Why do you have to ask if Pearsall is tough? He bounces up immediately from hits. He doesn’t shy away from going over the middle. His famous one handed catch saw him getting drilled immediately by 2 guys, holding onto the ball and jumping up right away. Toughness is not a question.

We'll see how effective Pearsall is against an NFL secondary come preseason--and more importantly during regular and postseason. At my peak I had a 40-inch vertical and could run a 4.4 40-yard dash--yet no one came knocking with D-1 offers to play football. For now I'm leaning towards Grant Cohn's take.

Let me say this: I think that someday Ricky Pearsall will be the 49ers No. 1 receiver, ahead of Aiyuk, Deebo, Kittle, and Jennings. Time will tell. The 49ers have drafted some really good players this draft, to improve the team. We have some very good ones. I also said when they drafted Lance that Trey Lance would be an absolute bust and a total complete flop, and everybody screamed at me, including Grant Cohn, but I was right. Trey was a nice guy, but too timid. They that screamed at me were wrong. I said that Brock Purdy would be a winner, and would win at least one Super Bowl, back when he first started and won the starting job. Few believed me. Larry Kruegar believed somewhat the same as me about Brock early. Then, Purdy went to the Super Bowl, and almost won, in his second season. This year will only be his third season. By the way, Mahomes can be beaten in the Super Bowl. Brady did it. Brock Purdy beat Brady 31 to 3. It depends what day it is, and alot of other factors.

😂 Agree, can't see a lot in mini camp. Fan rant. While Pearsall might be a very good WR, was he really a player of need for Niners at 31. You already said, WR might not as high a priority, many FAs available, many WRs come in the draft every yr. While OT are hard to find in draft. Williams is 36?, could retire anytime. O-line takes time to transition to Pro, per Vish. So why not have Williams replacement on the team now, learning from the best now. The O-line is rank #20-28, right side is considered the weak link. This O-line did get to SB, but Brock ability to make off schedule plays save them. Aiyuk was only targeted a few times in SB. How getting another receiver helps, if Brock doesn't have time to pass. The Chiefs n other teams know the Niners weakness is O-line. Crazy, Niners trade pick with SB rival, so they can pick an OT. Another concern, D-line. Kyle/Niners used to build D-line thru draft. Now, they use re-trends. Guys on 1-2 yr contract, who are older, looking for their next payday. The DC has to mesh these guys into a cohesive unit n built chemistry with guys who will be gone at end of season. The draft haven't yielded many impact players lately. Kyle /Niners supposed to know what doing. Drafted Trey? But drafted Brock too. Hits n misses. Weird. Keep, Ayiuk, Jennings, n draft Pearsall, Cowing, sign Owens son. There are 10 WRs for 5-6 spots on 53. Jennings or Bell come in on 3rd downs, does Pearsall replace Jennings, then why keep him. Per history, Kyle doesn't use much 4-5 WR sets. Kyle favor vets, but team is getting older. Need to get younger, better, cheaper. Need to pay Aiyuk, Brock, etc....2025. Hopefully, Niners got better. Defense got many changes. Offense got a few. Let camp battles begin.

Good breakdown, Larry. Pearsall could be great, could be a non-factor. We wont know for years possibly. Taking him at 31 was a D-. At 31, the reciever should have breakaway speed. He should be a burner, and a TD machine, Like xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell. I wanted to trade up to 15 and take a great tackle, like you talked about on your show. I wanted to take Powers Johnson, best center in the draft, at 31. We got a long shot in Pearsall, who isnt gonna play much as long we have so many other dudes. Niners should have traded up from 63 to 45 to get Pearsall, and if he was taken, take a great cornerback at 45. I am disgusted still by this selection. The only way I will feel good about it, is if he plays alot, right away, and he plays like a superstar. Thats what great first round wR's do. I expect him to flop, because the niners are so bad at drafting and they always seem to get it wrong.

    • @aj7utu
      @aj7utu 20 дней назад

No. 31 an immediate producers? Not guaranteed for anyone. This is a good slot guy, possession guy, I think. Unlike Krueger, I don’t think his getting plastered over the middle is that big of an issue. Why? Indeed, he may not be able to maintain separation with the best corners, but I think he will get run down from behind and be able to use his speed and quickness to avoid damage. I think he’s more similar to Aiyuk than people realize. Aiyuk’s touchdowns are mostly on blown coverage, and he’s often run down inside the 10. Amendola and Edelman are poor comparisons. Genetically, they had to be inordinately tough to survive, and both had many injury shortened season. A better comparison is Welker, who was smaller but quicker. And Pearsall has a better catch radius than Welker.

He doesn’t play to his timed speed. Go look at the 2023 Mizzou game and that early catch and long run. He cooked Rakestraw on the route - did a great job separating. In fact he cooked Rakestraw so badly that Rakestraw fell down. But then something happened that absolutely should not have happened for a guy with real deep speed - after Rakestraw fell down, he was able to get up and chase down and tackle Pearsall well before he got into the end zone. “Oh well that must mean Rakestraw is a real fast guy.” That’s the problem. Rakestraw is NOT a fast guy. He runs mid 4.5s to 4.6! A guy with REAL JUICE, e.g. Legette and McConkey among others, would NEVER have been caught by a slow ass Rakestraw who actually fell on his face on the play! There’s NO WAY a guy with REAL deep speed gets caught by Rakestraw on that play. No way.

Ricky Pearsall has NOTHING in common with those Wrs you're comparing him to with the exception of being WHITE. Just because Pearsall is white don't mean he can't be compare to a black wr. Those white wrs mentioned lacks elite athleticism, Pearsall plays more like Aiyuk(quick, shifty, route running, solid catch radius, acrobatic catches etc) than any of those white wrs, even close in combine numbers.
    Aiuk vertical 40"
    Ricky vertical 42"
    Aiyuk 40 4.50
    Ricky 40 4.41
    Aiyuk 10 yd spilit 1.52
    Ricky 10 yd split 1.57
    Aiyuk Broad jump 10' 8"
    Ricky Broad jump 10' 9"
    Prospect grade
Aiyuk 6.38 (Will Eventually Be Plus Starter)
Ricky 6.32 (Will Eventually Be Plus Starter)
    Total score
    Aiyuk 79 (good)
    Ricky 78 (good)
Comparing Pearsall to white wrs is a lazy thing to do. He's more athletic than 100% of white wrs in the NFL..

Minicamps are a joke for anyone to make an evaluation.....Right now people are acting like Williams is the greatest QB to come out of college, why don't we wait until he actually plays against a team with a top 10 defense, when he can be sacked....Right now every QB looks good, it's easy to throw the ball to open guy not in pads playing against no one.

The truth about Pearsall is that he's not played a single NFL snap and so nobody has a clue if he's any good or not.
