Jay Metcalf from @bettersax plays over our backing track for the classic jazz standard Fly Me to the Moon. This track comes with Essential Jazz Repertoire Vol 2, a collection of great tunes for practice and performance.
Jay is playing his Jody Jazz DV NY mouthpiece on a Yanagisawa TW33 tenor saxophone.
Such a full sound.
Nice tune hopefully one day I can remember the whole tune like that just now starting on the sax tenor for the last at least four years I am now 67 of age I love this sax practicing everyday I hear myself getting there soon thanks be safe God blessing to all
Well done, I hope to have a tone like that one day
thank you Jack
Bist Absolut die Nr1 unter den tenoristen--deine vortraege super sachlich - - - schade , dass ich kein Wort Englisch kann -.....
NO BODY BETTER THAN METCAF .. HE OWNS THE SAXOPHONE TEACHING COURSES AS THE BEST TEACHER IN THE BIZ .. GO BABY GO .. BOBBY G..
Jay, you remind me of the excellence of the great tenor masters via your great tone, articulation and melodic improvisation.
I am thinking especially of Lester Young, Paul Quinnochett, Paul Gonzales, Frank Wess and, yes, Clifford Jordan, Zoot Sims, Junior Cook and Scott Hamilton.
Very well played
Ohh, nice Scott Hamilton sound vibe! Lovely
Beautiful 👍
Thank you 😊
Excellente interprétation sur un excellent saxophone ténor, pour un des meilleurs le bec parfait avec une des meilleur ligature tout cela est excellent bravo merci
Many thanks for this, Jay. You are my 'go to guy' for sax teaching resources. For those who don't know, you can transcribe this magnificent solo by clicking settings (the wheel symbol found on the bottom right of the screen) then selecting one of the slowdown options (suggest you do 50% first to get your ear in, then move up to 75%). Start with four or five notes. Hum them to yourself a couple of times then pick them out on your sax. I would do a couple of phrases a day, then really master them before you move onto the next ones. SOOO much improvement in just a week of effort.
Jay you are the top guy. Such a great player, but a lovely easy teaching manner too. I've learned so much from you.
I Agree 100%
This is amazing
So glad to receive your email for new track!
Your sound is like a glass of redwine.🍷I like it. ........thought it's a old Selmer sax, but then i have read the description!😅👍🔝🎷Thank you for your work!

haha thanks for listening that closely and into the 3rd chorus...
Jay, just coming across this video 2 years after you posted it. Wow ! … that’s a lot of notes !! Well done sir. No disrespect… but I love your tenor playing than the alto. Maybe, because I am partial to the lower sounds resonance of a tenor. Again, nicely done mate.
Jay, nice all the songs . i Will Write you to Night by Email
Better Sax tenor coming soon? 👀
Probably coming but I don't know about soon...
Your choices are so pleasing ..transcript of your solo?
I notice that you're playing with a lip forward embouchure on the tenor here.
Do you find that to be a vital change from playing the alto? I'm picking up the Tenor again after 25 years and there's a lot to (re)learn. Thanks Jay 👍
Wow! wonderfully done. Do you have any advice to achieve such a warm tone? I know I most likely would need to upgrade my mouthpiece and reed setup, but from a technical point of view. Perhaps you have a video you could recommend? I've been trying to get something similar all year, and I feel like there's something technique-wise that I'm missing. I"d like to lock that in before purchasing a new mouthpiece - the one I'm looking at is upwards of $500usd - so I'd like to know I have the techniques to put it to use prior to purchasing. I've always played classical, but now that I'm retired with a lot more free time I have been playing more casual stuff with friends and I'd like to improve my tone in that style :) Thanks either way for sharing such a wonderful performance with us :)
watch my @bettersax videos on tone production. It takes a lot of daily practice over a long period of time.
Hi Jay, everything is beautiful. What videocamera did you use? Thank you
Great full tone..... very smooth..... and in C Concert. Checked with my flute.... What key is that for you?
D on tenor
WOW. This was amazing. By the way, do you have a recommendation for a ligature at the price range of about $20-$35, that follows all the criteria of your ligatures video? Anyways, have a great day and keep up all the great content.
Get a rovner!
@@TWO20 Thanks, I've heard and considered them for a while now. But do they security hold the reed on the mouthpiece when your pushing and pulling it on the neck. And basically the criteria on better saxes video about ligatures? Anyway, thank you!!!
@@TWO20 oh, and what model, cause there are a few.
@@joaquinmendoza2306 rovner versa is the way to go!
@@Cozyjoe_ thank😁
Thought you were playing the dv Chicago these days! Sounds great with this piece.
That is great too. Maybe I'll record the next one on that piece.
Do you sell also the solo transcription? It's fantastic..
Love this BUT, Misty is my favorite

Buonasera, c'è tipo di becco usi come marca e apertura? Grazie
Very nice. What model of 🎷 you play?
Jay - what is your setup in this video (sax, mouthpiece, reed)?
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Any reason why the charts that are included don’t include the melodies? Much less useful!
We provide the chord charts to the songs. Melodies are copyrighted and we cannot sell you those legally. However, you can do a google search for any of the songs on the list for example Google: Fly Me to the Moon PDF and you will have tons of download options to choose from at no cost.
Unbox Therapy?
Sax??? Yanagisawa TWO37 ???
WhatsApp mouthpiece are you using?,
i wanna get a tenor so bad
sometimes bari is boring and i want a bit of variety so i could make a collection
IF I EVER HAD THE MONEY
transcript🥺
Too much sizzle! Nice sound otherwise! Sounds like an old scratchy record.
