Thank you for the video. It's counterintuitive that you have to select the correct channel to change the effect on it, you already have a switch per channel. For a short while I thought I had a defective unit because I kept deleting the effect on one of the channels!
You're welcome and glad it helped! I agree, and apparently it caught a lot of Solar 42f owners off guard. It certainly drove me crazy at some point :) They should make this more clear in the manual, given the number of similar feedbacks!
Thank you for this! I read the section of the manual on loading FX a few times, but still didn’t feel like I completely understood it. Your video makes much more sense and is very helpful. Thanks again, well done!
I've been doing this. Pan all Drones to the LEFT. Pan my two VCOs to the RIGHT. Hook up to my audio interface. Treat both L and R Inputs as mono. that way it doesn't have the 2 effects going only on Left and Right. If you don't want to use a DAW, think this would work too. "JHS Summing Amp Utility Pedal" takes 2 signals and sums to 1 mono if you won't want to use a DAW.
Thank you for making this! I was somewhat disappointed by the Solar effects but probably I was not doing something right. I was getting a lot of the effect getting "stuck" in a position and needing a hard reset of the machine to take the effect off when switching cartridges. This is helpful!
Thanks! Yes, I was having some frustration at first as well, not being helped by the official manual either. Not the best video I could have made though - I should have prepared a script beforehand maybe 😅 but happy it helped!!
Hey thanks!! The official PDF manual, at the time of this writing, is, for some parts of it, confusing, at least for some owners. It looks like it's been written under pressure very quickly :) I think Elta Music team will improve it as soon as they can resurface from the hype... This synth has gotten so popular that I guess they put all their resources on the production side, and not the marketing side. Meanwhile, you can count on the user community to get help!
@@JessFromSquareOne Yeah I spent a good hour getting frustrated because I couldn't figure it out! Then I took a chance and looked on the internet machine and luckily found your video. Thanks again! Definitely earned a sub for that!
The frustration is all shared 😊. The video is not of the greatest quality (was my first of this kind) but given that a few others seemed to find it useful, I begin to believe it served its purpose. :D - Thanks for the sub! 🙏
Great video, I just realized its also incorrect in the Solar 42F manual, in the manual it says pushed in, button down is Left channel and button up state is Right channel loading.
Exactly! I checked and rechecked before doing my video because it wouldn't work the it's described, it was the contrary... At least on my Solar it is inversed. So... no proof reading at all, it's a bit sad. But again, that's only a doc. Which doc doesn't have a mistake or two right? :) Anyway, that's what the community is for I believe. But yeah, it leaves people a bit confused.
I think over time having to press the central channel button will become intuitive. It makes sense to me that you’d need to have the button in the proper state to mess with anything on either side. I was thinking they could have given you a blank cartridge in order to clear the memory, but then that’s an extra step when you’re live if you quickly wanted to stop the effects.
Yeah, it's still unclear to me why they needed to design such a workflow, but I suspect it has something to do with the circuitry evolution from the OG Solar 42 to the 42f release. I suppose they do have some constraints. But I'm only assuming. I don't know anything about what's under the hood. It's not the best ergonomics for sure, but on the Plus side, it's great to have separate FX on left/right channels, it's truly a great addition from the OG Solar 42. The whole synth is a great hardware adventure, I will not complain about that, I got what I asked for, a truly unique hardware, almost artisanal, hands-on, analog, sensitive, very inspirative synth. I'd say, flaws are meant to become creative opportunities ;) If one wants perfection and repetition, just buy a mouse and VST plugin ah ah :D - it just means, to each tools its user. If you don't like to tune a violon for hours, don't use a violon.
@@JessFromSquareOne if you like the creativity aspect, check out the Airwave that ROLI released yesterday. That will be a real performance art piece of gear.
Hey Vincent! Thanks for visiting my channel ☺ I could say the same regarding how "bits manipulation" is when it comes to hardware programming. But your channel makes it very simple to understand😜 Seriously, no, it's not a complicated machine, it's just that some parts are not very well explained in the manual and you have to explore a bit on your own to wrap your head around that. But YOU already know very well the importance of machine exploration when it comes to fully develop its potential 😁
@VincentRiviere Not really. It just takes some time to learn about it and how things are set up. It’s an impressive machine with endless possibilities.
Hi! As per the Solar42f pdf manual (07 2024 v3 release), "Audio signals enter the effector (with cartridges) which is controlled by CV as well - the same circuit is used in ELTA music CONSOLE pedal and SOLAR 50." - doesn't specify if the cartridges themselves are 100% compatible though. That's all I can say so far. I'd suggest you leave a message on their support web page to be sure. Let us know :) Hope it helps!

Do the Elta console cartridges work in the 42f and are they different to the ones you get with the 42f, any idea?
