinions
RC Maxx Bash yeah me neither thanks again
Do those castle fans do a better job than the velineon fans that come on the stock 8s motor
They are same brand fan just larger. My plan is to replace those with even better fans.

Careful putting your finger in there with the truck on. Could cause a very bad day for something that can easily be turned off

they're both 18T. Why would it not work.
So. How has it been holding up?

nice video, punch level is it at 5?
4 or 5. I can't remember.

What is about that flying with these cars in these video’s what is the use, what is the fun, buy a plane if you want to fly.
1600kv is way better plus I would use green Loctite
