The sailing vessel Captain and his Admiral on the dock working the dock lines made launching this sailboat look easy. Everything is easy when we know what we are doing, and most sailboat skippers have far more knowledge and skill than most powerboat skippers have. 6,000 pound boat and just a 9 HP engine. Don't need much horsepower, when you have skill.
Alfred,,, Been enjoying your channel, boat docking is always fun. When I used to work at a marina 40 years ago, on Sunday we would garb a bucket of chicken and a 6 pack and watch the local boat ramp in Illinois. Yep wait for it. Yep then we would see then on Monday morning to be fixed. Keep up the great work. And just bought a tee shirt. Thanks Joe
C'mon Alfred, once a DOLPHAN always a DOLPHAN. 1972 I was 12, went to every home game. Our neighbor John Carruth, owned Carruth Roofing took me. 50 yard line about halfway up, lower section. What a crazy group of people. It was awesome!!! I was at the airport when they returned from the Super Bowl win. What a night. Alfred, you gotta believe brother, you gotta believe!!!
Those infinity's are AWD - plenty of power as well. He is steering with the boats rudder not the outboard because that is how you "sail" a sail boat! When he is under wind power that is the position where the boat is designed to be sailed from and steered from.
One lesson I've learned from this channel. If you want to go out with lots of friends, buy a small boat. Those guys seem to have lots of friends. Those big fancy boat owners seem lonely. Or smart.
The small boats don't hurt the bank account at the Fuel stop, like the large boats do, if you can get the friends to realize that they are actually supposed to chip in for fuel. Or bring massive amounts of beer or bait!
Hey Alfred I watch your show whenever I get a chance, love all the big boats with all the horse power, not much of that up here at Alberta lakes. Going to get down there some day and visit with you, Keep up the good work Wes Markowsky Vegreville Alberta Canada

Alfred! We love your channel and watch it all the time. Can't believe I just saw my old sailboat and the new owner of it in miami! I literally used to own that boat please keep track of him he's a good guy learning how to use the boat! Check out the Virginia plates he drove pretty far to get on your channel
Nah... most trailer sailors operate the same way. My Catalina 22 had a 9 hp Tohatsu OB on it. You just set the motor straight ahead and steer with the tiller. After a couple of times, it's sort of second nature. Thanks for these great videos!
I think the only sailboat I've ever seen with an outboard connected to the helm was a Macgregor 26. They could handle up to 50 hp. It was simply tilted up when it was time to go sailing. With the water ballast drained, and the motor tilted down you could actually ski behind her. I almost bought one a couple years back. With a walk-through transom, and a really easy mast raising system many people used them to sail during the day, and then camp in them on land at night.
LOL center hull of Sail Boat is called a 'Keel" Now some small sail boats like this one, very possible the keel can be lifted up into boat. Or Keel pushes up automatically. And once inside boat he can lock in keel.
Alfred I'm from st.louis Missouri, and outside of my friends and people I grew up around you are the only other person I have ever heard talk about the Spuds MacKenzie dog. Keep up the good work my man we watch your show all the time and will be boating to black point from Hampton Virginia

Yeah that car in the beginning with the sailboat, my soon to be ex wife has one and yes they are all wheel drive. But most of the SUV’s that size are front wheel drive or all wheel drive. And that formula right after that sailboat is a badass boat as well. Awesome awesome video again brother!! Keep up the badass work big man!!!
That sailboat is not that heavy. He’ll be okay. Get a boat! You can get a 22 foot Catalina for nada and have a great time! We have some manatee up here in the Elizabeth River and the Chesapeake Bay! 🤗
I ALWAYS chock my front left tire. And I have an AT tranny, 4wd with a good working E-brake. 07:28 Alfred... how long have you been around boats? Your commentary continues to amaze me. I'll leave it at that....
Love the show Alfred. But, for the record the "fin" protruding from the bottom is not a rudder, but rather a keel, specifically this type is a shoal keel. Normally there is also a center board that extends from this keel, which is dropped into place after the boat is in deep water. It's released from inside the cabin. Typically the keel is where all the ballast is (lead weight). This guy should really have a tongue extention on the trailer to be used whenever he's launching or recovering the boat. Here up north that's pretty standard, especially for any boat with a protruding keel. As for the outboard, it's normal for a sailboat to not have remote steering on it. Whether a sailboat has an inboard or outboard steering is done via the rudder. In this case he's got a tiller connected to his rudder. Other boats might have a helm (steering wheel) connected to the rudder. In either case the motor (inboard or outboard) points forward to provide propulsion. I'll bet that SUV has all wheel drive. The only slip up I saw was he should have had the aft rope fastened and in his wife's hand before backing in. But that's a minor issue. Cheers.
To be fair, he didn't mention where it was, so he _could_ have been referring to the rudder on purpose, but like you, I suspect he was talking about the keel and called it a rudder by mistake. He's not used to seeing sailboats at the boat launch.

Sailboat captains and crew don’t make half the mistakes as motorboat types. It’s because the skill entry bar is set just a tad higher to sail a vessel that turn on the motor.
