Ever since we learned that there would be a duet with these two, I’ve Been DREADING it- because the idea of Blitz, a character who’s emotions are only ever expressed subtly, SINGING sounded like it could never work. I can’t believe they actually pulled it off! They did so in the only way possible, the only way blitz could sing/be in a duet is if it was comical. I was anticipating an emotional ballad, kinda like what we saw in Truth Seekers when Moxxie hallucinated “Blitz” singing. I thought we were going to get a song where blitz was singing like THAT, all emotional and dramatic, that we were expected to take seriously. (Which would just never work bc of the type of character Blitz is.) SO glad they preserved the tone of the show by making Blitz’s part of the duet purely comical, and not dramatic and emotional. That would’ve been so corny it would’ve been unbearable.

There are so many rules of storytelling, and Helluva boss (at least in the episodes that have been released thus far) has a bad habit of breaking the most basic rules of storytelling, as well as having some poor-quality writing in general. Brandon Rogers, who voices Blitz and is also a professional writer, said recently that these next five episodes were written in MUCH higher quality than what we’ve already seen of the show. Based on the trailer released yesterday, I sincerely believe him. You can tell the show is starting to take itself more seriously, and I have high hopes that the quality of the writing/storytelling is about to IMMENSELY improve upon itself. It seems the crew has gotten a better grasp on the tone of the show that they want to set, and being consistent with it. In the past, when the show’s writing was poor, I don’t think they would’ve handled the Full Moon episode as well as I believe they are now. They likely would’ve broken some storytelling rules for the intense, emotional “breaking the contract” scene- such as having a poor ratio of comedy to drama. I also think they would’ve had this scene (the duet) include Blitz being as emotional as Stolas in his singing portions, which again, just does not work for this character. I’m thrilled to see the improvement in the methods of storytelling used in the upcoming episodes!💕
