We have 2 feet of snow in the forecast and I'm down bigtime with the flu, so my teenage son is tasked with everything from gassing up vehicles and the snowblower to firewood duty. Thankfully, the food we grew, foraged, and preserved took one major worry out of the equation! This is why we prepare!
I hope you feel better soon! I take flu seriously as my dear husband had complication from flu 5 years that has left him with permanent heart damage, but he survived when his doctors felt he wouldn’t. Please take good care of yourself.
Wow I can't believe you guys are still getting so many eggs! All my hens stopped laying almost 2 months ago as soon as freezing temps settled in at night.
Carolyn, thank you so much for taking us along on a tour of your food stores. There is a certain level of vulnerability in doing so and for me it is so appreciated. What a wonderful hardworking family you and Josh have! God bless you all!

Hi, love the video. I hope you do a video on your milk processing setup. Your new butter churn, cheesemaking equipment, straining and cooling milk setup, etc. I love your almost commercial level food processing. I don’t know why, but I love it. My family is not quite as big as your with only 5 children, but watching you work and process things still gives me some great ideas and really helps the efficiency side of things. Thanks so much for all you do.
Thanks for showing your purchased canned items! I just don’t have the weather or room to grow surplus tomatoes, pumpkins, corn, and I am so jealous of all the homesteaders with shelves and shelves of those things. WOW! 13 to 15 people a meal! God bless you girl and another one is on the way :) I would LOVE to have even HALF the space you have lol The room you usually do your videos, is my absolute favorite! Many blessings to you and your family! I've been stocking for almost 3 years now and there is not an empty space in my home lol Under my beds, in my closets, IN my bedroom corners etc. But we have been blessed to be able to do this before all the crazy price increases we have now.
We got a half foot of snow today, and I also found out that the 60+ lbs of potatoes I bought have begun to sprout - I am planning to can and dehydrate as much as possible today and tomorrow! Don't want to lose all that food!
I have to keep reminding myself that you are a large household while we are just 2 people. So need to stop comparing myself to you guys. 😆 But its cool to see how a large family stays fed but with good food. Would love to see a make dinner with us video. What a beautiful pantry! We eat those types of grapes here in Spain. They're between grapes and raisins. Not too dry like raisins, but not fresh like grapes. They're really good.
Thank you for sharing! Family of 10 here, often feeding 12 at my table. I so appreciate seeing how you store everything and cleaning new ideas. I've needed to get creative to store as well. We converted an old piano into a cabinet to store alot of home canned goods, and turned under stairs area into second pantry. I'm still trying to find a root cellar solution here in coastal VA! Good bless and keep you through the winter
The last year I have been actively canning and dehydrating a ton of food to fill a 9’x9’ pantry room with about 160+ square feet of shelves - having fun doing it, too!!
What an amazing tour. Wishing I was a new neighbor just moving in and you stop by with a welcome basket. The ciders and plum jam look amazing. I wish I could live with you for a week I could learn so many new things. You also gave me ideas for next year ... to hang my cut off pepper plants. When season changed and a few were still on and not ripe I just left the plant go but I only lost a few peppers maybe 4. You are an amazing woman, mother, and teacher you have taught me a lot that at 51 I'm going to start attempting. I asked my kids for a pressure canner for Christmas so your videos come January will be watched and enjoyed greatly. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! I would love to see pregnancy videos what you eat in a day, birth plans, how you all manage to homesteading pregnant and post pardum, breast feeding and first time motherly advice for the young homesteader, etc! :)
It is such a good feeling knowing we are well supplied until the next harvest. Seeds for 2023 purchased weeks ago as well as seeds saved. Still need to "process" chickens for freezing and canning. Will be canning dried beans this week for convenience. Beautiful pantry to nourish your beautiful family!
You have a beautiful set up wow ! I'm doing my best to store up my favorite squash like butternut, acorn squash, they make so many yum dishes and soups, pies. So we understand what your doing. We have a small place but we're happy to have so much to feed us in a time we're in.
Having a pantry like this saves so much time and hassle. All five of us just went through Covid. During that first week, I was so grateful that we could just pull cans of the shelves for dinner and lunch. Lots of chicken soup with turmeric that way, stews, more soup and elderberry juice from the freezer, was made into toddy’s. We are only 5, but we do the same thing you do. It saves time and money, and you know that what you serve is good and healthy. We also have food allergies, so access to safe foods is amazing. I really wish I had access to cold storage like you have, but it’s too hot here in the south. Instead I have an extra refrigerator, which doesn’t give me a lot of free space, but still works. I do have one advantage you don’t. We can and do grow vegetables year round, since the temperatures rarely goes below the mid 30’s. The only fruit we have access to all years round, is orange though, but it is a privilege always having access to oranges. This weekend they are promising 80F, so I will be lucky if my plants don’t bolt, but I covered them up so hopefully they won’t. Anyway. That’s for another great video.
Fantastic pantry, but please consider putting in wood retaining strips (or something similar) on the front of the rows so an earthquake doesn't ruin all your hard work.
I haven't watched for a while-- didn't know you are expecting again! Congratulations!!! Is this #10?? How exciting❤ Your food storage is really amazing. You make me tired just seeing all those jars and freezers. LOL
Great to see all the different methods of preserving and types of food. One method I use a lot is cooking ground beef on a cast iron pan, saving the rendered tallow in jars, and then dehydrating the meat inn the oven. Its let me avoid having to buy an extra 3 freezers, and the tast/texture is @ 95% as good as the ground beef in say a Mt House meal, so if you can't afford a freeze drier, look into it. I have meat thats over 1.5 yr old still like the day it was made all you need is a ziploc bag to store it, but of course you could use jars, mylar bags etc.
I sooo wish I had shelves right now my pantry is in closets all my cupboards and under beds🥴 they 2 grown kids will have their cabin done enough to move in March so I can turn one of their bedrooms into a real pantry . I look at my store canned stuff and when it gets close to date I re pressure can to extend life of food and replacing anything we eat . Having shelves would make my keeping a eye on dates of my foods, now I try and pick a date on callender and do it all every month. Your pantry is what I will be wanting to mimic once I get it set up
This just goes to show that persistence, a lot of patience, and determination, can get you on a better track, and life. Thanks for the continued encouragement! Endurance, endurance, endurance! The key to it all.
I would love to get your recipes for larger quantities. Sometimes when I triple a recipe it doesn't turn out well. I cook for a large family as well. Maybe you could put them together in a recipe book or a digital download to sell.
Great video. My pantry is basically a closet with 3 shelves. It is maxed out. We have a basement but it is damp. Several years ago we tried to store potatoes - they did not last long. This was a bad year in gardening for us due to critters. I guess they are really hungry. Deer have never jumped the fence before. Even they chewed the potato plants down which we never had that issue before. I was working longer hours and my cousin came down with lymes disease which he was having a hard time getting around. Definitely got to work on new fencing plus more around the property if we want to grow anything. I grow all my herbs in pots and then dyhrate them. When I open up the jar of herbs to use, the smell is awesome. I did some foraging as well. If things go better next year, I plan to slow down at work and focus more of foraging, growing more vegetables (I already have alot of my seeds for next year), growing more herbs, berries, etc.
I LOVE love love your "fridge" room where you keep the eggs and grapes and bacon!! I've wanted something similar for awhile, now the only step is to find the right land. And so awesome you're curing it the old-fashioned way! The old ways are the best. Time-tested methods for sure!
I have not had bacon like that in 40+ years!!! You are so right, no other bacon touches that!!! Your children are so amazingly blessed to experience this. 🥓🥓🥓🥓🐓🐔🥚🍳🥚🍳

