Unless you are a seasoned hymn singer you wouldn't understand how hard it is to sing this hymn,,,most churches have forgotten this. This is the back bone of the Baptist Church,
Olé Lord this song brings back soo many memories when I was a young child growing up. I miss my father (RIP Daddy 😢😢)! I didn’t understand then what I know now as a saved Christian woman! Thank you Lord!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Now let us all go back... Back to the old landmarks. . . These songs, these prayer songs, these testimony songs were foundational to the worship experience in the local Black Baptist Church. Learned to carry a tune and hold a note singing these hymns. We must not lost the legacy of this music that "brought us over". We must share with our children and if possible their children. . . Perhaps you are not aware, songs in this rythm and cadence take us all the way back to Mother Aftrica.
+Difen Crosby At 43, I'm mature enough to appreciate the ol' school gospel and enjoy the new. I love traditional church music, but I must say I have to give props to the youngish artists of my generation like Kirk Franklin and the newer crop of worshippers. I think God gives each generation a fresh perspective and anointing. Kirk's songs can reach a generation for Christ this Reverand's style might not appeal to.
Very few if any. Glad I could be of help to you. Every now and then Pastor Jackson (my dad) pulls out a hymn. We can't lose it as a part of our tradition and heritage. This was what the church sounded like before we had instruments. Let me know how it turns out in your class. I'd love to hear the feedback. xoxo
Sometimes you just have to sit and remember when they sung hymns like this and what it meant to the African American people. This stirs something in your soul that you can't describe! Can I get a witness? But if you listen long enough, it soothes all doubts and calms all fears!! It's REAL folks!!!!
We can thank God for modern technology which allows us to not forget. And that you Pastor's Daughter for sharing. This is sho' making my work day go a whole lot greater!
I agree. This is how it was done before we had instruments. There's nothing like hearing all the voices come together as one great choir. We make our own music.
@@sweet-lullabies I know it’s a hard pill to swallow. Took me sometime to accept this truth. Even my own father started cursing and was angry. It doesn’t mean we should ask them to acknowledge us
OMG! I am loving You Tube! This is just what I needed. I wish I could hear it in the churches I visit these days! We grew up on these soul stirring gospel hymns!
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (August 29), we sang When Long Before Time as the Hymn of the Day. It is #861 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. It was written and composed by Peter W.A. Davison and set to the tune, THE SINGER AND THE SONG. George Black, 1931-2003, arranged the tune.
its more spiritual than the natural death. you have to hear some more of these songs to understand what is being said. they were always talking about death but as I get older I realized death to them only meant change.
Rev. Johnson is a very good pastor and singer. I enjoyed being a part of his choir. He is my church District Moderator. So I get a chance to hear him sang every now and then. His whole family got it going on when it comes to singing.
Wonderful, I am going to show this video to my university music class tomorrow (we are talking about the roots of African American musical traditions, and this video is an excellent example of one of the earliest strains of African American sacred vocal music). It's so strange that there aren't more videos of this style on RUclips. I have visited Collinsville (near East. St. Louis) a few years ago, to see the Cahokia Native American site, which is fascinating.
At Southern Mission Baptist Church in East St. Louis, IL across the river from St. Louis, MO About 5-10 minutes from downtown STL If you're ever in the area, please drop by to visit us.
Pastor Jackson has sang a hymn, I would like all the words to. What will you do when Jesus comes. And you have failed to pray. (I need the others verses) I would love for someone to repost Pastor Jackson singing that song.
The time has come. Scriptures fullfilled and the 400 year old curse IS OVER! Love Q-PID : ) Zion wont be singin another year, but "How Great Thou Art!" ect...

This is our foundation, what will the next generations have.
They will have Kirk Franklin promoting degenerate behaviour all for a dollar.

Even though i'm not that old, it took me back to the days we had to fight to be free from bondage.
