Castlevania III is my favourite of the trilogy for NES. My friend and I spent the whole evening playing this game on my 11th birthday. The game is insanely hard though. That clock tower level was definitely frustrating! I recommend you guys try it on your own because it’s really a great game!

There's at least one romhack that patches the knockback in Castlevania out there! A quick google search brought up one that changes the knockback to vertical, like a little jump up, and I'm sure there are more out there too.
