Shoutout to my boy Johnny who introduced me this song when I was like 13 or 14 and still figuring out what music I enjoyed. He mostly listened to rap and hip hop but he got it right with this one. Love ya man wherever you are!
I saw all 3 ska waves, and I can assure you... It has never been "cool" or "popular." If anything, I think the individuality of being "the only ska kid" at your school (as most of us were) is far more acceptable now than in decades past. Check out some mid 80s Molly Ringwald movies... You'll see what I mean. That said: we share a similar taste in music, but don't stop here... Keep expanding your musical diversity. Jazz and Reggae are great genre's, too, if you haven't already. :)
This band always brings me back to when I got into ska and reggae. Weird how shit seems so long ago yet it feels like yesterday. Always have the years of positive vibes (y)
My favorite part is right after he says " this is what you're hummin' on" and the guitar is plucked - then the drums start. Beautiful song - I've never heard anything like it!
Both versions of the album are great, but I prefer the sound of the vocals on the Catch 22 one. His voice when he was younger just sounds a little sharper, and it really benefits from that.
Catch 22 may have lost tom, but are still a pretty awesome band in there own right. Yes they do play a fair few old songs but when i saw them live the vast majority of the set came from their other 3(excellent) albums.
ya know catch or streetlight tomas don't care as long as you listen and sing along!!!!!!! just saw TOH KAY in long beach CA on dec 20 2014 AMAZING ALL BY HIMSELF!!!! keep it up tomas I don't care what you call your band I will be there!!!!!!!!
Streetlight Manifesto- Great Band, sounds more clean, faster tempos. Catch 22- Also a great Band, sounds more raw, slower (most of the time) but has a better emotional connection.
this song just puts me in such a good mood this is something u just play this and everything is gonna get bouncing in no time xD everyone will be partyin and having fun as the guy says in the song something like this one goes out to you it goes out to everyone
guys am I lucky!!! I found this band out through a pin my friend gave me because she didnt like the band!!! I bet if she listened to it she'd LOVE THEM!!! I love this band now and so awesome
the origional Catch-22...one of the best ska bands ever. Sad to say this is one of there last songs ever done with the origional members.. Still a great song.
I love ska soooo much. I need to make a new ska playlist, I lost a lot of my music about 6 years ago, any suggestions on other good bands I might be missing?
thomas was in catch 22 and wrote those songs in catch 22 then he went to streetlight and he has the writes for the keasby nights album so thats why streetlight did it 2
Ska (pronounced /ˈskɑː/, Jamaican [skja]) is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s, and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae.[1] Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. It is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the upbeat.
so true! i also think the streetlight manifesto version sounds a bit too "clean". the lower production values on the catch 22 version make it sound warmer somehow, i don't know how to explain it.
Im a teen as well and I enjoy the music along with only a few of my friends. We all loved so many genres and ska includes so many like punk, reggae, rock, etc. Its truly the best type of music.
@SkateboardBassguitar well, catch22's singer from this album, who started streetlight manifesto, thought this album sounded pretty much like crap. so re-recorded it with streetlight. i like both, but definitely like the new stuff. hope this helps
Can't believe this amazing album was written by a 16 year old kid at the time.
+Chandler Nimrod He was 18 when the album came out
+Nickthefiretype written
+CawCewJew and?
He was 16 when he wrote this entire album. it was released when he was 18
fucking imbecile
22 years later still listening to this.
Its great
Just saw them this weekend

As long as you don't act like an expert about it, there's nothing wrong with being a newer ska fan. I've only been into ska for like 7 months.
Make a video about Ska!
Poser

Been rocking these guys since I was a kid! Love them.
This song always brings me back, too. Love Catch 22.

I love how he cracks up and laughs around 3:56
I loved them all!!! Best concert of my life!
I highly recommend Streetlight Manifesto and Bandits of The Acoustic Revolution if you're needing more of the lead singer, Tomas Kalnoky
This band always brings me back to when I got into ska and reggae. Weird how shit seems so long ago yet it feels like yesterday. Always have the years of positive vibes (y)
Old memories, good memories...
absolutely a great, utter fantastic song. Had a rough time last night, and i gotta say this song helped
this song freaked me out the first time i heard it, now it's freakin amazing.
If you can skank to it, it's ska.
I don't know about you, but hot damn I can skank pretty hard to this song.
No
Tell that to Bob Marley
Yea this is a Ska song but kinky reggea isn't and I can sank to it lol
I can skank to hardcore
Daniel Hastie without ska, Reggae wouldn't exist
Saw catch 22 in 2004, one of the funest shows i ever been to.
My favorite part is right after he says " this is what you're hummin' on" and the guitar is plucked - then the drums start.
Beautiful song - I've never heard anything like it!
Me and my Papa skanked to this so many times! R.I.P. Dad! Love you ❤ x
Both versions of the album are great, but I prefer the sound of the vocals on the Catch 22 one. His voice when he was younger just sounds a little sharper, and it really benefits from that.
When the "whoa"s hit, my best friend goes "where do you find such good music?!"
a million thumbs up for this, it's not a matter of how long you've been listening, but how much the music means to you
That drum is almost blast beat haha
Catch 22 may have lost tom, but are still a pretty awesome band in there own right. Yes they do play a fair few old songs but when i saw them live the vast majority of the set came from their other 3(excellent) albums.
No they fucking suck past the second album
i like the ending to this version more than the remake.
Fun Fact.
If you know you are crazy, you aren't really crazy...
Underrated comment.
If I wasn't crazy , I'd be insane!

Streetlight Manifesto- Great Band, sounds more clean, faster tempos.
Catch 22- Also a great Band, sounds more raw, slower (most of the time) but has a better emotional connection.
Hey man, I was a little kid when this came out in 98'. It doesnt really matter when you discover a band, only matters that you discovered them.
Love this band
this song just puts me in such a good mood this is something u just play this and everything is gonna get bouncing in no time xD everyone will be partyin and having fun as the guy says in the song something like this one goes out to you it goes out to everyone

its interesting to listen to gimp, then catch 22, and then streetlight...u can really hear how his voiced changed throughout all three bands
love this song .....grow up
those and reel big fish are my favorite ska bands along with catch 22
My friend just showed me this song and I feel in love with it.
1234 1234 for years this song has kicked ass
I've loved catch 22 since i was a little kid
Catch 22, when Tom was in it. Streetlight redid Keasbey Nights some years ago, so there are two studio versions of every Keasbey Nights song.
I love this song
@SkateboardBassguitar well, catch22's singer from this album, who started streetlight manifesto, thought this album sounded pretty much like crap. so re-recorded it with streetlight. i like both, but definitely like the new stuff. hope this helps
I'm sure I've watched this at least 200 times :)
favorite song in the entire world, fits the average teenagerish feelings heh
Well, streetlight manifesto's first Cd had the original bassist and singer/songwriter of Catch22 and still has Catch 22's singer.
It cracks me up that he cracks up near the end of the song. XD
I LOVE THIS SONG
It IS pretty sweet. As a non-ska fan myself I really like the point of the song.
@MonstersxEatxPeople doesn't ska refer to anything with a brass instrumental in it? i cant hear one in this?
I love this version so much >_
@neppersdoor HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA! Hilarious dude.
any more really good ones?
catch 22 is new to me so its nice to know there more good ska out there
Keasby nights
