    It's quite refreshing seeing a more... positive(?) review of Cobra. Usually everyone just jumps aboard the hate wagon, but from what I've seen it looks passable enough as far as 80's action films go and let's face it, there are far far worse films out there.
    Good stuff as always Decker.

    • @tylerskiss
      @tylerskiss 9 лет назад +1

      faolan1686 exactly what I was going to mention. You can see the similarities too. Because... well, there's a cop. And, well, they spend some time in Los Angeles, so there's that... though, I guess he already lived there when the film began. Oh, and he wears jeans! How could I forget that? I mean, aside from, well... everything else, including the race of the main character, both films are practically indistinguishable. Also, Cobra wouldn't fall for a banana in the tailpipe either- cos he's shoot you to death if you tried it! See, practically the exact same film.

Sure this movie may have not been so well received when it came out, and some may consider the character to be a Dirty Harry knock off, but I just really enjoy the movie for what it is. It's a fun comic book style action movie from the 80's that I just love to watch. I hope one day we will get an extended cut to this too.

    the problem with the rape reports is that they often bunch so many non raped women into the rape women selection on really bullshit reasons. Like one of the two famous studies that people like to say will be their proof for 1 out of every 4 or 5 women being raped includes things like "Being asked to perform sex at the end of a date when it wasn't already planned for that night" as well as "A surprise kiss on the lips at the door before parting ways for the night" get classified as rape. As you can understand, a lot of people call foul on this type of bullshit when most feminist try to claim these studies. Now if you was going off of one of these I don't know. but chances are if you went off of studies from the 80's they are. Hope I didn't get to ranty while explaining this.

    • @DeckerShado
      @DeckerShado  9 лет назад +7

      Ginzington Schnizer Yeah, I know the 1 in 5 statistic is pretty well bullshit through and through.. the statistics I looked up were the official crime stats from 1985. I'm relatively sure they weren't counting up to 1 in 5, as that would have come to a number that would look like 23,790,000 rapes, as opposed to the number the statistics showed, 88,260 rapes.
      It gets REALLY fun when people start arguing about the discrepency between the genders in rape statistics though, blissfully unaware that unless she shoves a finger up his ass, female on male rape isn't considered rape by the legal definition. It must involve penetration by the perpetrator. Thus, a woman could drug, tie down, and force a gay man to have sex with her.. and it could be 100% proven, on tape and everything, but the most you could charge her with is assault of some kind. The only one that could be guilty of rape in that situation, thanks to the legal definition, would be the tied down and drugged man.

    • @ginzingtonschnizer2330
      @ginzingtonschnizer2330 9 лет назад +5

      Decker Shado luckily not everywhere in the US has that ruling on rape. in some states there are "Forced to penetrate" rape rules but sadly it's only like 3 or 4 states in the union.

    Fun fact: George Cosmatos' son, Panos Cosmatos, directed his own movies couple decades later, including Beyond the Black Rainbow, a personal guilty pleasure that really REALLY needs attentions of one of the major reviewers. Soundtracks awesome, the cinematography is stark and colorful (as well as a bit trippy) and the bio-mechanical being employed briefly in the movie, the Sentionaut, is essentially what Borderlands ripped off for the look of Zer0 from the second game. Interesting fact, right before this movie came out, there was an actual serial killer they called the night stalker, who terrorized so cal in the summer of 1985. I’m guessing the studio wanted to capitalize on the zeitgeist of the Los Angeles area at the time, for the sake of realism, so they called him the night slasher, a slight, very obvious derivative. So the studio didn’t think the audience was dumb. They just wanted to evoke the same emotion felt by everyone living in the metro at the time, which included me, which is why I remember.

      I was gonna say the same thing. Decker seems pretty knowledgeable on the topic of firearms. It made me wonder how he could mess this up. Of course no one is infallible, but you get a good look at his pistol in the opening. Maybe the 9mm variant has to do with that, but the 1911 is mainly known for being a .45.

    I remember when we first rented this on VHS. Even back then, it had something of a reputation of being a "bad" movie. But, I suspect that between most people not knowing that it was cut for time, and people generally short-selling many fun action movies, people looking to use it as a proper example of a bad movie have been greatly disappointed. My friends and I have always liked it.

      "People short-selling many fun action movies" *Looks at Die Hard, Predator, Commando, Robocop, Lethal Weapon, Cyborg etc* Uh...Yeah, no. People just appreciated good, fun action movies rather really weird and dour ones.

    Dude I would love to see how Sylvester Stallone as Cobra would do against Freddy or Jason.

    Excellent review which I have enjoyed to watch several times. If you liked this movie then I could suggest giving Splitsecond with Rutger Hauer a watch, its in the same theme but add sci fiction and a demon/monster as a vilain, pretty sure you would love it :)

    I'm going a 4.5 out of 5 for this movie. I almost went for a 5 out of 5 rating.....
    Ahh...what the hat. I'm giving it 5 out of 5! It's one of my quirky, guilty pleasures. When you've got a Main Character like Sylvester Stallone, suggesting that a couple of people in the movie should eat more healthy, then you're dealing with an extra-special Cop.
    Hey! At least he cares about people!
