      Also it probably wasn't a conscious civilization like we conceive, but rather a collection of perpetually warring city-states. Much like the Greeks, who probably weren't self-consciously Greek until the Persian Wars. If Civ were to actually model Sumer in game mechanics it'd be like "Oh you wanna invade Egypt? Well, first you've gotta get Lagash and Umma to stop attacking each other, and secondly Akkad just declared war on your capital. So, umm, good luck with that?"

    Being 2/3 of a god is far more impressive than being 1/2.
    In order to be 2/3 of a god means that 2/3 of all your ancestors have to be gods. And for that to happen you have to be basically descended from an infinite number of gods, or if it was finite set of gods they had sex with your ancestors an infinite number of times. It also means they have been managing your bloodline for an infinite about of time. :-)
    This is because the power of 2 is not divisible by 3. There will always be a remainder

    • @adamweishaupt3733

    • @wlouvier1
      @wlouvier1 8 лет назад +3

      No, no, no. You see, gods need three cells, rather than two, to be created. Obviously that was makes them super-powerful. The female has two and the male contributes the third, you see, So, Gilgamesh's mom was a goddess and she was knock up by a human, hence the 2/3 god, 1/3 human.

    Gilgamesh, a king. At Uruk. He tormented his subjects. He made them angry. They cried out aloud, "Send us a companion for our king! Spare us from his madness!" Enkidu, a wild man... from the forest, entered the city. They fought in the temple. They fought in the streets. Gilgamesh defeated Enkidu. They became great friends. Gilgamesh and Enkidu at Uruk.
    The... the new friends went out into the desert together, where the Great Bull of Heaven was killing men by the hundreds. Enkidu caught the Bull by the tail. Gilgamesh struck him with his sword. They were... victorious. But... Enkidu fell to the ground, struck down by the gods. And Gilgamesh... wept bitter tears, saying, "He who was my companion, through adventure and hardship, is gone forever."

    There is a LOT of variety in Civs... Not many left to show before release either... The only obvious missing 'slot' is a native NORTH-American group. The Iroquoi and/or Sioux have been in previous games, and both would be valid choices... But maybe something different? Maybe a "Canadian native" group, like the Inuit or Dene (or similar tundra-dwellers)?

    This civ looks amazing. For one thing, the abilities and special district sound great. Goodie huts with every barbarian encampment? That's awesome. Secondly, this is Sumeria, it doesn't get much more ancient than that. Third, while Harald Hardråde may have made every other leader so far look physically puny, Gilgamesh looks like he is more on the level of Thor.
    I think Sumeria just usurped Norway and Greece as the civilization I want to play first.

      What if there is a special diplomatic modifier attached? For example a (+25 Relations for Shared War) that persists for several turns? That would be really useful for maintaining tricky AI relations. As long as you're not playing a 100% human game, I think it could have its advantages. And if they have the old system of level capping units against barbarians, then you could use Gilgamesh's trait to "EXP Share" your own new recruits.
      Also the first ability mentioned sounds hella strong! Like the Shoshone Pathfinders in Civ V.

    • @LeandroBraz23
      @LeandroBraz23 8 лет назад +13

      This ability got more effects after the video was done:
      "Hey guys! I have an update from Gilgamesh! Apparently he was in over the weekend with some "recommendations" for his Leader Ability, and Ed has implemented them. As of today it has 3 parts:
      * He can declare war on anyone at war with one of his allies without any warmonger penalties.
      * When at war with a common foe, Sumeria and its allies share pillage rewards and share combat experience gains with the closest allied unit within 5 tiles.
      *Gilgamesh can levy City-State military forces at 50% of cost."
      So you get to declare war without warmonger penalty (basically an unique Casus Belli) and can get XP and pillage reward that your ally gets near you, even though he also gets the same. Keep in mind that as the human player, we know how to exploit mechanics. E.g. stay near your ally units but away of the fight. Get free XP while your ally sacrifice his units against the enemy units, then get into the fight with upgraded units against a weakened enemy.

    I've been waiting for this one's reveal! It's very good to see Sumer included in the base game for the first time. Even though very little is known about Gilgamesh as a real life figure compared to his legendary figure, I'm still happy that he has been chosen as the leader. Sure there are other kings of Sumer whose real life accomplishments are very noteworthy and have been eulogized, but none are quite as iconic as the legend of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh's legend has been passed down and written over and over again for thousands of years of rich ancient Mesopotamian culture and heritage. And his buff figure certainly doesn't hurt his fit for a leader of Sumer either.

  • @Nitesco

    This is my guess for Russia: Russia's special ability is "General Winter". All invading troops take damage each time they end a turn within Russian borders. Led by "Joseph Stalin" they are able to automatically annex any city-states along their borders. The "Kremlin" is their unique building, reducing cultural influence from other civs and decreasing the effectiveness of enemy spies. Their unique unit, the "Tsar Bomb," will allow you to obliterate your enemies with it's radius increased by two tiles. Russia is especially suited for a domination victory. With it's unique improvement you'll be able to resist those going for a cultural victory. Can you bring the world to heel under your iron boot? Find out in Sid Meir's Civilization VI.

    • @TellEmB290
      @TellEmB290 8 лет назад +5

      I don't know why people constantly have to bring real world politics into a bloody game. Say I wanted to play as a communist civ once I unlock ideologies, it never really feels like the "right" choice because there are no communist leaders because everyone gets all butthurt over the inclusion of them. It's silly.
      The truth is, Russia as we know it wouldn't have survived WW2 without Stalin. He was a harsh leader, true, but he wasn't joking when he said Russia was way behind the rest of the world and would need to modernise within a decade to survive as a standalone communist society surrounded by hostile capitalist ones. And in a society as reactionary and in many ways, tribal (e.g. they place especially heavy emphasis on strength as an important quality of leadership), as Russia, the best way to bring about sweeping change to the structure of society is by force and intimidation. Besides, cruel, despotic leaders are always fun to play as, whether the game is Civ or one of Paradox's grand strategy series.
      Admittedly I don't really care because I rarely if ever play as Russia, but it annoys me how people selectively judge history. People are against including Stalin, but apparently fine with Attila the Hun and Ghenghis Khan.

      That Guy They used Stalin and other Communist Leaders most of the time Russia has been in Civ, its fucking annoying to see it represented by an ultimately failed ~70 year regime over and over again when its had centuries worth of great leaders.
      You realize you DO get Communism when you unlock ideologies right? That is literally what the Order Ideology was--they even used a USSR military parade as a backdrop in the expansion's intro. You literally have what you want.
