I like your work and also the work of Gabor Maté. In almost every podcast or workshop Gabor Maté would ask someone: when was the last time you felt anger? The person describes that situation and Gabor asks: how does it make you feel? In other words: what does it mean about you? Then he would challenge that perception with other possible explanations of what happened. Finally Gabor would ask when was the first time you had this perception of not being good enough, coming from childhood. Maté says your brain jumped automatically to that explanation/perception.
So it seems to me that Gabor Maté considers a trigger as a top-down approach where thoughts create an emotion, when in fact it’s stored material which comes up first (that was once in the past created by a perception).
Gabor explores other explanations, so questioning the belief, but it’s stored material (that was once created by a perception, but that already happened before). Now it’s already in the body, so isn’t that what you work with? (bottom-up approach of Somatic Experiencing)

@@akasha11111 Hey Anne, thanks so much for your comment. I also love Gabor Mate. The man is a saint. I've met him twice and have a number of friends who have worked with him directly (Canada is kind of small).
I believe Gabor and myself share the view that we need to work with both thoughts/belief and feelings. Top down and bottom up. If you do one without the other, you usually end up getting stuck.
I talk about the idea of complexes, basically thoughts and beliefs that are interconnected and re-enforce each other. Things happen which make us feel a certain way, and then we create a story or belief around that. We need to examine the story/belief while also feeling the feelings. The key is to be able to feel the feelings and not believe the stories and beliefs that are attached to it, but instead see things with more clarity where we don't make ourselves bad or wrong or whatever else we may believe about ourselves.
      Does that answer your question?

@@BeingIntegrated When triggered Maté says your mind goes there automatically (a perception) I think it’s actually your body that goes automatically there (in the form of sensations, stored emotions). The perception (negative belief) is actually from a long time ago when you made that conclusion. What remains is a somatic imprint so it’s your body that first reacts when you are triggered. The perception is from the past and questioning it has no effect on the somatic imprint: you have to feel it through. Of course it can be useful to disprove your belief for the sake of not creating new emotional material in the present/future.
Correct me if I’m “wrong” 🙂

This project sounds amazing. I personally love all of the openings for each module. Well thought though and well executed thus far. Keep up the awesome work. It's all part of World Peace - working on the self has the effect of radiating out healing just in our basic day to day interactions. Those interactions spread out and slowly larger groups begin to change. We tend to minimize Self, but it's really where it's all at...

Amen! I can relate to everything in this video, I was one of those people who (didn't know they had ADHD) got so overwhelmed with all the conflicting advice, nothing really worked for me and I didn't have the resources to waste on trying to find the 'right' answer. Thank you xxx
