A quick note for people using Catalina: the esc + esc list-command doesn't work anymore. The way it works now, is that you put in the specific first letter of the command you look for, e.g., a or y, and press Tab twice. The terminal will show you all the commands starting with the character of choice.
This is wonderful seeing both the back end and front end comparisons. Clarifies a lot on using command prompts with Linux, Mac, and Win platforms. Thank you! Hope to see similar videos like this with other commands.
SO SCARY! lol im in a msu coding bootcmap trying do the assignments and every time the terminal is mentioned im like scared because idk how to work this thing, and it has nothing to do with actual coding so i was panicking. this video and a tutoring session is what helped me big time
Great tutorial! I had to try to work with the terminal and opening python-related files so I want to become more familiar with the terminal now and this was very easy to understand
Thank you for sharing this, it's a great into to Mac OS terminal! Are you going to be doing an advanced level tutorial like this as well? It seems like there are a lot of people who make vids for Mac terminal and just stop at the basics, it would be great to see some more in-depth functionality on such a powerful tool.
I’m still learning it myself for more advanced options. But I’ll try to make a video once I learn enough to teach it. Currently I’m just playing with the long list of commands and trying to use it over the finder when I can
Thank you!! I am taking a FS Bootcamp and using GUI makes sense to me. It's like minute I see a black screen with neon numbers, letters of special characters, I go blank. Preaciate your help!
esc+esc twice in terminal doesn't work in macOS Sonoma. It doesn't show any commands or the y/n option to list all commands. Does anyone have any idea!?
When I run the ifconfig command, it shows the network mask in hexadecimal numbering. Could the netmask be shown in decimal or cider form?Make video on more commands.. this video is amazing
Hello, thanks for this helpful video. I just can't run the ESC button, when I click twice, nothing happens on terminal, I think it's because of the Touch Bar.
Thank you so much. I assume I had an issue with authorisations on my Macbook, as when executing the command "rm -r test" in the desktop directory the first time, I was asked if I really wanted to delete the folder on desktop, but the second time I made a test folder and deleted it, I wasn't asked again. Where do I see which authorisations I have?
@ready2fry 1st of which! You have a super dope name but do you know how to navigate Mac to find documents that haven't saved and are not backed up? An for Mac's operating on 10.11-12 are there any updated Terminal key strokes or anything I should be aware of? Because I see that you are very thorough and you have helped a few people out. I just want to talk to someone knowledgeable other than watching these Terminal videos and nothing really working for me to locate highly classified documents? An again, super dope name lmao.
I downloaded an application and it installed in the terminal, what are the commands to move this application to the desktop sort can be used. macOS Sonoma 14.5

hi, my terminal is gone. all I can see is : "Last login: Tue May 5 08:29:01 on ttys007 [İşlem tamamlandı]". (it means "job completed") I was making sth about bash profile and trying to save sth, I think i did sth wrong and terminal is not responding now, whatever I push. how can I fix it. even apple doesnt know, I called them. on the top, its written that " Terminal -- java_home --bash 80X24" and " Terminal -- bash --bash 80X24 " its trying to command sth. its blinking for like 2 minutes and then stops. it turns to just " Terminal 80X24 " thank you very much..
your reference to both the CLI commands and the prompt as 'code' was quite irritating . i mean there's a plethora of other close terms without venturing into UNIX technical jargon .