If you ever get a ranch style beans recipe down, please share it. There is nothing like a ground beef patty, baked potato and ranch style beans for a quick meal. I grew up on this too.
You and your family are well prepared for the coming winter. Thanks for sharing your pantry storage with us. God Blesses those that prepare for the needs of their family; Have a Wonderful Day!
When my husband used to hunt, I would can deer stew meat because I don’t like deer burger. It tastes just like beef! I would make stews, soups, or just meat and gravy for mashed potatoes and biscuits! I miss that meat! I used to go to the coast and buy albacore tuna from the fishing boats and would can it. It tasted like chicken! So good!
THAT WAS VERY NICE! I got a deyhdrator from amazon, used, cheap! WORKS GREAT! And, I got a sealer for the dried meat/veggies! does not take much room!!!
I would love to see you go over all the items you use (not the food) For instance what you use to vacuum seal the freeze dried food & what you use as a chopper.
Great video. Love you are trying different areas to find new food storage. Back in 2011 we moved our house on to a big plot of land. Our house is a old country church with a 8x8 bell tower. When we moved the house we put a full basement under it. The bell tower basement became our cold room. It has turned out excellent. Although there is a concrete floor, I am managing to keep apples carrots beets and spuds for a three or so months. Not perfect but good enough for the two of us. In a few years we are hoping to move across the road into a smaller place. But with a bigger root cellar. Even though I am mid 60s we still can upwards of 400 jars a year, we still hunt for moose and deer and can a lot of thst too. Since our power is pretty sketchy here. Sorry this is getting long winded. But it doesn’t matter your age or how many u are feeding…it’s a great practise to keep extra food on hand. We only go to town every two months and we do just fine. Thank you so much for your great channel. 🇨🇦💕
You’re pantry is my dream… I am sooooo thankful for all the tips, and ideas for the freeze dried food. We are brand new to FD, and loved hearing how you use youre items. Thank you x
Can you do a video on what you eat as a pregnant mom? I'm expecting now :) I remember watching your husband's video a few months back saying you were unwell with morning/all day sickness, now I'm in the same exact boat, lol. Can't wait to get to where you are: looking and feeling good
I hadn't thought about freeze drying my green beans! Thanks for the idea. I've been canning them but I love them fresh. Hopefully my freeze dryer will give something close. Fingers crossed.
Absolutely amazing!! i have started following your channel recently and I'm so impressed with all you do. I would love to see how you use up all the different cuts of meat in your daily recipes during the winter...
You are a goddess! Be proud! That is some serious hard work put into all that preservation. I just got into canning this summer (Northern Alberta 🇨🇦). I have been water boiling and borrowing my girlfriend’s pressure canner. I still have so much to learn. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!🙏🏻
Love seeing your pantry. We just got a freeze drier this year& have been busy putting things up. Could you please please show how you are using these freeze-dried items? Cream of mushroom soup is brilliant!! I never even thought of that. Thank you for sharing.
I wish I could pay you to let me take a weeks vacation off of work and stay at your house to be able to soak up all the amazing things you do. Imaging being able to learn hands on. You guys got it down pat Congrats 🎉
When we had the lockdown in 2020 I decided to start cycling through my short term pantry and also decided to open some of my #10 cans in long storage. I hadn't sampled most figuring if I ever really needed them I wouldn't be too picky - I was wrong. One thing I found that I absolutely loved was the tomatoes powder. It is absolutely fantastic to use whenever I need tomato sauce, paste, soup base or éven to make things like ketchup or bbq sauce. It can replace a lot of canned tomato products and still have great flavor. Very impressed with your wonderful pantry. The vibrant organized colors make me think of stain glass windows. Would love to see your process for making bacon. Do you also cure your own hams?
I was wondering would you need some kind of shelf guard for earthquake protection? That way jars are protected from slipping of shelves. Love your videos! 🥰👌

