Im currently reading the LSB, which is basically an updated nasb. My first read through of the bible was the NIV...the 1984 version, not the current. I really enjoyed the HCSB and the NKJV. I like the esv as well. I have a lot of translations, but some have too small of a font. I need to update those, but it's hard finding the hcsb in large print

Just catching up with this vid. Great work! And FYI Craig Groeschel (YouVersion creator) has moved more toward “Progressive Christianity”. Just look at the people chosen to do the daily Bible reading videos, like Christine Caine, who is hard Progressive. I’m thinking of finding an alternative app.

Thank you for these informative video 😊
I didn't care for the translation it gave .
I personal do not like this book .
I can throw this book in the trash and not feel guilty about it.
Doesn't even come close to being true .
I will stick with (and never throw away ) are:
    New King James
    New American Standard
    New International Version
    Revised Standard Version
    And a couple of others
The one Bible I have on hand for verifying all Bibles is
The King James Bible , this is a hard book for me to read , so I prefer the other's,at the same time I want accuracy.😊

@@heisrisen9855 The NLT is a translation, not a paraphrase. It was created by over 100 top notch scholars. Some very sound pastors such as Chuck Swindoll and Greg Laurie use it as their main translation. You may be thinking of it's progenitor, The Living Bible, which was a paraphrase.

All these "books" used to be scrolls in jars and they would pick them out and read them, there was no cannon and they read whatever scrolls were there. Only when the codex was invented did they need a cannon. The bible is an anthology of books not just one book It is separated by authorship and by time. Revelation does not say anything about adding to or taking away form the whole _Bible_ it just addresses itself as a book. Also it is possible that that particular passage is a redaction or edit by a well meaning person after the fact.

Hi Wendy. I've seen the Passion Bible debate. Noticed that I did not say Passion Translation. It's because it's a paraphrase Bible. Dizzy is right to say that. I've also read the Message. For me, I don't bother either one. Of the paraphrase, I'd be more worried about the Mirror before worrying about the Passion. I've been hearing bad stuff about it.
For study purposes, I prefer the NASB '95. However, I'm finding that my viewers prefer the NLT because it is more understandable to young believers. Why is that? It's because young believers are intimidated by the word for word translations or develop a bad taste in their mouth. Looking at you, KJV!
What can be done about the Passion? For one, it should never be given to new or young believers or Christians with little to no understanding about translations. Once in a great while, I will poke my head in the Passion; however, it is only to take a peek. It's not suitable for study or Bible teaching on RUclips or elsewhere.

First, I personally don't care for paraphrases, but there's a lot of criticism here for the Message. The passion "translation" is as you said, heretical. But Eugene Petersen, the author of the Message, was a Godly man. He never claimed the Message was a translation. He made it perfectly clear from the beginning that he was creating a paraphrase and that the Message was not the actual Word of God. He was very sound theologically. The Message does not deserve to be discussed in the same perspective as the passion "translation," which doesn't have as much value as toilet paper.

    • @bibleandthegeek

Thank you for your thoughts on The Message. I wasn't trying to say it was equal to TPT so I apologize for any confusion.

    • @ChristianityExplained

I don't know about heretical, but you do have the right idea @markyearty6717. Eugene Peterson had the right idea to call it a "paraphrase" and left it as that. It most certainly is one and read like a series of mini sermons. As for Brian Simmon, he should of don the same in the spirit of humility. That's the one I did not agree with him doing.

The passion and the message are definitely not translations. The same with NWT. None of those are worth spending money on. I tried a bunch of modern translations after many years of not reading the bible, and most of them felt very subpar to the KJV and NKJV. But I did like the ESV and the NASB95 a bit. I dont trust many translations since learning how much they are being changed with each revision. I like the current ESV for the most part, but with a new revision imminent, who knows what it will end up like. I have to stay with the KJV and NKJV since there won't be any revisions done of those.
