Common areas this type of wiring is used are in a domestic 3 story houses with a light switch on each floor for the landing light.
In a commercial environment the wiring can be used in a hall way.

You are a good tutor, nicely presented and easy to understand. All the best.
Brilliantly done with clarity.
Excellent tutorial, well presented, thanks so much!
The best video I've seen .
Thanks buddy, I’m currently on my apprenticeship and this tutorial has been very helpful. There is lots of crappy ones out there that show their own twist instead of the correct way in the regs etc.
Great to hear!
Best explanation so far thank you 🙏🏻
My pleasure 👍
Nice working
❤THANKS for sharing your video 😊
My pleasure 😊
Thank you
Great job thanks
My pleasure
Great work thanks for your nice explanation 👍.
My pleasure
Wow very nice presentation sir ❤❤❤
Great video mate learnt more in 20minutes than 2years in college 😂
Collage is there for the paper work, you need to go out and do it 👍
Amazing good explanation...
I aim for amazing and good explanations every time! Glad to see it's working. Stay tuned for more amazingness!
At las someone who still says live and earth . And not line and CPC . Good book video 👍
Yes, I have always said live and earth, I think line and Cpc is a book terminology
Nice bro
Nice to see you man ❤
Hey, thanks
You are really doing great
Fantastic
Thanks,
Tutorial👍🙏
Your more than welcome
Brilliant tutorial. I think it would have been handy to mention you could have as many intermediate switches inbetween two 2-way switches.
That could always be another video
Was wondering that. Now I've been informed 👍 Thanks 😊
Great work brother
Thank you so much 😀
Good informative video thanks mate
Glad you enjoyed it
@@toolboxtalking can we add more lights on same mathod
Thanks alot I have learned something...
Glad to hear that
thank you
Thank You very much for this video Sir
Most welcome
Nice one Sir,, 👍
Keep it up
Thank you 😊
Can have several lights as well, also can add more intermediate switches in between the 2 way switches.
Good work
Thanks
Thank you 👍
You are welcome
Parfect ❤
I love this
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Very good and helpful video. If it's possible please show 2 plate method for 3 switches. Ie intermediate switch. Thank you
I think it’s up already - check the other videos 👍
Very clear explanation. Could you please advise if I can install a dimmer switch instead of one of those switches?
Yes, absolutely! You can definitely install a dimmer switch instead of one of those regular switches. It's a great way to have control over the brightness of your lights and create the perfect ambiance in any room.
I would normally use brown on brown L1 and blue on black L2 use grey as common. And similarly with the older wiring red to red and yellow as common
In firsr switch ,where you connect live and neutral
Live in common and neutral L1
In a first switch, you connect the live wire to the common terminal and the neutral wire to the L1 terminal. Make sure to always follow the correct wiring guidelines for safety purposes.
Thank you for this. Not sure if it's too basic, but wonder if you can run over some terminology, such as what is common? What color is it normally in new builds or old builds.
Very helpful regardless.
No worries. Common will be brown and L1 will be black then L2 being Black. Both with brown sleeving
Hi mate, If you haven't second fixed the intermediate switch be prepared as everyone wires them differently. I for example don't use the brown as the common, I use the grey, Black as L1 & Brown as L2.
lol thought it was Tyson fury in the thumbnail
Can you use an intermittent switch as a 2 way if you just link out both sides at the bottom? Am struggling as only have intermittent for my grid
Yes, you can use an intermittent switch as a 2-way by linking out both sides at the bottom. It might not be the conventional way, but it can work in a pinch!
It so interesting
If you liked this one, you are going to be impressed with the next one coming soon
Hi can you do a video how to wire lights and sockets upstairs in 2 rooms only 3 sockets upstairs thanks
What happens at the dB if I use 3core as my feed to some emergency lights in the hall wat and 2way switches?
How do I wire at the DB?j have black snd brown
There would be no point in using 3 core from the Db unless you want to use a sw live from there too
thanks bro its really awesome but could you mind if you do about connecting a socket and a switch
Yes I can
soon you are making us a video@@toolboxtalking
❤
First off thank you for describing a 3 way switch which I followed 😂 just… but what would happen if you had 2 or 4 lights in the room?
Haha, great question! If you had 2 or 4 lights in the room, you might need to hire an electrician to handle all those switches! Just kidding, there are actually different wiring configurations for multiple lights, and I can definitely cover that in a future video.
How can I connect trafficator light please
Great video . How would you add a couple more lights that would be controlled by the same amount of switches ? Would they be simply daisy chained from first light?
Yes mate. Just carry on the L+N to every light 💡
Nice one . Appreciate the vid and your quick reply .
Have you ever come across the situation where a 1940's house has 2 switches controlling 1 light. But with only a single twin & earth at each switch and the ceiling rose? I figured there must me a junction box somewhere along the installation but still don't understand how it would have been wired back then?! 🤷♂️
👍👍👍
Your videos are great. I'd be interested in having a chat with you about a start up business that's aimed at electricians and the trade in general. I appreciate you're busy but if you could spare 10 minutes for a chat I'd appreciate it as you seem like a straight talker and your opinion would be very useful.
Sure mate, no problem. 👍
What's the name of those boxes please! How do they call it the technical name
So many people call them different things. Dry lining box, fast fix box, plasterboard box - you can see them on amazon here - www.amazon.co.uk/shop/toolboxtalkforelectricians/list/1NVOV28BZLKIX?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsftoolboxtalkforelectricians_ZFC9QMV6YVHV759DMR2E
How can u do the serials of Intermediate switches
This is a video to come
Good a proffessional work ,but the colour coding in the switches must be red bcz in kenya red is always live
You must be able to tell I'm in the UK mate
Harmonised colours were introduced in 2004 to UK to match the EU. (Brown and blue). Just wondering if Kenya is in the EU?
Next tym on sketch it better to sea connection pleace
Why is there no live direct to the switch.
This thing is so funny to how I know it. There should be no live wire in the light when it switched off. The live should go to the switch first
It depends how it’s wired bud
🙂👍
How do you connect Solar panel and you get power
Solar panels are connected to the main supply, you can however get a lot of different set ups
How do I add a fourth intimidate switch?
It would be the same as adding the 3rd, but I could make a video on this 👍
The path i don't understand is how you connect the light and the switch
There is a video coming just for you
what about a two way for the stairs?
Like this - ruclips.net/video/OHw1uxoBGiQ/видео.html
What about when there linkage
Linkage for what mate?
It's quite obvious to me that all the wires in switch are live only the blue one is neutral and obviously earthing
You're absolutely right! It's important to understand the wiring and safety measures when dealing with switches.
Good work , but during terminations you need to advance on explaining process, a new learner can understand you!
Thanks for the feedback. I know just what you mean - I do assume everyone knows some bits. Always room for improvement 👍
Pls I need the diagram
Of what mate?
Good work, but I don't understood how it happened
Am also an electrician that's why I said that, and I need to understand it very will
How’s that
How is that?
@@toolboxtalking nice work. I’m an apprentice sparky starting second year now
hii
Hello
Surely as qualified electrician you would carry out test
You sure would
What kind of test?
