    That level of confidence is a hard one to find; it grows itself within you every time your instincts follow your teachings. I've been a proud viewer of this journey you've been on, and I can't wait to see you evolve further! You've inspired many (myself and my ragtag crew included) to kick their training up a notch, keep it up!

    Can’t believe it’s only been a year - we started out at somewhat similar times, I think I actually started quite a bit before you which I wouldn’t have guessed given the level of technique, understanding and confidence you put out there.
    Thanks for the good vids, congrats on your progress and I’m excited to keep following you on your journey 👍

    Take great pride in what you're doing and how far you've come. Your video on allowing yourself to fail helped me get over my own plateau in both fencing and karate and I do not doubt that your content has inspired and helped others with their arts as well.

    Great to hear that. I myself train with longsword and HEMA overall for little less than a year and can see my results as yours.

    It is really normal for a fencer to find himself in a sort of "stagnation" after a couple of years, a huge help for me was to step back and restart to learn the fiore and liechtenauer basic techniques. it gave me an unthinkable clarity and a new point of view on how to perform the techniques that i use to do in a meh way, but now i can perform them perfectly strong of 2/3 years fisical and form training

    The same thing happened to me after about a year of longsword. I read Meyer and did a lot of focused sparring. Then suddenly one day everything clicked and I was beating my instructors. I came back after a break and beat everyone in class twice (like 14 best-of-three-exchange matches) including the three instructors during a king of the hill style sparring rotation (one hit and you are out and go to the back of the line). These are guys that win medals too.

    Keep it up, and come back to Heartland!

    It was nice to meet you in St. Paul MN. This is awesome - great job on your longsword journey. I'm at about 4 years of longsword - no other fencing before. Things have been starting to click for me but I still have a lifetime ahead to keep growing.

    I can definately agree and understand what you're trying to say. Instead of focusing on one style, you should go with the flow, adapt and redefine many styles for your own uses. Same thing happened to The Karate Nerd - Jesse Enkamp, when learning different wushu, kung-fu and muay thai (and others) he developed his own way of doing things, his own Karate, and I feel that this might be also true to you, pursue that, adapt what works, discard what doesn't and won't suit you. I can say for myself as well, that this is best way, understanding roots of a technique and incorporating most effective (from one's point of view) forms, moves into your own style.
    so yea! Keep up the good work, keep learning, keep practicing and more importantly do what you feel is right and true with yourself!
    We're on this with you, Mate!
    edit: saw a typo...

    Mate you should be proud of your achievements. It's taken me about 2.5 years to get to the same point.
    Don't stop now, keep trying, keep pushing, keep fighting but also don't forget to be kind to yourself. You'll make mistakes, you'll feel like youve slipped and taken a step backwards - that's okay just dont give up. There's a lot of us out there who want to see how this journey goes :)

    Can you walk us through a great sword category? Perhaps explain if it should be shared or just a beveled edge and Perhaps what situations would be good for types of blades

    So one thing I’m curious about is the lack of stepping off line from your opponent. The foot work seems very linear when attacking and defending is there reason for that

    As someone who's been considering trying Longsword from a foil background, my main concern is the chance of brain damage from repeated hard hits to the head which seem like they might be more common in Longsword, but I'm not sure if that's just paranoia. How big an issue is that in reality?

    • @SellswordArts
      @SellswordArts  4 месяца назад +2

      I've been doing it for a while and I've never been seriously injured.
      It would take someone agregiously overpowering their hits to do damage your head. But there are other things on the market you can buy like padded head covers and other things to put extra protection on.

    • @petermuller3995
      @petermuller3995 4 месяца назад

      This is a 100% legitimate concern. Unfortunatly there is no data etc on brain damage/concussions/etc when it comes to longsword. All I can reccoment is to minimize heavy head hits whenever possible.

    Ah, the click. There's nothing quite like it, is there. When all the building blocks you've been taught to make prefabricated structures become exactly what they were always meant to be; building blocks to build to match the scenario. 😁 But this is only the first plateau you've hurdled.
    Find more building blocks. Only a fool thinks there's nothing more to learn or discover.