I would love to see you go over all the items you use (not the food) For instance what you use to vacuum seal the freeze dried food & what you use as a chopper.
Yes that would be great!
Wow, crab apples? I have never heard of anyone using it so many different ways. A hard crab apple cider sounds really good, actually.
This is so inspiring.
Wow!
You’re pantry is my dream… I am sooooo thankful for all the tips, and ideas for the freeze dried food. We are brand new to FD, and loved hearing how you use youre items. Thank you x

Your channel is always amazing. I don’t say much but always enjoy your wisdom and content! As always thanks for taking us along ❤
Can you do a video on what you eat as a pregnant mom? I'm expecting now :) I remember watching your husband's video a few months back saying you were unwell with morning/all day sickness, now I'm in the same exact boat, lol. Can't wait to get to where you are: looking and feeling good
Thanks for the tour! So fun to see the full picture of things going on.
You have a beautiful pantry!! Congratulations 🎉
Your so well organized. I’m impressed. Looking forward to seeing how your root cellar turns out.

This is looking so good. Well done you guys 👍
You are well prepared for winter
I hadn't thought about freeze drying my green beans! Thanks for the idea. I've been canning them but I love them fresh. Hopefully my freeze dryer will give something close. Fingers crossed.
Make sure to cut them bc they don't fd whole
@@jennajulianne6178 Thanks for the tip!
Absolutely amazing!! i have started following your channel recently and I'm so impressed with all you do. I would love to see how you use up all the different cuts of meat in your daily recipes during the winter...
Thanks for sharing! Outstanding video. Lots of helpful info. God bless!
You are a goddess! Be proud! That is some serious hard work put into all that preservation. I just got into canning this summer (Northern Alberta 🇨🇦). I have been water boiling and borrowing my girlfriend’s pressure canner. I still have so much to learn. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!🙏🏻
Looking Good Carolyn love this Video
Love seeing your pantry. We just got a freeze drier this year& have been busy putting things up. Could you please please show how you are using these freeze-dried items? Cream of mushroom soup is brilliant!! I never even thought of that. Thank you for sharing.
i love your videos! thankyou
I wish I could pay you to let me take a weeks vacation off of work and stay at your house to be able to soak up all the amazing things you do. Imaging being able to learn hands on. You guys got it down pat Congrats 🎉
Next best thing is her wonderful playlists- it's like being there💙
That sounds so good! Think of what we could learn!
Do you mind sharing which #10can foods you disliked ?
I was wondering would you need some kind of shelf guard for earthquake protection? That way jars are protected from slipping of shelves. Love your videos! 🥰👌
